This song still gets to me, as I remember it at the end of SIlent Running, when the last forest silently sails off into space, cared for by the last of the three robots Bruce Derning had as his helpmates, huey, lewey and dewey
There was an LP album with this name released in the late seventies... probably the only collection of sad songs from the usually sunshiny John Denver... Includes the Elinor Rigby song...
@MrSirrocco I have JD's version of Eleanor Rigby but Oh my goodness it sets my teeth off.. like the effects of a cold ice cream!!! But if anyone want to hear it do let me know
Thank-you for sharing your video . I love this song of JohnDenvers. I have never heard this one. So sad it sounds. I believe he really wanted to know who the garden belong to; & now he knows.
Marion, I will never tire of your wonderful videos you put with John's music. This one, as dagocleo said, spoke out loud!!!!! Profound......sad. When are we going to wake up???? In my life time? In your life time? When? John tried!!!!! :-(
Thank you so much for uploading this! I have been looking everywhere for John Denver's version of the song. It's so moving, and even more relevant today than when it was released 40 years ago.
Jesus that took my breath away. there's a figure in the image earlier in the video and it made me jump. I could feel emotion of all sorts during that. To me i see it as a reminder that life passes and then its gone. it tells me to enjoy the time we have. It frightens me to think that it will surely end. So brilliant Catbrush. So sad too. FB
Tom Paxton released this song in 1969... 40 years ago.!!!!!! If only the powers that be had taken it on board then but no one wanted to know .... there was money to be made and who cared if there was a price to be paid later.
Hello from Ireland. Thank you for your comment. Ths song makes one think. The bit that got to me is when J D's voice almost breaks when he sings " It must have been lovely" the second time.
Beautiful
