However I'm open to the existence of a higher power because i cannot 100% say there isn't one. However I'm about 99.9% sure there isn't.

Man this guy is dumb. People are either Atheistic or Theistic, Agnostic/Gnostic is based on what you know or don't know. All Atheists/Theists are really agnostic because no one knows for sure (no matter how enthusiastically they claim) whether there is or isn't a god. So if you are religious you are a agnostic theist, if you don't believe you are an agnostic atheist. Some are stronger atheists/theists than others. And atheists don't believe everything came from nothing, that is strictly theology

There's a good reason why people use a higher level of scrutiny when it comes to Christianity, and it doesn't have anything to do with liberal bias. It is because just about every politician has to pass the Christian litmus test, and other religions are underrepresented, if recognized at all. If a Muslim elected official decided to promote pro-Islamic fundamentalist propaganda in our legislature, how quickly would Fox jump on them?

he doesn't know what an atheist is, you can be an agnostic atheist! Gnosticism refers to absolute knowledge so an agnostic atheist claims no absolute knowledge that there is no god but based on the lack of evidence rejects the idea of one whereas a gnostic atheist asserts that he/she knows there is no god. The same rules apply to theists, you can be an agnostic theist - don't know for certain but believe there is a god. I would categorise that woman as an untruthful theist.
