The reason Tai kills himself is that he always believed everything happened for a reason. He was a very strong willed person and the stuff the Locust put him through was to show that even they could break even the strongest of the the gears. He had to die for that very reason. It was a way of showing the power behind the Locust horde.

@ Exkild They broke him physically and psychologically. He didnt want to risk getting captured again, so when he was finally handed a weapon, all he saw was an easy way out of all the pain he was in. The guy was so messed up he couldnt even speak when he was freed, and could barely lift the shotgun to his face.

He was still in tons of pain, if you could tell from his labored breathing. Actually, those might not be whip marks. They could be from them cutting his back with a blade, or something. But the point is, if you were in that much physical and mental pain, you'd want to kill yourself too. He was still in tons of pain, even while being free.

This scene got me more than the one with Maria and Dom, honestly. When I saw Tai was alive I was thinking "Hell yeah! We got the BAMF back!" then he shot himself and I was like "Hoooly shit."
