  • genius - only one thing wrong - Star Trek - William Shatner all the way, after all, he was also TJ Hooker

  • Never mind asking Hannan to move to the States, I want him to move (permanently) to the UK! As a MEP, he does a great job holding the ugly, intrusive EU Superstate to account but he does little in the way of pulling the UK out, something he could only do as a MP at Westminster! Come on Dan Han!

  • "Americans so impressed with accent and vocabulary that they simply accept whatever comes out of his mouth..." are you talking about obama?

  • We don't have anyone in the U.S., on either side of the aisle, who can even come close Hannan in intellect or oratory skills. Not even close.

  • So sadly true! :(

    He's an amazing man!

    He GETS IT!

  • The New Doctor who? The leftist and progressive overtones and subtext of that show is nauseating.

  • Hannan, as much as I like you for other points you make a stand on, I can't help but dislike you for this talk about the environment. If, as you say, you don't know that much about the subject - then leave it well alone! Surely anyone with even the most limited understanding of global warming recognises the potential for far greater changes than a shift of a few degrees - extinctions, decreasing land mass, land left unsuitable for farming, just to barely scratch the surface...

  • When I'm old enough to vote.

    Conservatives have got mine.

  • oi wanker

  • who thumbed my comment down and for what?

  • Lictor313, if you're referring to your previous comment, then presumably for chatting shit about the UK. But perhaps you were also down rated merely for existing as one of the lowest life forms found on the internet, an angry internet man on youtube who communicates through sweeping statements from a lofty (albeit non-existent) high horse.

  • perhaps you could actually point out specifically which comments where "sweeping" and "from a high horse" and hence validate your use of ad hominems (and mistaken assumptions and generalizations).

Try being specific, instead of merely showing everyone your mucus.

  • Categorising the entire UK as a 'liberal cesspit' is fairly sweeping, it also has a rather unpleasant air of superiority and smugness about it.

  • okay, so that's all you have? an impression of "unpleasant superiority"?

I come from canada, which is in similar if not worse shape then the UK.

That the UK is terminally liberal, a heavily PC regimented left wing cesspit, is a statement of fact... not an expression of "smugness"

  • I don't think I'd say that the UK is a 'heavily politically correct regimented' country, although bizarre cases of political correctness do occur on a minute scale in isolated incidents, I can't think of any real issues where political correctness has made a noticeable change to my life, it's just hyped up by the xenophobic newspapers.

What policies would you rather a UK party pursued?

  • Really? you haven't noticed the 680 mosques? The incredible double standards in minority and non-minority rights and freedoms and treatment?

And what in the world are you talking about? xenophobic newspapers? Have you read the guardian? the sun? These smearpapers never miss an opportunity to scorn "white" intolerence to the Islamization of europe and how wounderful it would be if Britain was not majority british!

  • I would have the UK pursue a policy of sovereignty and economic independence vis-a-vis the rest of the world. I would have them drop the log rolling and ruinous scheme of multiculturalism and the "diversity is our strength" mantra and have it replaced by a virile, sane and proper national identity based on western values.

  • Britain's past imperialism was mostly damaging other countries for personal gain, if you really support that then we'll have to agree to disagree. But I can't even understand what you say about multiculturalism, as if it is some major UK ideology? There's really not that much of it. 92% of the UK population is white, the next highest percentage (4% asians) have mostly entirely adopted the British way of life. Not sure how it affects the UK's status as a 'cynosure of the western world' anyway.

  • First off, if you are "not sure" of how a policy of multiculturalism (which teaches the "cultural relativistic" hogwash to the effect that western civilization is nothing but an oppressive idea and is at best "equal to all other cultures") then you're simply being wilfully obtuse, and there's no point in discussing this matter further.

multiculturalism is used as a counter to the traditional culture of the west which so many of those to the left consider to be loathsome.

  • And how assimilated are these immigrants?

Remember when the Mayor of London, "Red" Ken Livingstone back in the day, to a celebration of the Hindu Diwali festival in Trafalgar Square, but cancelled the St George's Day Parade banned New Year's Day celebrations in Trafalgar Square?

Are we really creating a culture of assimilation? or are THEY ADAPTING TO THE WHIMS OF THEIR IMMIGRANTS?

Even if there is only 4-8% of them... Again no one but a madman could claim that assimilation is the aim.

  • You're utterly deluded. Get to know some people from different ethnicities.

  • Typical standard liberal response...

I was an exchange student in Venezuela for a year and on top of very stable friendships I made there, count a very multicolored hue of friends.

You're simply putting the onus back onto me personally because you know you can't argue my point.

  • yeah man, watch out - i'll liberal you up! I'm out to make sure the immigrants take your job because i'm ADAPTING TO THEIR WHIMS!

  • you're still willfully ignoring the points raised and keeping well away of my arguments.

Okay, have it your way: lets pretend that immigrants have "entirely adopted the British way of life" as you insanely say by having mosques built (how British!), speaking English a second and sometimes third language, having no specific national identity, having anti freedom, anti-equality, pro public regimentation laws (such as affirmative action, affirmative action, reverse discrimination and the like)

  • What's wrong with letting them build mosques? I think the christian church is ridiculous as I think islam is ridiculous, but if it makes them happy and doesn't harm me then they can build away. I've never experienced any affirmative action or reverse discrimination in the slightest, in fact the only experience I've had of it is people claiming that it exists as an excuse for the own lack of employability

  • what's wrong with having large hordes of people utterly unlike ourselves (and by our standards hopelessly incompatible) import the most nefarious and nauseating aspects of their culture, such as female genital mutilation, their frightful style of dress, their views on women, their disagreeable mores, their completely intolerant and bloodcrazed religion you ask?

seriously? you don't see the occupational hazard there? even as many of them wave placards with "ISLAM WILL DOMINATE THE WORLD" on them

  • oh and how nice again that you revert to the unverifiable "personal experience" fallacy... hearsay and ad hominems? is that all you're capable of resorting to?

well for what it's worth I know of many individuals who have been harmed by Affirmative Action (chiefly company leaders and the like) ... how's that for a counter refutation of your drivel.

  • Lictor313 -- I've spent some of the best years of my life with people originally from another country. More specifically Pakistan & "Palestine", but even they would agree with your assessment on assimilation. In fact they are more anti-immigration than myself because they see how damaging uncontrolled immigration is to themselves. The mistake you make here is to think that it's these people who are making such changes in British society because it's not, it's the do-gooder socialists.

    cont.

  • ...and of course the uneducated of the immigrants. Unfortunately our government seems incapable of seeing the difference between someone who is of worth to the country and someone who is not. I feel for immigrants fleeing oppression I really do, but it is almost always this uneducated group who are quite often religous fantatics that refuse to learn the language.

Ironically despite me knowing quite a few Muslims, none of them actively follow it or spend time in Mosques.

  • yes you're right, its s system of symbiosis almost of our leftist political class and unassimilable third worlders with chips on their shoulders.

  • Well don't get me wrong I think you have to go a long way to find an honest politician, whether that be a Tory, Labour or Lib-Dem. I would say that the government will do anything to hold onto votes instead of doing the right thing regardless of what supposed ideologies they proclaim to represent.

  • they didn't damage other countries. name one country that britain damaged.

  • no they didn't.

    so there.

  • I would reverse the process that, in less than a century, reduced the British, a great nation and rulers of an empire on which the sun never set, to a herd of frightened sheep, huddled together on a little island on which the sun will soon set for the last time.

Britain was once the cynosure of the western world, today it is an enemy of reason and the very foundations of western civilizations. Something should be done to reverse this appalling situation.

  • you can scarcely put cigarette paper between the major parties of the UK, and so many of them are indistinguishably liberal, a difference in degree not kind... so I think that my generalization is quite accurate...

  • its astonishing that that man came out of the liberal cesspit that is the UK... he must be some sort of miracle... even an atheist like me has a hard time understanding this fortunate phenomenon...

  • LOL It's true though. And currently he's being blasted by the British media, politicians and far-left for DARING to criticise our National Health Service.

Thank goodness you guys have the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Freedom of speech doesn't apply to my country apparently, which is why Britain has gone from having a vast empire that spanned the globe to mediocre slave of the European Union in less than a century!

  • Oh don't worry, We will be there soon.

Obama and the Liberals are finding new and creative ways to bypass those silly things like "The Constitution" or "Freedom of Speech."

Do a Google about the "White House snitch program" or "health care snitch program." In a fascist attempt to pass the Health Care bill, the Democrats have been running ads asking citizens to "snitch on their neighbor" by sending in e-mails about people spreading rumors (the truth) about government run health care.

  • As in the US the UK is split down the middle, there are millions of conservative minded people. However our liberal media and tratorous parliament of false conservatives distort this reality .

  • you might add most of the western world with that...

we really need to awaken as conservatives before our doom overtakes us...

  • It's such a bummer he can't run for president over here. :(

  • @merrimac291 It didn't stop the guy we have now.

  • When conservatives actually advocate for the free market, they will be anarcho-capitalists.

  • More like libertarians- we're not far off from anarchists, but the best libertarians do recognise that there is a legitimate role for government in society, whereas anarchists do not.

  • A free market and government are antithetical. There is no morally justifiable role for government in society.

  • What a pleasure and a privilege it was to listen to this! You're most welcome back to the United States anytime you please, Mr. Hannan!

  • I live in the Denver area. I've attended Independence Institute events, and I've 5 starred several Dan Hannan's videos. How did I miss this!!??

  • Will you please move to the states and run for government here? PLEASE! We need more people who think like you and can so eloquently state their point.

  • If Global means the world, how does passing a cap and trade bill we cant afford stop china from polluting? Taxes us more doesn't do anything globally. India and China will keep polluting.

  • Dan has libertarian values.

  • the suns magnetic field determines how many cosmic rays hit the atmosphere - cosmic rays form clouds, some danish physicist proved it in his basement, and there is now an experiment running at cern.... i think everyone knows that the "greenhouse effect" is related to the levels of radiation reflected away from our atmosphere balanced against that radiated back to the surface, so C02 is negligible! also this man is a hero, makes u really realise how idiotic the people in charge actually are!!

  • His point on global warming is excellent; we will adapt, we can adapt. Polar bears may or may not be able to adapt, but when do we ever really see a polar bear out of a human controlled enviroment or on video? Whilst I have no objection to doing simple things such as using energy saving bulbs or putting things in a recyling bin I feel no desire to change my entire way of life.

  • Daniel Hannan is a rock star!

  • I'm sick of all this global warming propaganda and pictures of Polar bears perched precariously on a f**king ice cube.

It's all BS, Yes, climate change is taking place but climate change has taken place for 1000s of years and will always do so,

Global warming is a manufactured ideal to make us pay more taxes and expect us to feel good about it.

It's big business now and it ain't going away,

Cash strapped scientists are willing to go along with it to receive research funding from governments

  • Throughout history there were many times CO2 levels in the atmosphere reached massive amounts. Usually after big volcanoes which pump out tons of CO2 in the air. But the planet always adopts to it and balances itself out. The planet is built to survive. It has managed to sustain life for millions of years and it'll remain to do so.

The rate of photosynthesis proportional to amount of CO2 in the air is one of these balance mechanisms of the planet which we're destroying! Thats the problem!

  • Global Warming is a problem. Yes.

But the problem is not with fossil fuels. Its deforestation.

More CO2 in air means increased photosynthesis = plants grow faster, which balances out the increase in CO2.

BUT, we're cutting down these trees faster than they can grow. This is the main cause of global warming. But its more money can be made by taxing cars and fossil fuels than trying to prevent deforestation, hence no one talks bout it in the media!!

  • Excellent ! :D

  • A elequent mesmerizing speaker, and a GREAT DISTRACTION to the transfer of wealth going on RIGHT NOW in the States. Perhaps he could get a spot on the tonight show. Opra would surely love to have him in the lineup. I'd bet with his smooth talking ways and wit Ellen D would consider switching sides. I wonder how well he dance's ??

  • I guess you filter out anything that's not fluff. Hannan made a series of superb and eloquent statements on the principles of individual liberty, responsibility, and the dangers and failures of centralized, bureaucratized state control. No, I don't think Oprah would dare give him a platform; he is so much more knowledgeable and effective as a speaker than the fuzzy-thinking statists she supports.

  • He shows the value of a liberal arts education, if conducted rigorously without easy A's for pap. A great former CEO of Coca-Cola only had a degree in philosophy, not an MBA.

  • Daniel: Welcome to America. I hope you are enjoying your time here. You are more American than Americans :)

  • Dan Hannan is top notch.

  • Great speech, one thing I admire about you is how you quote historical figures. It shows that you are both well read and humble, and adds much to your arguments.

  • New Doctor Who - right answer!

    Great series of videos.

    Dr. S.

  • Great vid, I hope one day Dan is our PM.

Just one thing though Daniel, about global warming (you probably realised this afterwards, but in case you didn't). It's not the change in temperatures that is the problem, it's the melting of the polar ice and potential submergence of coastal cities and settlements.

  • That was a lot of fun to watch... I'd like to be at the next one!

  • amazing!

I wish we had an American version of Daniel Hannan.

  • You have. . .

    Ron Paul

  • Daniel Hannan is Ron Paul without the crazy.

  • Hey, you Americans you have Ron Paul? Isn't he also a Daniel Hannan? What do you want more! Ron 'Texas Ranger' Paul!!!

  • The BBC's impartiality is shocking. Any opportunity to mention global warming is the obvious one. But try mentioning anything to do with smoking and see it get censored immediately. But what to do about it - it's ingrained into the culture of the organisation.

Great series of videos, though. I'm off to buy "The Plan" now!

  • best answer for global warming by a politician! ive always thought that, we can adapt for cheaper than cap and trade. he uses too many big words to be american lol we need articulate conservatives here!!

  • "...we can adapt for cheaper than cap and trade...." yes, that was great

  • good stuff im a big fan of yours

  • I wish Mr Hannan would apply for United States Citizenship.Conservatives here in America do not have articulate leaders.

  • This is true but being articulate is one good thing and speaking what is reality is even better. He is one of the best speakers I've been able to understand and follow. God do we need help in the US. Were being taken to the cleaners & controlled to the hilt. Next thing they will tell us is that were all grounded. Take your pill stand in the corner and dont move till we tell u 2.

  • Brilliant

  • Global Warming™ is a Religion.

  • Yes a heathen one

  • Absolutely brilliant! Daniel Hannan is immense.

  • Daniel Hannan should run for the leader of the Conservative Party.

  • I don't think he'd ever be the leader. His views are quite different from others in the conservative party.

  • Yeah. DAMN LIBERALS!
