why do you have the fake karmapa here? Not that it takes anything away from what he said, but he is not the one Tibetans accept, I don't think. Also, people have to really put their masters to a test, however long it takes before deciding to take refuge under him/her. What I really Love about Buddhism is the Equalities that it had that can't find in any other religions. Buddha said that everything can be a Buddha. I mean the point of the whole follow something or someone is because we want to be like, equal to or greater than the person or thing that we followed right?? Just like in reality, everyone can be a master, a PhD, professor ect.. if he or she put their minds into it. I mean in other religions, can we all become a GOD if we follow a GOD wills??

That sort of is the whole point. Christ says that "you are all gods" (quoting moses) So christianity has that (called Theosis). Hinduism is based on the very notion that we are all fragments of God.

What Buddhism does is white-wash the concept, because "God" is simply a reference to ultimate reality. So instead of personifying it and creating more myths and arguments - buddha cleaned up the mess.

@eewwca79 Actually, the Buddha did have a succesor, and though the Buddha advocated reliance on the Dharma as one's guide, he also highly praised many disciples, especially Maha Kasyapa, who he said was equal to himself in a number of attainments. After the passing of the Buddha, Maha Kasyapa came to lead the Sangha in their practice and collation of the teachings, as well as being the first succesor to the Chan/Zen teachings.
