read your comments!!! as everyone is pointing out, you did not explain how to import in final cut....you were about to, then just stopped after log and capture did not work and never got back to it!!!!!
Hi. I have a mystery to solve in my Mac. I have a Canon XL1 (Standard definition)
and I'm editing with Final Cut Pro Express HD. What I want to do is: Download 4 or 5 hours of video from the XL1, make the editing, export (usually is 24 GB), burn in IDV (maximum is 4.2GB (with chapters) and watch it in a big 52 inch HD, 108o with very good quality. How can I do that with what I have, or better what I should do to get HD in that T.V with XL1 an FCE? Do I need a Blue ray Burner?
@DiminishedStudios I don't understand your comment in that I don't understand what you are trying to communicate. Are you pushing for not using Final Cut or what?
Thanks for your videos. They are very helpful. I am using the same set-up you have here with the same HDV deck into a MacBook Pro with Final Cut Pro 5. When I am capturing the video from the deck I cannot monitor the audio or video on my MacBook monitor on any of the Final Cut screens. Is this normal? Is there a way to watch it in real time while I am capturing?
Also after the capture when I am viewing the video on the Final Cut viewer it is very jumpy. It is not jumpy on the camcorder monitor.
I am not sure if this is normal and/or if this is because I am not making the capture correctly. I am using an HVR-V1u and shooting 1080i/24p (if that makes sense, I am not 100% I should be using the 24p or if I am using it correctly...)
And I am capturing with the Final Cut audio/video settings; HDV 1080i/60, HDV and Sony HDV Firewire.
And on the deck; HDV 1080i/60i and the menu settings are; HDV, 60 and HDV (on the yellow indicator lights.)
When you do your log and capture, there is a tab where it gives you the option to check "preview" for the audio. Check this and you should be able to hear the audio play through the computer speakers.
I have run into numerous problems importing with the Sony Deck with using 24 frames per second. If shooting 24 frames, you may have to import using the actual camera as the player.
I just dropped a bundle on this HDV deck so I wouldn't have to log the hours on my v1u heads... What a waste. I could have got an EX1 for the price of my v1u and the deck. I am beginning to despise tape. I think it may be obsolete at this point. One day I will have the EX3 ;-)
I have a KODAK playtouch is it the same?
