  • Hey man, thanks for this vid, I'm about to jump into the art of flameworking (X-mas hehe) and I'll be rockin' a Natty 8M. How is this torch in terms of longevity? A lot of people are tellin' me this is an amazing beginner-to-intermediate torch.

  • All I can say is it is a work horse. Should last you quite a while.

  • Hi Joe,

I've just finished installing my brand new 8M+8R that i got on the mail today!

the guys at National should pay you a nice commission ;-)

I'll be using the SM-21 and a custom made silent tip that is sold here by a local glassblower.

(I've been using this tip for 2 years now on my National 6B. its the most silent i've ever seen or used.)

i'm thankfull for the video you made,

you made everything easier and quicker for me.

may i ask what pressure you run your gas and oxygen?

  • I run 6# on both using the sm-21 without a doubt. Just depends on how much heat is neaded.. Sometimes a little more .

Glad you are enjoying the art of lampworking.

  • yes, i enjoy it very much, and you can take credit for more than half of the fun i'm having :-))

    as for the pressure-

i have marks for PSI and Bar on my regulators dials.

so "6#" will be too low or too high, depending which one i use.

what kind of units are you using?

  • This guy's high as a kite. Got meth?

  • @rcd41579 he doesnt even really look high. and he really doesnt look like a meth addict.

  • What is the maximum size of boro tube that the SM-7 and the SM-21 tips can handle? Thanks and keep the videos coming! I tried to PM you but YouTube said I couldn't because of some setting you have enabled.

  • 25 mm on the #7 & 32mm w/#21

I've never went any larger tube with this torch.

  • Thanks for the speedy response! Much appreciated!! It seems that you have a lot of experience in this field. Is there any one (or more) suppliers that you recommend buying supplies from? I am wanting to get into lampworking and I have only come across a few suppliers (Winship, which seems to be the cheapest when it comes to glass, and Wale, kind of pricey). I live in the Dayton, Ohio area. Do you know of any close to that area? Thanks.

  • These are polyurethane paints.

  • Your videos are always a wealth of knowledge. My compliments. thank you for sharing.

  • what kind of paint do you use in your airbrush for glass painting?

  • wow, every 8m with top rider I have ever been around, has had the slide bar on wrong! oh well, still get to learn something everyday! thanks for the vid, I can not wait to see the young man in action with his new torch! thanks Joe, the community benefits every time you post a video!

  • Yeah you can leave them on.

  • Thnx joe I appreciate it. And that's something i forgot to show in the package that I recieved was my flashback arrestors :D. It's okay to use them on the hoses at all times right? Not just with premix?
