  • The King is excited!

  • This makes me feel chilly. The tones... so rich and loving. The spirit of God... so present here.

  • I'm sorry, to the 2 people who disliked this...what exactly did you dislike about it? I am curious to know why this is contemptible.

  • does anyone know who this is by? and where you can buy this on a cd?

  • @johny1978007

By Romana Cappela. Google it and you will find all their cds

  • @vagos2006 - Actually, I could not find this particular song recording on their website store. I bought three CDs Byzantium, Music of Byzantium and the Fall of the Constantinople. My research online has lead me to believe it is a separate work at a different time and may be on a single or yet another CD somewhere.

  • @geeker4history - I have the CD "Music of Byzantium" and this track is #7 therein: also happens to be one of my favorites on the CD.

Cheers from a chanter in Texas!

  • @SaphireMongoose - Interesting I hadn't even opened that cd yet haha... I don't even had a disc player working at the moment so I'll have to wait to play this in my car, but I see song #7 and it says it's 14th c, not 12th c. as titled here by vagos.

  • My favorite Greco-Roman chant to date.

  • At least as of last summer Ioannis Arvanitis was back at Agia Irini, where Lycourgos Angelopoulos is the protopsaltis. Wonderful man.

  • Beautyful

  • I know one of the members of Cappela romana!

    Dr. Constantine Kokenes!

Wonderful music. "Byzantine" music or rather hellenic orthodox or roman hellenic orthodox.. how ever u want to name it, is the most beautiful music on earth... if u listen carefully and fill ur heart with prayer..

  • I know most people are more intrigued and love the Russian chanting, however, I am from the school of Byzantine ... if all the chanters kept the rules of the Byzantine chant this IS how heaven will sound ... beautiful work to this chanter beautiful hymn, my Patron Saint Basil intercede for us all!

  • 5:09........those look like Celtic torques!=gold neck rings. who were those two dudes?? from what land did they come from? when i see something like this my analytical mind goes into hyper-speed! :)

  • 3:09......that painting is very old!! my theory:>> from the hair and toga you can tell a western Roman did it because thats what he saw everyone wearing every day. how he and this painting got to Constantinople must be an adventure story in itself!

  • Hey Vagos, you may want to credit the ensemble, Cappella Romana, for bringing this recording to life....

  • I'm not sure Ioannis Arvanitis has an officium from Patriarchate of Constantinople.

  • @leontas2 you are correct... I'm not sure where he works now. Last I talked to him was just after he got married.

Lycourgo is probably still the archpsaltis

  • This is beautiful. Thank you for making it available. Would it be possible for you to post the text?

  • Ah, how rich is our faith! I can listen 2 this every minute of the day. Stay steadfast my Orthodox friends, only our faith will help us and save us.

  • Amen!

  • interesting piece...

  • Hypnotic meditation...awakens the Soul!

    Fantastic paintings and other images!

  • congratulations Vagos ! I just heard the " fall of Constantinople " wonderful !

  • Stunning ! Out of this world !

  • Staggering moment. A time for God.

  • I think so, too...

  • Oh my.... This just made the hair on the back of my neck stand. This is absolutely TREMENDOUS!! I wish I could give it 500 stars. Ah, Byzantine chant... So powerful, so awe-inspiring, so divinely-inspired. May I ask where I can find this piece? I MUST buy this CD!

  • Nevermind, I was so overwhelmed I found the CD available on iTunes in a matter of minutes and bought it in an instant :)

  • I knew that you would like this...very similar to the types of old medieval byzantine chants you have on your site. Glad you bought it. You beat me to it to let you know the cd name..... Track 9 will take you to another world and time and place. Absolutely beautiful!

  • what is the name of track 9?

  • Track 9 is the hymn composed for the Fall of Constantinople. I have already posted it on my page.

  • Thank Vagos2006

    I have download it.

  • Vaggelli, when is this hymn chanted?

    What's the hymn called?

    In Christ

  • Chanted during the vespers of St. Basil the Great Feast Day. I'll have to go through the book to see which chant exactly it is.

  • you would do that for me?

    Thanks man.

Also, hookup a brethren with your Byzantine collection.

    Thanks again!

  • @byzantinechants it is chanted on Jan. 1 which is St. Basil's feast day
