  • is a limpet a snail????? im confused Dx

  • I was Looking at Alien Videos , and i ended Here.

  • @wargarkaz

Limpets are grazers. They are not snails but do a similar job. These taste great though.

  • sounds like brokeback mountain 2

  • I used to eat them raw as a kid when I'd go fishing for mackerel with my father. They are also nice poached in a little vinegar and oil or even lemon and oil. Razor clams are 100 times better and so easy to harvest. You should make a video of razor clam harvesting Sean.

  • i hate it when you pick limpets and it punches you in the face...

  • i'll try to try eating them tomorrow. They look absolutely awful those things! Hope you're not joking :)

  • do the shells fal off automatically

  • Once cooked they do.

  • meant to post the bushcraft one only for you to see sean

  • sean, great videos as usual, been scrounging the internet for eastern US habitat of limpets. NH only has 13 miles of shore line=( but i do to the sea on occasion and enjoy it (not the ocean but shorelines lol) i was wondering if you knew if limpets lived on the other side of the Atlantic, or do they like the UK rocks better? i've heard UK rocks are quite tasty. lol jk but if you could help me out that'd be great. thanks 5/5

  • Silver Fox what is up with the sound? I have to strain to hear a word you say.

  • hahahaha the hiking stick ,

i like the way the video was cut just before the huge heavy stick came into use,

  • You can use any pointed object to prise them off the rocks. I had explained I already had enough for what I wanted and only showed my stick to offer an alterantive method for removing them.

  • Why not use the fishingline for catching a fish?

  • your mum is an idiot

  • never mind I got the song

  • What's the name of the song at the beginning?

  • Good looking out for that fishing line. I always try and cut the plastic rings from six packs of soda. Easy preventative measure to prevent unnecessary death. Great video as well. Keep up the good work.

  • i live about as far from the sea as you can get.

if i could cook limpets for breakfast i would be so happy.

  • Try it next time you go to the seaside. A hexamine tablet, and lighter and a sheet of metal. Even a foil takeaway tub will do.

    Sean

  • Hello Sean, I have to search my coastlines for Limpets, I havent seen any live ones, what I have found are fossil of Limpets though.

I'm into Sportfishing and I really hate when I find fishinglines on the coast, my rule is, If you could carry your things with you out, you can carry it back home.

Great vid's been watching them all day long, now I just want my DD hammock and DD tarp to arrive so I can take my daughter out and teach her some bushcraft and survival skills.

  • SilverFox...Another great video. While you are out foraging and living off the land, I'm drinking a cup of coffee in my living room and watching. Life in the internet age is wild. Keep the inspiration coming my friend!

  • Thank you. I have some extra batteries coming for my video camera, so I will be able to make more comprehensive videos and more scene shots. Watch this space.

  • That was really good. I thought that there might be an issue with polluted water with limpets. I'd deffinatly be up for trying them out nex time im at the beach now!

  • love your videos nad i've never tried limpets hope i can eat one, one day

  • Great video. Very informative too.

I think I'll add my kneepads to the kit I'm currently using. Seems very comfortable.

    5/5 and subbed.

  • did you add water to boil the limpits?

or did you just 'dry-fry' them?

    love ya vids,

  • I just fried them in thier shells. Once you heat them up some water is relesed from the limpits. Once the shells come away they are ready to eat. Pull off the black sack and enjoy.

  • i agree i hate litter....

  • They are as tough as old boots I have to say.

  • I have to disagree. They have a slight texture not unlike prawns. I do not find them tough at all.

  • Fair enough. I must not have boiled them for long enough when I tried them.

  • They seem a bit like shrimp to me; overcook them and they get very tough and rubbery.

I wish they would migrate further inland. :(

  • lol. I might give them another try

  • Another great Vid thanks Sean.

  • i was crabing wonce on a slippery ledge and a dog came past, he almost pulled me in! i got so frustrated

  • erm im not to sure about the music

  • brilliant vid again thanks

ps your not wearing your built in gloves

    why not

  • Sometimes you get snags while fishing and can't recover the lower piece of your gear. So I can't fault fishermen for leaving that in the water. We're responsible for picking stuff up while we're out, but there's been a few trips where I was glad someone missed picking up some fishing line.

  • great vid thanks.

  • Great Video!

    Thanks Sean

  • I like limpets as well, mate. There are so many of them. I knock them off the rocks with my boots. I think you can make a tasty pie out of them. But I eat them the same as you. Good advice about the fishing line as well.

  • The problem I find with limpets is that no matter how much you rinse them the sand always gets into my fillings

  • Nice vid Sean, you should do more about food.

I was thinking about the knee pads, have you thought about sewing on a waterproof layer on the front. Made out of rubber or something? Did your mate say anything about how dirty they get, or do you just drop them in the washing machine? I was thinking about kneeling in mud ect next to a fire after rain or whatever.

  • The knee pads have a rubber waterproof inner. This also helps keep them in place. As for the dirt I dont mind them getting grubby as it will help them to blend in to the surroundings, so I have no intention of washing them. If they get really bad them I make rinse the worst off under a tap or stream.

  • I wanted to refer you to a fellow Utube-er who makes ultra lite cooking gear for backpackers. his call sign is minibulldesign. he also has a web site with the same name plus "dot" com... I am going to mention your videos to him as well! Happy Day

  • Thank you.

  • In California mussels are quarantined from 5/1- 10/31.Other mollusks aren't quarantined because mussels accumulate the natural toxins present at this time of year easier and because the mussel viscera where the toxins accumulate is eaten. The viscera of other mollusks should be removed during the quarantine.Like you say pollution is probably another concern and grazers like limpets, chitons and snails are not a danger.Another video of you foraging for other shellfish would be interesting.

  • I'll see what I can do. Thanks for your comment.

  • aloha great vid...in hawaii we call them opihi and eat them raw...

  • I have never tried them raw. Maybe I'll try them next time.

  • Sound advice Sean. fishing line like 6pack beer rings are deadly to birds. thanks for the great video once again. Ed

  • First....nice video....as always
