  • 'Indie' is what's popular at the moment. So much to the point of cliche. Most of these bands are pretty much carbon copies of one another, as much as any pop group. The only difference is the pretentiousness, which NME's darlings have in abundance. Indie Hipsters need to get a sense of humour.

  • I'm sorry that's such rubbish. So-called "indie" bands like the Hoosiers or Socuting for Girls are as manufactured if not more than Girls Aloud (at least in terms of the music they produce). I'm not a particular fan of Girls Aloud but I admire them because they're totally aware of their position as not being as serious as some other bands and the whole point of this song is to attack those bands who take themselves way more seriously than their talent actually merits.

  • See the comment made by playbic15 for my answer. And even though I'm not even a particular fan of Girls Aloud I reject the notion that because they were formed on a TV show then they can't have worked hard to be where they are. Everyone wrote them off when they first formed and so for them to be where they are now says something for their perserverance and strength of character. And I'm sorry, bands like the Hoosier and Scouting for Girls are shamelessly derivative.

  • yes but you are just looking at one strand of rock...which imo is pretty lame..pop indie rock. but bands spread far more than the hoosiers...for example pantera, metallica, kings of leon, oasis, foo fighters, chilli peppers are bands that have personality of their own which girls aloud lack. these guys have character, girls aloud were told to stay together and the corporate army threw money at them and the producers to create some hype that you all fall for...but never forget...its all a lie lol

  • I don't think this is an insult to indie per say but more a dig at talentless stars sons and daughters! I would not buy GA's album but can appreciate the musics good quality!

    At least there openly commercial unlike some of these Young North London bands who would be nowhere if not for there influential parents ie Geldof and even Winehouse to some degree.

    These are normal lasses who have come from nowhere and worked very hard.

    Plus MCR may have had "indie" roots, but now they're just as manufatured as girlbands like Girls Aloud. They worked with the same producer that Green Day and Avril Lavigne worked with.

  • Green Day made Rob Cavallo famous, so I wasn't referring to them in that way. What I meant to say is that mcr and Avril Lavigne can get away with being manufactured pop-punk acts, they work with the same producers, act the same etc ...

    But Girls Aloud gets bashed on for being "manufactured" just because they were formed on a TV show. Girls Aloud makes music that experiments with various sounds and, unlike lots of "indie" bands, their albums don't sound alike.
