Gotta say growing up to Petra influenced the type of music i listen to know... This song always helped me when i got teased when i was younger... Thanks for sharing
Oh Father help me. In this world of cynicism and wickedness, it is so easy to allow my heart to grow cold and hard. Help me to keep that wonder and awe that I had for You when my eyes were first opened. Help my love for others not be determined by what they do. Help my faith to stand, to believe you when all the world says it's impossible. Pour the oil of Your Spirit on my heart that it stays tender and pure. Thank you for this song of inspiration. I love You
My older brother was a christian and he loved petra's music. He passed away of cancer in 2004. We played his favorite songs at his funeral just like he would have wanted. I am thankful that he is with the Lord and is no longer in any pain.
I haven`t listened much to Petra the last 15 or so years, but woke up early today singing this song. As I never liked the song when I was a kid/teenager (I just liked the up-beat songs), I knew it couldn`t be just me but that the Lord was speaking to me. I must confess I have done the opposite of this song, and I believe the Lord both gave me a warning and an invitation to repent and come back. God help me to keep my heart broken, thankful, meek and pure!
I find myself in a struggle, when I hear this song. Or any other Petra song. I believe in Jesus. It's tough being a Christian. How do we keep Christ in our life EVERYDAY..? I struggle with this more than anything.
@Skylez1 It is a struggle because your "spirit is willing, but your flesh is weak".This is normal. You love God,and you believe, but you still have that part of you that wants to do what you feel like doing.Keep your strength up by praying, praising, reading your Bible, and surrounding yourself with strong Believers. When you mess up,ask forgiveness and try again.Don't give up.
@Skylez1 brother and or sister in christ, we are all imperfect beings created by God, so of coarse your going to fall as long as your on this earth, but keep jesus as close as you can and you will resist the flesh, hope that helps, God bless!!!
@Skylez1 It's a struggle. My mom passed away on the 30th of this month last year and I was just a new christian of about 4 months. I was an alcoholic and when she passed it escalated and wanted to commit suicide. I wasn't sober for months!!!! I can't count 1 day!!! In May of this year I thought I died, ended up with a week long hangover. I told myself there's got to be a better way and I haven't had a drink since then. Scripture reading and prayer everyday has really helped me.
@Skylez1 Might be too late, but here's a(almost)direct quote from Greg X Volz:"You're never disqualified for not making it,you're only disqualified when you quit.Don't quit."He said that before singing "More Power To Ya at the TBN concert last November, exactly 366 days ago:)still fresh on my mind.Remember to 'Stand Up' *wink wink* and always remember to 'get on your knees and fight like a man' because 'the enemy surrounds the perimeter, searching for an op'ning' so 'stand with emphasis'
@Skylez1 Continued: and don't forget that 'the battle belongs to the Lord'. Have 'no doubt it'll all work out, with faith it will all work together for good'. Hope you caught all that. And most importantly, remember that 'God Gave Rock and Roll to You!' God bless you!
Bob Hartman wrote this song for John Schlitt because he was inspired by John's deep love for the Lord. It serves as a lasting image of inspiration to those who mature in Christ yet still wish to maintain the innocence of a childlike heart.
I first herd this song when i was 10 years old. I love petra. I loved them when they sang with the Other Christian singer Carman on the song Its Our turn Now.
When our 3 yr old daughter Amy died after a 3 day illness from an undiagnosed brain tumour, this was one of the songs played at her funeral.
"May it always stay so childlike
May it never grow too old..."
Not a dry eye in the house, I assure you!
Petra was a very influential group in our church at that time. We were stationed in Keflavik, Iceland, on top of the world, and even there this amazing group was melting hearts.
Oh darling... I have a 3 year old grandson & can't even imagine your pain... God bless you & yours - I found & was playing this for myself - your comment gives it unbelievable depth...
I have this cassette and listened to it last night. I remember when I heard this song on the radio years ago. It still resonates with me as solid truth. Thank you for posting. :)
The World is so hard upon us that it makes us unforgiving to all around us, it is possible to be loving in a world of hate but it takes the strength of GOD Don;t give in to the World
