  • I think black metal was once likened to Wagner mixed with hardcore punk. I think that description fits Primordial pretty well

  • BEAUTIFUL <3

  • favoris

  • and the vikings beat the crap out pretty much all of europe...

  • @StaggnGuvnor

Yes, sure they did! They even invaded Australia a few times while they were at it! =))

  • @AlxTheLamb Nah but Newfoundland. But it wasnt really an invasion.

  • @StaggnGuvnor Primordial is celtic.

  • @PennyDreadful1 i know, everyone was saying that the irish celts were amazing, so i said the vikings beat the crap out of everything :L

  • To be 100% original in an area such as Black Metal is amaizing. Primordial is... This band could be nominated to the best band in the world award!

  • the lyrics are amazing, but his musical rythm blows. he just talking. not singing. horrible tun. but the lyrics are great.

  • this band goes nicely with a rum and coke.

  • From 04:32 on the drummer clearly displays the over and mis-use of amphetamines....

  • I have no doubt that Primordial will go down as one of the best metal bands of the last 20 years... so much emotion and power. That is not easy to find in Metal anymore. One of those bands that truly get better with age, long live Primordial

  • @metallifreak77 If emotion and power is what you want, check out Warning and 40 Watt Sun if you haven't already.

  • @jayodoom I totally agree with you.. Both bands are awesome. No one makes music full of power and emotion like Patrick Walker!!

  • Near to death, yet still fighting. Despite the lies, disgrace, dishonour, sorrow and tragedy.

  • @garvan

And 'Twilight of the Gods' is touring around Europe in the Heidenfest festival, along with other great viking bands like Ensiferum and Equilibrium.

  • @AirinDisobedience Thanks man!

  • @garvan

    Thanks wo-man, maybe! LOOL!

    Bye! ;-)

  • fucking awesome!

  • This kicks ass, it sometimes has got the same power of Bathory's songs...

  • @AirinDisobedience Which Bathory songs? Anything that has power anywhere approaching Primordial is definitely worth a look.

  • @garvan

I wasn't referring to any song by Bathory in particular, I meant that the voice of the singer and the general epic mood of the song reminded me of Bathory ;-)

However, I think that every album of the Viking Bathory is worth listening, especially 'Hammerhearth', which is a masterpiece in the genre and the first real example of viking metal. Not to mention that the singer of Primordial Nemtheanga is going to cover Bathory in a tribute to Bathory project called 'Twilight of the Gods'.

  • @AirinDisobedience yeh youre right i can hear that

  • @arkee71

    Thanks! :)

  • "That tune heals nothing" should be "That time heals nothing" in the lyrics.

  • @Rokkross Thanks sir I'm gonna fix that :)

  • Thumbs up from me, great song from my fellow Irish countrymen.

  • Primordial, damn. While they're very good musicians, it's not their strength. Their strength is Passion, and they deliver it in f'kin spades. Once Nemtheanga is at the mic, reason becomes irrelevant. It's all about emotion from then on. Hope they keep going forever, or at least as long as they want to. :)

  • As a child of a cornered, mutilated, forcibly christianized culture I feel Primordial's music on a very personal level. Most of us don't even begin to realize where we came from, who our ancestors were and what they did or believed in. I can't put to words the feeling I get listening to this song. It fills me with a strange mixture of grief and comfort. Much has been lost, but at least someone still remembers that we lost something. Perhaps something can be revived.

  • @Hallanrauta

    what culture is this?

  • @SuperYogSothoth Pre Christian Finnish culture. There are a number of us who try to reconstruct and revive the archaic Finnish religion, of which traces still remain even in the "Christian traditions" practiced in Finland. It's a polytheistic religion drawing heavily from shamanism. Gods are powerful, but still the most important bond humans have is between spirits, ancestors and guardians of one's home and nature.

  • @Hallanrauta

Woah, I was actually reading about this yesterday and all, then this response came out of the blue. Coincidence? I think not :P

  • @Hallanrauta

    That's heavy metal you're feeling.

  • Had this CD on my stereo for almost 5 months, not playing anything else.

  • check Arcane Sun and Waylander

  • what kind of metal is this doom metal? cause thats what it reminds me of.

  • The genre matters not.. Talented and passionate metal.

  • @stalingrenhatten

They're actually a celtic band with black metal influences.

  • @rencrow ahh i see thank you for that insight.

  • other way about

  • In recent yrs a new branch has grown off of black metal, called pagan metal, Primordial is one of the pioneers of this genre. Anything evoking ancient feelings, pagan ideals, and use of traditional naitive music like (the dark song), usually flys under the banner of pagan metal some say "folk" too. Pagan metal is my absolute faveorite genre, but I try not to put too much emphasis on genre names, it becomes destructive after a time.

  • @DyingGodMadeFlesh ahh i see thank you

  • "Your ancestors were not savages..."

Indeed... it is the bible which tells you to practice wasteful sacrifice (mostly Old Test.).

Everyone should watch Terry Jones 'Barbarians' series (it's on YT) for an introduction to the lies that classical history has held about the non-roman pagan tribes of Europe.

Celts built the first roads for wheeled transport, for example, not the romans.

  • @withindarkness Thank you for recommending the series, I shall definitely add it to my playlist.

  • @Valmarith

No problem. Glad you liked it.

Its not the most complete, detailed view, but its definitely a decent introduction, and I like to refer people to it, especially those who simply regurgitate ancient roman propaganda and the later 'scholars' who viewed classical Rome as some kind of pinnacle to aspire to.

Now, many people don't even realize that English is a Germanic language, not Latin-based.

  • the irish people are a nation who always wantet to fight for their freedom and for the truth. i often thought of moving to ireland and to fight with them. I wish, my nation would be so proud as yours, brothers ! greetings from the occupied Germany

  • I am Irish, and so proud to be thus, but I also study German culture, language, and history. It is my favourite. The history of Germany and its ancestors is one that is veritably rich, and it is sad that one man could single-handedly tear out the pride of an entire nation, his own nation, in perpetrating such disloyalty towards life. Sad, but also frightening. I also wish that your nation would be so proud, for I am considering moving there, and making it my nation.

  • (sry for my bad english)

thank you for your words, brother !

It makes me proud that you want to make my nation yours, because here aren´t much like you.

but one thing is needet to be said : you will be dissapointed germany is not what you think it is. well, not today....

although they are telling other things : there is no freedom here ...

  • Bitte, Bruder.

    Wo wohnst du in Deutschland?

Feel free to correct any mistakes, as I am still learning. Thanks.

  • long live ireland !

  • Long live Ireland, may your pagan past be reclaimed!

  • I just got turned on to this band a few days ago. Can't stop listening to it. Must be my green blood. ha ha Great tunes.

  • Absolutly awesome music.

  • A lot of Primordial's lyrics seem to be about Ireland's struggle and its bloody past at the hands of imperial powers(whom I shall not name, but you know who they are. They rhyme with Smengland!!!)

  • Switzerland?

  • I'm sorry mate but I'm Irish and I can honestly tell you our culture is vastly different than America's, our culture is one of the few untouched by foreign cultures and we remain very Irish due to our language, games that are unique to Ireland and Ireland only

  • But don't the vast majority of Irish speak English? The language with official status in more countries than any other language?

Sure, every country has unique things like sports, history and accents that only they have but does that really make them that much different?

  • I hear there are anti-blasphemy laws in Ireland now. Is this true?

  • no, b/s

  • It is not just Ireland. We are all connected, all of Europe. No matter where from, we may have spoken different languages but we all had much the same legends, much the same sense of honor, with much the same culture. And all of our culture was enslaved, our histories stolen from us, our ways twisted into lies as vile as blood libel against the jews. Our religions were made illegal and those who remembered them were burned and hung and drowned, no matter where from. All of Europe, like Ireland.

  • Well that may be true!! but in Ireland, we definitely suffered the most and I would hope you will agree and look at Irish history!! the English(by England I mean the government not the people) looked at us as just a colony to plunder. If you knew a lot about the Irish struggle then I'm sure you would agree with me!! I agree that all of europe suffered at some point but Ireland was still suffering up until the 1990's. We do have a blasphemy law hahaha it's ridiculous, it'll never be enforced!!

  • Indeed Ireland has suffered much injustice. I do not know if it is fair for me to say who has suffered most, but in many ways Ireland still suffers so it is more relevant today.

About the Anti-Blasphemy laws, I can not believe this sort of law is even considered acceptable today. This is part of how Christianity spread across Ireland you know? The native customs and faiths were made illegal, just like in Norway and Sweden, those who continued to follow them were thrown in dungeons or killed.

  • Well Ireland is a very Catholic country and one way we kept our Irish identity from being taken from us was by keeping a strong Catholic faith rather than converting to protestantism, even though the English gave many concessions to protestants. So when Ireland became a republic we brought in a very ambigous blasphemy law that was never enforced, but recently we ammended it, I think one of the reasons we did so was to protect Ireland's neutrality as to appease islam rather than christianity>

  • Catholicism is not the native religion or Ireland, it was forced on Ireland by Rome. The legends tell colorful fanciful stories of good Saint Patrick educating the mindless savages of Ireland with a clover, but Christianity spread by law and cultural conquest. Your ancestors were not savages, they were not mindless brutes who sacrificed virgins before bloody altars like Christian propaganda tells.

  • Buried ruins of beautiful cities are in Ireland, once there were bath houses, and great monuments the most famous of which is Stone Henge.

  • Stone Henge is in Engalnd. I gottamake it down there sometime for the solstace i think.

  • @communist9 Yes I know Stone Henge is in England but there are monuments like it in Ireland, the ancient Irish built many beautiful structures like it, great fortresses on the coasts, great monuments and mounds, the ancient Irish were a sophisticated Iron age people.

  • stongehenge is in england :L

  • @SanctuaryOfDissent try doing less meth

  • Comment removed

  • @SanctuaryOfDissent Thats not good dumb ass.

  • @akacpkiller21 ah, so serious!!!

  • @akacpkiller21 ah, so serious!!!

  • this song is absolutely wonderful!..This band is very good and intelligent. They compar pagan values at the modern world this are the only one in this style to understand this! i'm pagan and Primordial is the only one band which seems to me! Hail Primordial!

  • I know what you mean, it's awesome that they are my favorite band but it makes it even better knowing they are Pagan.

  • Yes. I always find it more comforting to know that bands are not only spiritual, but are rooted in their own cultures. Of course, as Averill would point out (judging be what i read in a metal hammer interview), being pagan does not mean believing in the mythology necessary - who would - it needs to be adapted to the modern world, and we need to recognise what the core values are and how they are different from (and better than) Judeo-Christian ones.

  • shut up.

  • Isn't Burzum pagan too?

  • Yes Burzum is pagan too.

  • @Valmarith Nope.

  • I saw them in Vancouver some weeks ago, I never heard of Primordial before that, and I was absolutely impressed by their performance. Finally ! Primordal!

  • so fucking awesome song and band.

  • The beginning sounds a bit like "Of False Friends" of Trimonium

    But it´s still a great song 5*

  • These guys are coming through Minneapolis at the beginning of May....thinking of checking them out.

  • Yeah, I'm going to that concert tonight. I have a feeling it's going to be kick ass although I'm disappointed Eluveitie had to drop from the tour.

  • definately my favorite song by my favorite band...

  • Why are we discussing religion, its good music not religion class

  • @rockprogmetal Because their music is also about religion dumbass.

  • @thsuanthan Doesnt mean ppl should bitch about their beliefs on a music page. Ppl should get the sand out of their vag and just enjoy the music

  • @rockprogmetal Why are we discussing religion? Because the song is about religion and culture in general maybe? Are you one of these people who think that lyrics don't matter at all, that you could as well replace all lyrics with "f*ck off" repeated all over again because "it's music"?

  • @Hallanrauta Im not saying that and i know that this song is about that. But people keep getting into stupid boneheaded arguments about one religion being better than the other and saying that this and that sucks, rather saying how awsome this music is. And for lyrics...they do matter, so stop being judgmental

  • wow, found this band tonite on pandora.

so far i am extremely impressed.

wish better quality vids on here though....

    damn u youtube!

  • try to add &fmt=18 in adres bar. That should improve sound quality a little bit.

  • it does thank u sir!

  • Nice trick, thanks!

  • incredible affecting song.....

  • Primordial...one of the few

  • I beg to differ... two of the three major religions are Hinduism and Budism, if we judge by the number of followers and their antiquity. I don´t really know which would be the third.

  • Hinduism is an umbrella term. It is an Arabic word meaning non-muslim. Hinduism is composed of a number of different religions.

  • Also, Buddhism is not a religion. It's a philosophy. There's a fundamental difference.

  • MUSIC for my WARRIOR'S HEART:)I love this band!

  • I want to get into the guys for paganfest 2 because i love eluveitie what are good songs to listen to buy primordial

  • i wanted them to get Equilibrium for paganfest 2

    now theres a great band

  • Get the albums To The Nameless Dead and The Gathering Wilderness.

Actually no. Get all of them. You can't go wrong.

As for songs... Heathen Tribes, Autumn's Albaze, and The Coffin Ships.

  • One of the greatest songs i've ever heard some guys cant understand it they only like the "american" style and this is pathetic

  • Hail Primordial! It's time we put faith into our own culture and traditions. Choose Heathenism over foreign Semitic cults!

  • I'm curious what you mean - what Semetic cults? Do you mean the three major religions (Christianity, Judaism, Islam)? Just curious. Your northern culture and traditions are rich indeed. We should all hail our native lands.

  • Yes I'm referring to those. And really any other religion/culture that is foreign to our lands. We have no need for them.

  • Cheers, even though I'm American, none of those religions are native to my country either.

You don't need religion, you have a mind too!

  • Your "own culture and traditions" have disappeared up Christianity's massive, bulbous arse long, long ago, from generations we will never know in ways we will never fully comprehend out of context, never to be taken back.

  • I agree that much is lost to history but some has been preserved as well. We can still embrace what we know instead of following an entirely foreign set of values.

  • Sure, but at this point it's impossible to tell what is one and what is the other when we were never alive to know what was there in pre-christian times, or even what it was like. However much I hate to say it, Christianity was embraced by many pagan people, even though many others didn't. Looking forward, not back to a re-imagined past would be a solution. Culture is not genetic. It is a sign of the times.

  • Thankyou for putting the lyrics also:)

  • Deserved Paganfest 2 Headliners!

  • True

  • Great song!

  • Never fade out!!!!!!

  • I was checking new bands out and came across this. Well, this is not my cup of tea. To all who enjoy this, keep on enjoying this.

  • honest answer... more people should post like this.

  • I think the lyrics make mighty sense. They picture Someone who has lost evrything and descended into total hopelessnes quite well.

  • Yeah skate to this stuff!\\\\

  • hey everybody guess what?

  • what?

  • chicken but!

  • Primodial is the job

always found it strange they're far more popular outside of ireland

  • awesome

  • WTF is with all the hate comments? This is killer!!

  • I think it might be time heals nothing and not tune.

  • BORING this song is amazeing

  • A grim future awaits us. Yet we cannot allow ourselves to falter and submit. No surrender, no retreat.

  • Well spoken.

  • lol. we're related to monkeys. we didn't evolve from them. 95% DNA matches.

  • I'm afraid we did evolve from them.

  • primordial is so unique...

  • Great song and beside of God to the Godless my favourite Primordialsong

  • Black metal with clean vocals. A rare combo. Nice.

  • Heraklit from Efez once said:

"The world has not been made by any god or human. The world was, is and will be."

As an agnostic i agree with that. That quote means the same what "You cannot know, no proofs" etc. means.

  • Why is there so much argument about religion? No one can prove who is right and who is wrong, so why can't we just accept that there are different beliefs and move on? I'm a Wiccan, and I don't go around saying to random people, "My religion is right! Yours is wrong!" That's just not cool.

  • right you are my man!very clear/logical thinking!cheers!

  • thank you, stevenharrismetalgod =) And, I'm a girl. lol

  • I should expect so,girls seem to think clearer than most guys these days-at least the ones I've met/chated with...anyway,take it easy sister!

  • Mantraitor.:P

  • I'd go with the "one Moon, but manifold reflections in the water" approach. And that's why I prefer to call myself a Deist..

  • Is that the same as the "diamond with many facets?"

  • The principle would be the same, I guess.

  • I agree with the last comment here. And I recommend that any person who thinks they're boring in any way watch the video of them playing "Empire Falls" live.

    Thanks,

    -Jenn.

  • fuck off you, greatest band ever

  • Because they don't jump up and down like half the retards in slipknot who don't actually do anything OTHER than jump around:P

  • I'll repeat the question, 123metalboy123.

Who the FUCK were you watching?

  • Who the hell were YOU watching?

  • this song is fuckin' great

    5 ******************

  • people haven't been listening. I don't slander someone's personal beliefs, I only said the only people capable of slandering are atheist because there are no repercussions for doing so. Now I don't slander them, but when they always go around attacking people who have religion, or any belief in an afterlife, of course I'm going to attack them.

  • if there is a god he's given up on humanity

  • Could someone just keep the Christians out of here? Seems like there's a debate with that kind of scum on every other metal video, and I'm getting sick of that.

  • now i'm god damn sure ur dumb. how can you expect everyone to belive in bible.. i've red it, while being christian. now i'm goddamn atheist. why? becouse i'm not afraid of death/afterlife, god and need no spiritual comfort which you found in religion. i found it myself. enjoy your day.

  • HeroicLegacy - you won't achieve anything by "slandering your personal beliefs". universe was made by something not realy understandful by human race. you say god, i say why should it by the god itself? so don't throw your crap on us.

  • All religions are a form of brainwashing and guidance for weak people.

The Àsatro was more like just some sagas and stuff, not really a religion.
