@jonathanmlang Slimline instant starts do that where they swirl and flash because there is little or no filament left just the supports. They strike with high voltage not by heating the filaments so even if the filaments are broken they work until there's not enough left to support current flow.
Finally a use for an instant start electronic ballast. I do like instant start magnetic ballasts (for F96T12 slimline lamps) Killing lamps that are already dead. I would never subject a working lamp to one of these murderers, except for Alto tubes. They suck anyway. I went in the store and saw plenty of Altos that had run out of mercury and were glowing dim pink.
yeah those Alto bulbs suck it seems that's about all they carry at the store I had to buy a whole case of them because I had to replace about 30 tubes for a meeting.
it's about time. Finally somebody showed this... but it's alot better when it's a rapid start burning out. There needs to be more videos of this... otherwise, great video!

I assume the starters are just in there because you reused the lampholders that have the starter sockets with them? Obviously an IS ballast in there!

You are looking at fluorescent lamps which their filaments are completely vaporised and now its vaporising the filament supports.
