@GreenPanther13 Thats a common fallacy. to anyone with a little common sense, 10 times would seem like way too much, and it turns out it is. Chimps are actually around 2 to 3 times stronger. I dont know about gorillas, but with them being so much larger i would assume it would a lot more.
@dman519 Scientists dont have any common sense? Cause I read it from scientists.... And I ve also read that the gorillas have the strength of 6-7 Olympic weightlifters...
@GreenPanther13 If the average man can bench 100 pounds, you think the average chimp can bench 1000? Sorry, its not true, and I've read more than just one article on this topic. As a fun fact, it turns out that it isn't their muscle fibers that are different, it's their nervous system. It basically allows them to use a greater amount of their muscle. Human nervous systems are more catered towards precise muscular control. This allows us to play the piano, write, thread a needle etc.
@dman519 They didnt mean that they can lift 1000kgs OF COURSE... Its just that their fibres are more solid and strong than ours... Not the nervous system only...
@GreenPanther13 You're right, it isn't just the nervous system only. Its actually a combination of 3 things: the nervous system, longer fibers which give them greater leverage, and more fast twitch fibers. Olympic sprinters, for example, have more fast twitch fibers in their legs than average people.
Aside from that, you said originally that they were 10 times stronger and now you are saying that they are "of course" not. So what's it going to be?
@dman519 Dont rush to feel happy like a child... I never took my words back... But I talked about their STRENGTH, not how many kgs they will lift!!! This is completely stupid even to think about it...
@GreenPanther13 If you really aren't contradicting yourself, then I have no idea what you're talking about because you aren't explaining your position well enough. Is english your second language? because that would explain why you write so poorly.
@dman519 Strength doesnt have to do with how many kgs you can lift... The shape of their body cannot work to help them lift things like humans do but they can certainly hit you and feel like you have been hitten by a truck... There different ways they can prove their strength...
@GreenPanther13 All you just said is that they are strong. I agree that they are strong. A 70kg chimp will be much stronger than a 70kg human. We both know this.
Our argument has been about HOW MUCH stronger they are.
@dman519 I told you I ve read in scientific articles that chimps are 7-10 times stronger than the average human and that gorillas are 6-7 times stronger than olympic weightlifters... How they made the tests and got the results, I dont know...
@GreenPanther13 So how is it that you believe a chimp can be 7 times stronger than a human but couldn't bench press 7 times the amount a human can? Isn't that what being "7 times stronger" means?
@dman519 Because his fucking body shape is not made for bench pressing. I ve told you the same thing 10 times and you still dont get it... Strength can be measured in various ways...
@GreenPanther13 A chimp from an anatomical standpoint, could definitely do a benchpress.
But forget the bench press thing. Whatever method they use is going to be some kind of lifting or pulling. So if the human can lift or pull 100 pounds in some fashion, then the chimp should be able to do the same lift or pull with 700 pounds? You know thats ridiculous. Do a little more research and you'll see the "7-10 times" stronger thing is a gross exaggeration and a myth.
@dman519 Not necessarily so. They conducted a test in a zoo in the Bronx back in the 1920s in which they had chimps pull on a spring dynamometer. The chimpanzees could pull, with one hand, poundages from 700-1100 pounds. Similarly, college football players managed to pull around 250 pounds. Goes to show that chimps are indeed
enormously stronger than well trained male human beings. Orang-Utans were already
observed ripping truck tires apart with their bare hands. Obviously one can't hope to
@dman519 put a precise number on how much stronger chimps are compared to humans,
but the difference is indeed gigantic. Tests with hydraulic machinery on 3" thick bamboo
poles showed it takes a force from 800kgs (1760lbs) upwards to break them. Gorillas
regularly do that with a flick of the wrist. The general notion that gorillas are 27 times stronger than humans doesn't hold true, but in the area of arm strength, they are stronger than even that.
@dman519 The gorilla is so strong that for ex. he can grab your arm and rip it off with one move... Thats what we mean strength... Not fucking bench press for God's sake...
Dam if they hit the gym they would big huge! they already are big and all they do is walk around but imagine if they fucking lift weights like every day and have an all out protein meals everyday they would be huge Im pretty sure of it
Upper body built EXACTLY like Jeff Monson the grappler - a true beast and strong as hell himself (if you don't believe me just type in Jeff Monson and see for yourselves) this is no insult either, Monson is a tremendous athlete - no surprise about the similarity to human musculature, as they are an immediate ancestor with lots of common DNA. But its rare to see a human with that kind of muscular development. The only difference is strength - same size human about 1/4 as strong as the chimp.
@deadlystylez Umm...I think you mean that they can pull about a ton with one hand, not curl. However, I have seen a big gorilla pull a bicycle tire apart at a zoo - now that's strong - but still not strong enough to curl a ton.
@deadlystylez Curl 200 one handed is a safe bet, provided the chimp in question had been shown proper technique and been exposed to that kind of thing. In that case, I would think the bigger gorillas could do more than that. Maybe even the chimp. These primates are strong as hell that's for sure. I think I remember reading somewhere that an enraged chimp had demonstrated the ability to raise almost 1000lb...its a vague memory but there somewhere. Maybe online? Anyway, strong animals.
@djlivingfire I wholeheartedly agree with what you said. Gorillas would probably have at least 2 or 3 times the strength of chimpanzees given their stature and muscular build. There's an article of a chimpanzee puling a resistance rope at an astounding 1330 Psi. Use Google to find it. It's interesting. I've seen shaved chimpanzees..i want to see shaved gorillas now.
When we see a hairy chimp we say : - Ive heard that they are 7 times stronger than us.. thats bullshit theyre weaker.. - When we see a bold chimp we are like: - Man they really are stronger - ... its in our DNA to underestimate EVERYTHING.. sometimes we pay big time for that!!
With all that fur you usually can't see the muscle definition, and there arms looks smaller. But without the fur you can see how truly powerfully built they are. Long thick muscular arms, short thick neck, short, stocky core and a big broad head.
Man no wonder they are 7-10 times stronger than a human

humans can have something called Turners syndrome. They grow up, but never go through puberty and so no hair on the body, except for the head of course.

@soundguy201 Your facts are missleading. "We" don't work out our muscles, we invent shit to do the job for us and so on. Look at a farmer in some poor country where they do agriculture like in the Dark Ages, for muscles to grow bigger they need to be exercised. Walking to and from your car is not enough. :))
@soundguy201 yeah and the crazy thing is that they can actually use 100% of their muscle capacity and we can only use around 10% we totally got fucked on that deal
I honestly dont know. Humans can suffer from it too, sometimes its temporary and just affects part of the body and sometimes permanent and there's not a hair on the body. maybe chimps are the same and its just genetic but I'm not sure.
thats no chimp thats 2pac back from the grave lol

@soundguy201 Your facts are missleading. "We" don't work out our muscles, we invent shit to do the job for us and so on. Look at a farmer in some poor country where they do agriculture like in the Dark Ages, for muscles to grow bigger they need to be exercised. Walking to and from your car is not enough. :))

@soundguy201 Yeah an adult chimp is 2x times stronger than a normal adult man

@soundguy201 yeah and the crazy thing is that they can actually use 100% of their muscle capacity and we can only use around 10% we totally got fucked on that deal

Does this ever happen in the wild or just from being caged?

I honestly dont know. Humans can suffer from it too, sometimes its temporary and just affects part of the body and sometimes permanent and there's not a hair on the body. maybe chimps are the same and its just genetic but I'm not sure.

There was a bald chimp at St. Louis Zoo named Cinder but she died in early 2009.
