I think movies and shows come out the best when the actors and staff are all friends. This (firefly/serenity) and Dr. Who are my two favorite shows, and I think on DW, most of the actors are pretty close as well.

If they had kept it on air, there is a strong possibility that there wouldn't have been a movie. Serenity came out 2ish years after Firefly was cancelled (2005, (late)2002 respectively) due to fan activity and fundraisers, which is what persuaded Universal to approve of the production of the movie. There was, unfortunately, no hope for the return of the actual television series, so the death of Wash and Book is irrelevant to the series.
I worked as an extra in two episodes of Firefly and it was great fun just watching the cast and crew interact when the cameras weren't rolling. Nathan Fillion was constantly cracking people up. I only wish I'd watched the show when it was on!

This show was amazing. The wit and comedy in it was really refreshing and unique. Firefly blended that comedy with emotional concepts and deep moments, which is not easy to do. Also it had action and intrigue. And because it was set in the future and space it that added an element of fantasy to it. The characters and their relationships to each other were complex, which is something I like because I've found that complex relationships tend to keep cliches away. All around a fantastic show, <3
Was devastated Mister Nishka wasn't in the movie, one of the greatest villains of all time. First watched the series from a friend's computer a few months ago and when I got to the end of season 1 and realized there was no more, I was gutted.

@YorkJonhson *Spoilers* Well there are Serenity comics that tell you little more about Wash and what happens after his dfeath, and The Shepherds Tale comic tells you all about Book's back story aswell. I agree about the TV show, that's when it should be set if ever, but it wouldn't really allow for much progression of character as Kaylee & Simon get together in the film, Zoe is found to be pregnant after Wash's death. Nothing much could progress as far as it would've had the show continued.

And Kaylee and Simon could still get their moment together, it could be pulled off and developed in an episodic format, as well as other events that the movie covered. You know, if they wanted to excuse the movie and retell it as a series.

@EVAUnit4A If I remember right, you had to do some hunting on the original DVD of Serenity to find this and the thing about the Fruity Oaty Bar. I found the Fruity Oaty Bar one when my DVD player remote was low and battery and therefore being dumb. They're easier to get to on the Special Edition release.

@ilikebeingme it's like this, You fid a show that really inspires you! It is well made and it is AWESOME! The chanel it was on not only didn't advertise it as it should have, but it screwed up the airing of the show and canceled it before it even had the chance it should have. (It has such a fan base now that a 'MOVIE' could be made of it with out it flopping. So what's that tell you? Fox made a mistake.) That's all they were saying. I for one miss the show and want it back.
If Firefly can't come back, I vote that whatever series Whedon does next has the same actors and actresses in it. You can't fight good chemistry like that.
I love watching the beginning of the futuram movie bender's big score where they rip on the fox executives that cancelled them, terminator the sarah connnor chronicles, and firefly, and they do it by saying that the fox executives were ground up into a little powder that can be used to treat itches in your private parts.
Too bad they killed off two main characters. That pretty much killed any chance of them ever making the show again (even if it was started by a different network)

I can't imagine the excitement for the cast (and crew) when they heard they were making this, they were doing more Firefly again! I mean ... they're the shows biggest fans!! lol :P

@tehredmage yeah thats because they are criticising the neywork and they would probably cancel any show on their network that did that... Plus the ones from castle are probably mostly because nathan fillion is on the show... On a side note, i also thought i should mention that a commercial for TBBT was playing on TV as i wrote this! :)

@DoomShepherd TOTALLY agree, And "Survivor" & any other reality tv garbage. My husband and I stopped watching tv 7 yrs ago. Cancelled our cable subscription. It's not worth it, I feel dumber after watching modern tv. What a waste. Now we just get the series we want by downloading them if available or getting them at a store. Much more satisfying and NO COMMERCIALS! Woot! Firefly was amazing, Buffy & Angel were garbage. What happened to you Joss Whedon? THIS is what you should be proud of.

heh ^^ you know, Fox has really received the only proper punishment for canceling a show like firefly: their name is forever tarnished. plus, with the movie getting made and all, they get to realize just what a golden goose they slaughtered. can you even imagine how much money the show would've made them, had it continued? i bet the guy who made the decision to cut it thinks about it all the time, and wonder why he was such a moron ^^

@likebeingme: The upset towards fox (in this instance anyway) is not because of their biased, hate mongering "news", it's because they totally SCREWED Firefly. They didn't even air the 1st episode till the end, they pre-empted the show for sports crap, other episodes never aired... they never gave it a chance to get off the ground. They killed the BEST DAMN SHOW they ever had. So for all y'all saying fox SUCKS, I'm right there with ya!

@ilikebeingme it's like this, You fid a show that really inspires you! It is well made and it is AWESOME! The chanel it was on not only didn't advertise it as it should have, but it screwed up the airing of the show and canceled it before it even had the chance it should have. (It has such a fan base now that a 'MOVIE' could be made of it with out it flopping. So what's that tell you? Fox made a mistake.) That's all they were saying. I for one miss the show and want it back.

I love watching the beginning of the futuram movie bender's big score where they rip on the fox executives that cancelled them, terminator the sarah connnor chronicles, and firefly, and they do it by saying that the fox executives were ground up into a little powder that can be used to treat itches in your private parts.
