Make me wonder if maybe this may have some beneficial effects on say petroleum based fuels? That maybe something we need to take a closer look at. Thanks for sharing. Tec
This is "neonxrays", look at my videos on you tube under "neon xrays" you will see a violet neon light that is produced from a magnetic collapse, that is generated by a Newman generator, this is a close effect that was made by a guy Joe Papp, who made a noble gas engine. He expanded neon gas to helium through a higher energy state, that is the answer to your quest, you shift the energy state by the UV light, also check out Quantum rabbit on you tube..Al
My hypothoses: Well i have heard that UV light has the ability to ionize gas. Perhaps, the UV light partially ionized part of the gas in the neon indicator lamp, making it the easiest route for the current to pass.
I would love to hear from people who have a different opinion! :)
I wonder if you tried this without the lens? (using the UV light from the pen direct). Do you know the frequency of the voltage used to flash the neon? This is a great demo..Thanks!
yes i tried it without the lens.thats how i found it in the first place!=] then i thought how far away can it still do this from?
the power to the neon was from a small cold cathode power supply.hooked up with 1 leg of the neon to the power, the other leg to a short antenna.(i.e.open circuit)
also works with a red laser pointer-but not as reliable.UV did it everytime!
I was able to confirm your findings! For my test I used what I have at hand (small Tesla coil). I attached one wire (one foot long) to one lead of a number 5AH neon glow lamp. When the Tesla coil is on, the top of the neon lamp lights like in your video. If I position the UV LED light output near the center or lower part of the neon lamp then more of the neon lamp is lit. I could not get this to work with a laser or bright white LED only with the UV LED. Amazing!
I posted a crude video. When I get time I'll try some different voltage sources for the neon, maybe I will then get a different response from the neon. I have a couple other UV LEDs also, I believe one of them is 360nm.
more heat? good question...it does not get warm at all to the touch so would need a sensitive thermometer-i just put onto a digi thermometer to try and get a baseline without UV.
@PostDefacto989 yes interesting idea-are you aware of stanley meyers EPG?

Dude, patent it. A cold cathode ignition system could prolong the life of a cold cathode lamp or start a hot cathode lamp.
I want it for my kitchen, the cheap high voltage instant start of the t8 bulbs burns it out in 3 months. I need to replace it with a program ballast.

I think that UV helps to ionize the gas, by giving more energy. Am I right?

You've re-discovered the old fact that neon gas can be ionized by light. Not just UV, but UV has a high energy potential.
Nothing new here kids.. move along.

Great discoverey !
Maybe this way we can get higher heat output from the Dr. Stiffler SEC circuit by using in addition to the Neon bulb just UV LEDs..
instead of white LEDs.
Is the neon glowing Neon bulb putting out more heat ?
Many thanks.

i dont see any change in heat.its running off a cold cathode driver.and quite possibly the thermometer is not sensitive enough

wonder whqt it would do to a jaccobs ladder or tesla coil?
