@MetalheadSteven Sins of a Solar Empire was good, yeah, but it had too much focus on economy. Homeworld is pure RTS series. I'd say I enjoyed Homeworld much more. Additionally, Homeworld has great singleplayer campaign.

They are completely different types of RTSs. Homeworld is map-based, smaller scale and tactical type as in you have to manipulate in 3D on the map (having to deal with vertical positions.

Sins on the other hand is a more strategy then Real Time Strat. You have a lot more civilization-like managing and it is hugely different. It is still tactical but not nearly on the same level Homeworld is as you can't control the individual ships in the same way. On the other hand its a much larger scale.

Also Ironclad did get inspiration in designing SOASE from many different RTS's and 4x Turn based games. Homeworld was one of the RTS's that Ironclad was inspired by. So that is another reason the games have a similar look.

Yes, its an RTS.

You have a campaign obviously, which is actually fairly challenging. So i recommend playing Skirmish for a while first. There are two races, Vagyr and Hiigaran. Vagyr favor heavy missile ships. Hiigaran like the powerful beam weapons.

You gather resources (RU's) from nearby asteroids which look like large potatoes.

The gameplay is really fun. The battles are beutiful, almost looking like a movie.

And there are TONS of mods. If you get bored of the original, get mods! ;)

One of the sites i go to regularly for mods is called Moddb

And on the topic of installation. Most mods have their own installer however if they dont you just take the .big files and put them into the Homeworld 2 Data folder. Then you put -mod (Name of mod with .big at end) Include above space.

Except that Sins of a Solar Empire, like almost every RTS around, isn't TRUE 3d.

As in, you can't actually tell units to move up, they only go up if they have to group up somewhere.
