In the film she dubed! But i can tell you that singing english is pretty hard for Dutch people. Specially when they need to sing 'Memory'. I'm glad that she sings in this video better! And the only thing she can do is grow!

At the time, from what I understand her accent was think when she sang in English but she looked the part very well (I agree she just has the wide eyes of a kitten) so he decided to just have her voice dubbed in. She was not the only one, the man who played skimble shanks had his voice dubbed in for the song to have a scottish accent and gus and asparagus are usually the same peformer and actor but he divided the role up because Sir John Mills was too old to handle the dancing.

She is uncommonly cute, she looks and acts perfect for the role of Jemima. But my honest opinion after listening to the vid is that she has not a very good singing voice, regardless of the language. They were probably just being kind by attributing the use of Massey to Veerle's accent.

If you look at the ending credits in the video, three of the other named cats also had singers sing for them. And they had hired backup singers and a choir.

Jo and Drew (M+R) only had the giggle, "shh!," and sneeze dubbed...I think Geoffrey's (Skimble's) voice was nice in real life, a little boyish, though, regardless of whether or not they wanted that Scottish accent. Honestly, I think you're probably right about Veerle, and I'm fairly sure ALW wanted a fuller, more "perfect" sound to the entire video cast by adding the choir.

Veerle is an amazing singer. But I kinda prefer Helen Massey's voice a little more. To me Helens voice matches Jemima better. But Veerle brings out Jemimas character more. Its just what I think

What do you mean? No one here intends to insult her, and we all acknowledge her talent in musical theatre and dance. I'm fairly sure that most of us are CATS fans, we know Veerle played Jemima in the DVD. It's a matter of personal opinion.

I do feel that Helen Massey's voice is better suited to Jemima, as I think of her as more "cherubic" than anything else, but I also believe that Veerle's wide-eyed, delicate look is perfect for her role. I have nothing against her portraying Jemima in tours.

@JemimaTheTinyCat Well in Veerle's defence, she's not even showcasing her full potential, because Jemima's character is designed as the ingenue, which means her voice needs to be slender and simplistic to show she's still a kitten. Her performance here is absolutely no indication of her full potential as a singer. You must be able to tell she's holding back... it's easier to notice in the DVD since the audio is better than this clip.

this piece that we are singing is difficult which means we will have about 4 practices to get this piece understood and any other latin piece down but our practices are about two hours long. i can say that english itself whether spoken in england or the u.s. is a difficult language to learn and american english has so many accents like an east texas drawl which i mastered while living in houston. lol

Ehm English is actually a very easy language to learn. Especially for Veerle, because she is Flamish. Dutch (the language spoken in the Flamish part of Belgium) and English are alike in a lot of ways. And most people in Belgium learn English in school.

Taking pics and vids during the show is forbidden in the Netherlands (everywhere in Europe) so this vid is also illegal. But there are some lovely pics and vids of Cats (and Veerle) if you know where to search...

I think Veerle would be very honored when someone would make a real fansite for her, she's still surprised with all the support she gets from all over the world, she told me, but in the Netherlands nobody knows her (except the Cats-fans ofcourse...)
