When it was on, this show got me to laugh at their jokes on 9/11 and the war, and as someone who was deeply affected by that stuff it meant a lot. Olbermann's completely right. Arrested Development did more than make us laugh; for many of us, it gave us an escape to what was otherwise a very dark time in America's history.

This show was unique, well written + acted, plots were always clever. But as far as people thinking they're more intelligent than other Americans and everyone else doesn't "get" the humor is pretty myopic. I always thought the jokes were pretty blatant. When you have scenes with the obvious closet-homo Tobias Funke (Fyoon-kay) prancing around in blue body paint or tiny denim cutoffs does that really require some deeper understanding? That it was short-lived let it start strong and finish strong.

It was probably a mixture of marketing and just how people are. Most sitcom's episodes don't maintain anything but the more major events while this show even the most minor happening can become relevant episodes later so it's definitely something that needs to be paid attention to. However, I never heard of the show till a while after it was cancelled and my friend forced me to watch the whole thing, which I only regret having not watched sooner.

Well said! Great video and it's so true about the show standing out from 95% of the crappy comedy on TV. I think an Arrested Development feature film would have cult potential(i.e. The Big Lebowski, Rocky Horror, etc.). I worked for 2 years on one of the other "smartest TV shows ever". @costapasta80 Meh, Fox's marketing department has this loss on their shoulders. In the three seasons that AD was on the air, I rarely saw a promo for it. And the promotions I did see were breif. Not to mention, Fox moved this show around so many times, no one could ever get into a groove of watching it. So many people I know who were fairly loyal Fox watchers, had never heard of this show. And after I made them watch it, and they fell in love, they became angry that they never knew it was on.
