God, I miss that place. I went to the Beach just about every weekend when I was growing up. And, I was there the last day it was opened. They never should have closed it. Great memories, thanks for posting.
I remember going to the beach every weekend during the summer with Mrs trayler and her sons, fond memories on the last day the rock group Iron Butterfly played, but unfortunatly as before mentioned force intergration caused its closeing gangs, graffitti and the rest of the wonderful things associated with forced intergration
@ascii3fhex They also couldn't compete with video games (Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, etc.) and cable TV as well; those two would REALLY spell the end for Pontchartrain Beach.
I loved this place. Note at 3:28 who just finished riding the Rajin Cajun. Yes, it it....The Most Interesting Man in the World! Stay thirsty my friends!
OMG ! I never knew someone to have this much footage of the beach. Thanks for the memories. I lived just down the street from the park, and was there every weekend.
Rajun Cajun ruled !
I can still smell the electrical spark from the bumper cars. lol
The Rajun Cajun is still in operation till this day in six flags Great Escape in New York, now known as the Steamin Demon.
I remember the last summer of the beach, Lillian axe a hair metal band played at the beach and that was one of my favorite groups among savage white, and zebra of that time. the 80's was the best time ever. pure decadence.
I worked at the beach the last summer of 1983 I was 16 years old. and it was the time of my life. We rode the raging Cajun before the park open in the morning and after park closed in the eve, with the shoulder restraints pushed back against the seats and we would sit in front of the restraints, you would actually come out of your seat about 6in on the loop and two barrels. It was crazy, but we were kids. last day we put detergent in the log ride, best time of my life. brings back good memories
My mom and paw paw would go to this place all the time back in the 50s. My mom said she would be scared to hell of the Zephyr while my paw paw was laughing his ass off. haha. I wasnt born til 95 so i never got to experiance this. I did get to experiance Jazz Land and Six Flags though. The Mega Zeph was amazing, though I would prefer a ride on the Zephyr any day.
OH GOD THIS IS GREAT !! I see you call your grandpa PAW PAW too !! When I moved to the midwest after I grew up in N. Orleans everyone thought it was weird that I called my granpa Paw Paw ! LOL WILD MAUS !!! that used to be my favorite ride !!!!!!!! thsi is GREAT!
Ditto what allencsr said! I was not there on the last day but that would be my destination if I could go back in time! There will never be a place like it!
WowThanks for Posting! I was also there that day!!!! I miss Pontchartrain Beach so much wish i could go back in time that would be my destination the late 70s to ride the Zephyr and go in the Haunted House and ride the bumber cars. Ah the Memories.
Thanks so so much for posting! I caught myself smiling from ear to ear several times while watching. Man, I wish we could go back even if just for a day!
