Zappa is the F*CKIN GREATEST guitar player ever , and I love Hendrix, sometimes I cant say who is better but it's one of the two , they're on two different planes , but I think they can visit each others .
this guy was more of a joker not a musician. He just wrote songs to piss ppl off and make fun and this biography proves it. He didnt write music for music sakes and thats sad, its sad that he has to pick at certain ppl. R.I.P Zappa Rest In Pain!
@MeistroMac91 that is very untrue what you said. he has more instrumental songs than he has songs with lyrics that piss ppl off. so you are incorrect.
The question I'd like to ask is what the hell does Matt Groening do in this biography? Apparently he likes Zappa and has already become a minor celebrity by the mid 90's thanks to the Simpsons, but what else is there to state his purpose in this program?
They were friends. The TUVAN throat singer bit at the end of the show is a result of Groening going to see them in concert. He had asked Zappa whether or not he was interested in going to see them, but Zappa wasn't well enough by then. However, he asked Groening to invite them over to his house, hence the improv. session.
I think MTV did a movie about the Senate obscenity hearings that Tipper Gore started, and Zappa was one of the main players in that drama. I cant remember who played Frank.
I recall seeing it 9 years ago. It was on VH1. The Zappa persona was well-done in the film. I can't remember the name of the film or the actor either.
@fulvia67 that sounds like an idea that would be easily fucked up in hollywood. the actor that played him in the censorship movie was horrible. but that doesn't mean it's impossible, just frustrating if not worth the time.
i always think about the fact that frank found out about his cancer suddenly, even though he'd gotten yearly check ups. was frank getting too big for the guv'ment to tolerate? i bet he coulda made PREZ had he lived, i just know it. and he woulda been a damn fine one too.
I know what you are getting at here rongravy. A similar thought crossed my mind a month ago... I'm not really into conspiracy theories but I wonder if Zappa himself questioned the suddeness of his very aggressive cancer. Would make a great movie plot:-)
Bob Dylan's doing commercials. That's not very threatening. He was also preaching to the choir in the political realm. If today's guvment was killin folks it would be Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck, Savage, etc. Most musicians are praising the guvment these days.
You can see Frank talk about the doctors misdiagnosing him for years, in the clips of his interview with Katie Couric. He died of prostate cancer, which isnt usually fatal.
Frank has been my hero/idol since I was about 13 years old. I don't think that's going to change.

Apparently this aired on A & E shortly after his death so the guess would be that this was on in early 1994.

If the "guvment", as rongravy put it truly cared about musicians who posed a threat to them, Bob Dylan would've been dead a long time ago.
