  • how resolution is it ?

  • I did this one time.

  • Cool, Zelda on the small screen!

  • thats probably bad for your eyes

  • I've wanted to do this for a while, but I haven't been able to find a suitable viewfinder screen yet. I love the clarity of that for it's size!

  • What did you use for the regulator to keep it at 5 volts? If you can send me a message with a link of what one looks like, I may be able to find one at radio shack.

  • I grabed it out of one of those 1999 hi8 sony video cameras. I have 6 volts hooked up to it, but voltage matters correct? So once the correct voltage is to the camera, the picture should come in clear?

  • This might help clear it up, although I'd have to see how you have it hooked up and what the board looks like. If you post a vid I'll check it out and try to figure out what's the problem. I can't make any guarantees, but I'll try.

  • How do you tune the video in. I sodered some wires to the ribbon cable, and cant get the video to come in clear. Any idea how to get the video to be clear? I just see fuzzy stuff and some part of the sony logo from my ps1.

  • Did you completely remove the viewfinder from the camcorder? Make sure you've disconnected it and powered it with a 5VDC supply. Interference from the camcorder's signal could cause this problem.

  • How do you do this? I have one of these tubes and I'd like to use it for this.

  • This is built from an 80s camera view finder. I removed the view finder from the camera, removed the board and CRT, then tested the wires to see which ones were power, ground, and video. It's a pretty simple modification to make if you can find out which wires are what. They're all different. These viewfinders use 5V, so be sure to put a regulator on it so higher voltage doesn't destroy the circuitry.

  • I see. I knew it was from a viewfinder (I took mine from a viewfinder of a camcorder from about 1999). Now I know how to power it. I wonder, however, how I can hook a TV tuner up to it. And I could run the CRT off a battery.

  • The batteries would be pretty easy since all you'd have to do is get a battery holder that adds up to about the right voltage. I'm not sure about the TV tuner. I don't know of any that are sold as single PCBs.

  • I was planning on stripping a pocket TV (and smash the LCD, because I prefer the tube), but I don't know if it would work.

  • You should try it...and definitely make a video of smashing the LCD. There aren't enough LCD smashers out there.

  • Agreed. I might find a broken LCD monitor (or even a working one) on ebay to smash with my Louisville Slugger. The pocket TV LCD would still get smashed either way, but more LCDs might be added (probably many pocket calculators and maybe an entire Game Gear as well).

  • Legend of Zelda rocks, especially on a micro-CRT!
