She told me once that Christina was due to appear in a play but it was canceled because of a snowstorm. She said Christina just went on and on about how mad Joan would be. I think a disclaimer needs to be thrown out there...listen to any documentary, read any book and you will see though Joan may not have been mother of the year, Christina was quite the little brat, who gave her mother her share of hard times. However, I read the book when it was first published and at the time I remember thinking Christina's story was very believable. I'm glad that Cathy has different memories from what Christina Crawford does.
Here's what I think: Joan had very unstable emotions which lead to her alcoholism and that ultimately lead to her abuse to her kids. She was obsessive compulsive, too, which probably lead her to her tantrems about the smallest things and she took her anger out on her kids for the most part. I think that Joan was probably a great lady, but she just had her issues like we all do sometimes. Unfortunately, she did make bad decisions with her kids and that's how the world has to know her now.

I was abused by this person yet her real child ws not treated the same..i worked really hard cleaning up the house by hand including wiping floors and everything. The fact that Cathy agreed to be interviewed when she obviously doesn't like public speaking means that she feels outraged about "Mommie Dearest", and is therefore likely telling the truth!

i think there is probably some truth in mommie dearest but i think christina has probably over sensationalized a lot of it in order for the book to be successful. back then also it was very common for adults to be a lot stricter with children, most older people have stories of their parents hitting them (not that i am saying it's ok, its just the way it was.) it was a cultural norm for a parent to hit a child if they were misbehaving. she's definatley made a career (successful or not) out it all

She told me once that Christina was due to appear in a play but it was canceled because of a snowstorm. She said Christina just went on and on about how mad Joan would be. She tried to console her saying it's not her fault that a snowstorm had the show canceled, but all Christina could babbled was: "You don't understand, she would be so mad!"

@Junkboy666 : I agree with this take on the situation. I can't say Joan didn't do what Christina claimed, but times were very different then. I also get the impression that Christina was a handful. NOT to say that is excusable, just that it may have made Tina's experience much different than that of the twins. Lord knows that plenty of Joan's peers have confirmed that she wasn't a highly likable woman. Not hateful, just not likeable.
What I can say is that Tina needs to move on with her life.

I think a disclaimer needs to be thrown out there...listen to any documentary, read any book and you will see though Joan may not have been mother of the year, Christina was quite the little brat, who gave her mother her share of hard times. Joan left her out of the will because a year before Joans death she knew about Mommie Dearest. Joan came from a horrible backround, and did so much to make herself better, Joan was an amazing woman and that should be known!!!!!

JC will always be difficult to evaluate as a person. I do think if Christina wanted to be fair she should have written the book while Joan was alive to give JC a fair chance in response. Here's what I think: Joan had very unstable emotions which lead to her alcoholism and that ultimately lead to her abuse to her kids. She was obsessive compulsive, too, which probably lead her to her tantrems about the smallest things and she took her anger out on her kids for the most part. I think that Joan was probably a great lady, but she just had her issues like we all do sometimes. Unfortunately, she did make bad decisions with her kids and that's how the world has to know her now.

Back then being a STAR meant something. Now days being a STAR can be reality how contestants or people like the woman who had all those babies all at once. "DWTS" should be renamed to "Dancing with people you might recognize". Some how it doesn't have the same ring to it.

@settle4more yeah but back in Joan's day they didn't have the same pay scale that they do nowadays. Under the studio system they paid by the week starting out. Sometimes they would only get maybe 5 grand for a film, which in those days was quite alot. Plus she had money from being on the Pepsi board of directors, which she only retired from a few years before her death

Clearly Chriistima was and is still an ungrateful b_itch who was and still jealous of her deceased mother fame. Give me a break! She came from an orphanage. Ask yourself who this childs life been if sweet loving Joan Crawford not adopted her and gave her the life she had as a movie stars daughter. P.S. -- Joan was NOT a lesbian. She may have experimented here and there, but she was definitely a man's woman. Her passion for Clark Gable, Franchot Tone, and many, many other men is very well documented.

I met Casey Lalonde once, at a screening here in L.A. Funny, he said the same thing that his sister said in this clip-- that he had a surprising lot of memories of what a kind grandmother Joan was (having been so young when she died), and that Joan would serve him roast chicken with mayonnaise.
That must have been a memorable combo-- chicken and mayo! Both grandkids remembered it.

Christina cannot be believed. She may have been punished as all of us were when smacking a child was common practice and is still warrented is certain cases, but she was also a spoiled, head strong brat who was jealous of her Mother. No movie stars make great parents, but too many people who knew her and her relationship w/ both Christina and Christopher have clearly stated the book was a cowardly pack of half truths and lies.

I agree. A person's alleged sexual orientation has nothing to do with good or bad parenting skills. Most child abuse cases involve heterosexual parents according to statistics. Maybe the person who made the post didn't mean the way it reads.

I look at the demeanor of Cathy. She looks shell-shocked. I just read the book and the abuse that Christina and Chris suffered is unbelievable. The fact that the twins (Cathy is one) do not support the account of the book says nothing to me. In the first place, they were the only siblings to receive any money from Joan. So they may feel a loyalty due to being the favored children. They may also be in denial. Joan sent all the kids to boarding school!
