I am double your age and I was raised in an entirely different society, under a harsh communist deictatorship in Europe. Nevertheless their homophobia was even more dramatic than that of the Church, and I have suffered tremenously, unspeakable. My question again is: how come very few Gay Christians give up their oppresive religion? How can somebody continue to be a Christian after taking all that crap from the Church?
Well first and foremost, we are Christians. We believe that Jesus was the Son of God, died for our sins, and loves us very much. What other so-called Christians do doesn't change that.
Christ is the savior, not Christianity!
Christianity, religion, the churches... all man-made. All conceived after the fall of Adam and Eve... all subject to imperfection. Just because a church full of so-called Christians hate us doesn't mean that Christ does.
see? this is good. a christian that's gay. because in the lgbt community, to a lot of gays christianity is full of haters, hatefulness, and hate. lots... of hate.
Thank you. I am so happy to see people like me speaking out. I grew up as a preachers kid. What the Church said really messed me up. I tried really hard to be straight until it almost killed me. Now there is still this huge stumbling block to my faith; put there by the likes of Dobson, Robertson, and Falwell. They are so like toast for all the harm they have done. Every day I must "wipe the dust of their village from my feet". God will judge them as they have judged us.
Very good question! I don't have enough space to explain here so perhaps I will post another video.
In short, there are only six verses in the entire Bible that address gays. All address gays in the context of rape, orgies, etc. None address it in the context of a loving committed relationship. In fact there are even a few pro-gay verses. Go to Soulforce for details.
Norman was an analogy for gays. Norman was born different. He mooed instead of barking. All his littermates shunned him because he was different. The message was that we should all be a little more accepting of people that are different.
Norman was a huge success not because he proved anyone right or wrong, but because he got our entire community talking about this issue.
I really like that you made this video because a lot of people use Christianity as their excuse for being homophobic when indeed, there ARE gay Christians out there who are EQUALLY LOVED BY GOD! I'm so glad you had the strength to come out.
I do have respect for you, i'm a fellow christian but i am not gay. But still ROCK ON! some of the best people out there are gay because they just aren't stuck up. plus your a christian! rock on even more! <3<3
That was a great vid. you make a lot of valid points. The strereotypes is defenitly something that is hard to deal with. Everyone thinks of only one thing when they hear that you are gay. They automatticly think ur a gurly guy etc... but yea good on you buddy for coming out of the closet! I just did this year. :)
I also live in Colorado Springs, so Hello Neighbor!! I thought it was just disgusting when they came out with Sherman to combat Norman. They resorted to child-like behaviors instead of christian-like behaviors. Thanks for posting and sharing your story.
Colorado Springs is horrible, but overall Colorado is pretty good. Denver and Boulder are gay friendly. Our representatives are almost 50/50 from each party... one more on the D side right now.
If you go to Denver you'll see rainbow stickers or HRC stickers. In Colorado Springs, nothing of the sort. Here you get a lot of "Marriage = 1 man + 1 woman, period!" stickers. Focus on the Family clearly runs the show down here.
Gay marriage is not legal here. Last year voters defeated a domestic partnerships by about 52-48. Norman, the puppy that moos, was a part of the pro-equality side of that attempt. FOTF immediately came out with Sherman, the puppy that barks... because we all know that puppies that moo are evil and are going to hell. :)
In 1992, FOTF pushed Amendment 2 which passed... banning any organization from giving ANY protections or rights to GLBT people.
Yeah I've got it set such that each comment requires my approval before it appears. If there's anyone out there stuggling like I was long ago, they don't need to see any hateful comments. Only one of those so far.
Thank you very much for your positive comments. We need more Christians out there like you. The only way that's going to happen is if more GLBT people and straight allies like you come out!
For colojason: Hi Jason! I am a 39yr. old married Christian woman. I am the Outreach director for my church. It disturbs me when I deal with other Christians that feel free to make others feel badly about themselves even when their own lives are so messed up. I'm sorry that you went into a deep depression and was made to feel that you were unworthy of God's love. Don't ever doubt God's love.
Your beauty and light is what makes religion a beautiful thing. People who realize that difference and tolerance are things that need to be accepted and practiced. YOU are truly spreading God's love with love and acceptance. true beauty.
For colojason: Hi Jason! I am a 39yr. old mother that is a married Christian. I am the Outreach director for my church. I applaud you for being honest about your life. That is more than I can say about some of the other Christians that I know. I'm sorry that people sent you into such a deep depression and made you feel unworthy of God's love. It disturbs me when I deal with other Christians that feel free to make others feel badly about themselves when their own lives are messed up.
I apologize. I mumbled a bit there. What I was saying was that he accepted me even though he's another Christian. In Colorado Springs, the Christians here are exceptionally judgmental and I wanted to commend my friend for not being judgmental like the others.
We are a heavily Christian, heavily Republican city. At our local youth shelter, GLBT youth account for 20-25% of the homeless youth in our city. I don't see how so many Christian parents could kick their kid out on the street.
Nicely done Jason!

in what way does focus on the family have an impact?
is gay marriage legal in colorado?
i live in oklahoma city and you really just see a mix of both bumper stickers. but you see lack in churches to accept gay people.

"Even though he's not a Christian"?
Like Christians are the only ones who can be accepting, despite their UNacceptance of Gay people ALONE.
