I've heard at least one ex-CR SD70 with a Nathan P5 (yes, I'm aware that the audio doesn't match). I have some vintage PC videos at home with added sound effects, and occasionally an all EMD consist would sound like a GE! That's what this reminded me of. The audio is definitely an old-school GE.
I believe it's a dash 8 because of the way the engine sounds. Dash 9s have a very unique sound to them that was slightly different from the dash 8 series. I've heard many dash 9s and they seem to have a lower harmonic whooping sound than the dash 8 series. This particular locomotive has a faster whooping sound to it. Dash 9s have slower longer whooshes, and the dash 8 have faster shorter whooshes, but its the same whooshes sound the make.
You guys didn't read my info bar. This train does not go with this audio. An EMDSD70 shouldn't have a Nathan P5 horn on it. I know what these locomotives are. I was wondering if some one can identify the locomotive in the audio not the video!
this locomotive in question is not a SD70 so that's a mute point. We still don't know what the actual the locomotive is, but I guarantee you it's a conrail dash 8-40C
I know that the horn on this train is my favorite horn, the Nathan P5NC. The lead loco is an ex-CR SD70 and the 2nd loco is either a Dash 9-40C (C40-9) or a Dash 8-40C (C40-8).
that must be a nathan-p5

Ok, that's what I thought. What kind of engine do you think it is?
valareksic 2 years ago
Hmm, probably could be a Dash 9-40C or a Dash 8-40C. I could be wrong though :/

Dash 9-40C? with a Nathan P5? I thought they had K5LA? I suspect it's a dash 8-40c

A good amount of Dash 9-40Cs have P5s. But there are some with K5LAs too.
