Recognizing that "the good ol' days" are right here- right now has been a worthwhile and enlightening endeavor. Wish I'd have only done it sooner. In reflection, That outlook has acted as a "sweetener" of life past and present. Worth the effort. Small investment of the mind that pays nicely when you'd be "down" otherwise.
Or should older folks retreat from life a bit and be more contemplative? There are issues older people have to deal with that the young just can't understand. But he's right about being forever nostalgic for the good old days. They weren't that good.
It is funny because when I was young I thought my grandmothers were out of touch and boring. I remember mentioning George Harrison to my grandmother and her saying, "oh is he related to Rex Harrison"? Now it is I who is out of touch, although I'd like to think I keep up better than my grandmothers. They didn't have the internet.
@mae1958 Good answer. I believe that if one has the self awareness to reason the way you do, one is not necessarily OUT of touch, one simply choose to be IN touch with what one is comfortable with. In which case it becomes more of a lifestyle choice, doesn`t it? And that can hardly be called being out of touch? Lol.
