  • that reaction was purely cos you smacked the bonnet.

had u tapped the window and spoke to him he would have reacted v differently.

  • @madhatter786

TBH, the reason I smacked the bonnet was purely a reaction to his attempt to knock me off my bike. He saw my right-turn signal but as an "Advanced Driver" chose to ignore it. Something needed to be done to prevent an accident. But I'm glad we were able to discuss the whole thing, as in the end he did appear to understand things a little differently.

  • Cool hat bro.

  • @peabrainedmikey1979 the guy is Indian, Sikh origin. Get your facts right before you resort to mindless racial abuse you prick.

  • dumb paki punk

  • The best solution I'm aware of is to make your bicycle appear to be an obvious scratch hazard. I don't know how to do that but it will make stuck-up car drivers give a wider berth than if they think all that's going to happen is hitting a soft, non-car-scratching human. An elderly gentleman I know carries a walking stick with a large, shiny metal ferrule. He swings it around as he walks and the cars give him a wide berth. It's a sad reflection on stuck-up car drivers that this method works.

  • Obviously the system of roads and pavements is unsatisfactory and dangerous. The stuck-up car drivers endanger the cyclists. The pavement riding cyclists endanger the pedestrians. The horrible truth is some motorists are more concerned that their car remains scratch free than they are about the safety of cyclists. Cyclists with expensive machines are also frequently anally retentive when it comes to relating to others when their machine is involved.

  • Soon as the vid started I thought; hold on... I know that road. Used to live down percival rd just round the corner and went to squirrels heath. Blimey not seen the old gaffe for a while!!

  • 1:18 - comical walk.

  • Very well done !!

I would probably have booted his car and given him a dent or a smashed light for his education. Then I would have to break the law by doing a swift u and using the footpath. ;-)

I always cycle in steel toe caps for this reason having been also cut up once to often.

    Peace :-)

  • Don't misunderstand me. I've got a large collection of bicycles. I encourage all my family to ride. I'm looking forward to a time when oil prices force more people to cycle. I just don't understand the eager beavers who won't pull over into any of the numerous gateways to let following traffic past.

I'll only overtake when I judge it to be safe so I end up following riders who don't even look as if they're enjoying what they're doing.

  • You.. Touched.. His.. Car...???

That's why I drive a car that looks like a piece of shit. I can drive it up against the hedge, pull off onto rough ground or even have it touched by a cyclist without feeling upset.

What does piss me off is cyclists who ride for miles on single track roads without ever giving way to following vehicles. Can anyone tell me why sports cyclists feel justified in holding up rural traffic? Would they feel it was correct if they were held up in their daily commute?

  • @underterraingrunter What do you mean by "rural traffic"? Sheep? horses? cattle?tractors? caravans? cyclists? walkers? Or just you in your car? How do you justify wanting to drive faster down a single track country road?

I am often held up by cars on my daily bike commute; as no doubt are you every time you're in a traffic jam you helped create; Pedestrians are also waiting ever longer for the green man since the recent re-phasing of traffic lights. So yes I know how it feels to be held up.

  • @zivkovicable Hi.

Rural traffic is traffic in rural areas. Six people regularly use our car and occasionally others. The number on board at any one time varies. I'm a very slow and careful driver as my spotless record shows. If you were a parent you'd understand the need to complete all chores and be there in time to pick up children from school etc. I've only been driving for a few years, before that it was always bicycles, horses, hitching, and lots of walking. Parenthood changes all that.

  • @zivkovicable It isn't possible for bikes to be held up by cars on the sort of roads I drive on. That's a town thing. I don't do town or city driving so I know nothing about traffic jams. If either of those things bother you I heartily recommend moving into the countryside. We live in a council house, it doesn't take capital to move into the countryside, just the will to do so. Having walked the length and breadth of this Island in my youth I know how cars affect pedestrians.

  • @zivkovicable Your views seem a little jaded by your town life if you don't mind me saying so. Moving into the countryside would do you a world of good.

Since you mention pedestrians I would also like to mention the disgusting and dangerous anti pedestrian attitude shown by some Bristol cyclists. (I travel into Bristol by train and walk when I'm there on the rare occasions I need something from Bristol.) From what I've seen some of these cyclists are seriously mentally ill. Any views on that?

  • @underterraingrunter You certainly make a lot of assumptions about me without any evidence to back them up. Jaded? You're were the one to say you were pissed off. I live in the country, have children, have a driving licence.

Your biggest false assumption however is that Bristol cyclists are dangerous, disgusting & mental. There have been just two pedestrian deaths in the UK attributable to cyclists in ten years. None in Bristol, where deaths on the road run at about 15 a year.

    Chill out.

  • get on the fucking footpath you bike riding fuckwit

  • @honeststu99

Australian? Well, here in the UK cycling on the footpath is illegal, that's why we cycle on the roads in this country.

  • @kmcyc The police dont take any notice of path riding now. i ride on the path when theres lots of traffic.

  • @LHB2311 How does that work out for pedestrians? Do you realise the problems cyclists have with cars are very similar to the problems elderly pedestrians and parents with small children have with pavement riding cyclists? Do you view them as lesser beings the same way many motorist obviously view cyclists?

I'm probably a lot older than you and I've learnt that you never know what a stranger is capable of. Take care you don't offend a nutter with a sharp knife.

  • @underterraingrunter are you replying to my comment aimed at the video owner? i like how most of the comments on here are yours only. your social life must be mega.

  • @LHB2311 This excellent cycling channel is a valuable contribution to road safety. If the individual responsible for this channel feels my comments don't help they are easily removed. There is a personal message service for comments that are not intended to be part of the public forum. You've said you ride on the pavement because the revenue collectors don't try to stop you. I'm asking if you've considered the welfare of vulnerable pedestrians. Some pedestrians will take defensive action.

  • @underterraingrunter haha revenue collectors. i do think about pedestrians when im on the path, and i dont ride fast on pavements, literally just a bit faster than walking speed. and if i do see an old lady or old gentleman, or a pram or anything/anyone who could get upset/scared at a cyclist coming towards them, i hop off and walk it past them or i go onto the road if theres not a chav in a vauxhall corsa coming at 60mph right at me.

  • @kmcyc It's illegal here in Australia too... Honeststu99 is just an idiot

  • @kmcyc @honeststu99 An Australian maybe but still an idiot. Can't ride on the footpath here either.

  • @kmcyc it's illegal in australia too above the age of 12, actually. it's just that nobody follows or enforces that stupid crazy fucking law anywhere except for tasmania and queensland

  • @honeststu99 its called a FOOTpath and a sideWALK for a reason smart man

  • @honeststu99 Douchebag. Time to grow up.

  • 0:08 overtaking on a Zebra Crossing... Tut Tut...

  • I hope this "advanced driver" gets a call up from the Police.

  • He's that advanced a driver,he stops on double yellows,lol.

  • Many of the films in this helmetcam genre encourage me to avoid using my bike at all, because I don't want to wind up dead. I'm thankful we're allowed to use the pavements in Warsaw.

  • G ZEEEE G are you American .

  • you selfish idiot - provoking car drivers with you idiotic manoeuvres - you are VILE!

  • Mate it will get you, Try to avoid situations not create them

  • You ride you bike like a twat and seem to go looking for trouble.

  • 1:14 lol the darlecks are c0omming

  • who is the bigger cunt hard to tell

  • You just lost time by talking to him

  • @RaskVousSalue

Perhaps so but I wasn't about to head off down a side street and allow him to follow me. There was clearly going to be a confrontation and so I chose to have it there and then, right on the main road where there would be plenty of witnesses. And at least I was able to explain my view of the road to him. Apparently even though he claimed to be an advanced driver, he didn't know why cyclists position themselves in the centre of the lane sometimes.

  • @skinnman1

A big difference when a car nearly hits you in your car is that your car will be the crumple zone and you will step out of the bent up vehicle without injury. On a bike, you're the crumple zone. 1st overtake was pointless, my immediate pass shows this. When the road is too narrow or you cannot see far enough ahead, like on a narrow humpbacked bridge or by a pedestrian island for example, don't try to pass. And don't ignore right turn signals, as the driver did here.

  • its not every driver i give cyclists a lot of space so i dont get involved in this sort of thing

  • @kmcyc

Sorry to be pedantic but I think you meant defused rather than diffused

  • Some of the comments here say more about people's (lack of) observation skills than anything else.

  • @ASHYCK2K

What on earth for? I wasn't happy with his driving sure but I was able to explain my reasons to him in a way that he understood. He might drive more sensibly nowadays.

  • @ASHYCK2K At what point has your perception of the bloke's ethnicity got anything to do with a justification to hit him?

  • @ASHYCK2K Are you stupid? Before you come to YouTube and start going on one with your keyboard, how about you get a decent level of education. Stop stereotyping people just because they have some form of headgear; I don't know the guy in red but I can tell you that he's Sikh based on the fact he is wearing a TURBAN (look it up).

  • @ASHYCK2K what the hell for? just becuase the guy is of a different culture than you or anybody else. what and why exactly should anybody just smack any person of culture just becuase they are different. thats just you being a rascist and a danger to everybody.

  • i live in romford :)

  • stupid cyclist. If it isn't clear to move you shouldn't move.

If i was indicating in a car and was being overtaken I would abort the turn, I would not turn into the car and claim it was the other guy's fault.

He wound you up by driving too close at the start of the video, then you wind him up by overtaking him and cycling in the middle of the road (with whatever lame excuses you have for "owning" the road).

Calm down a bit when you're cycling and don't antagonise other road users.

  • @Ruperttube

I did not turn into the car and I did not claim it was his fault. What I did was remind him what a right turn hand signal looks like. I was then lucky enough to explain the whole piece to him and he was able to take it all in and understand the road from another user's point of view. I do not set out to antagonise other road users but I do expect the courtesy of them respecting my safety as well as theirs.

  • @Ruperttube Whatever the fine points of conduct - taking primary position is a move that is there for cyclists SAFETY, not convenience. Most motorists are doing their stuff out of convenience, ultimately. The least they can do is not make cyclists feel like they're about to die, for no good reason. Very hard to stay cool with the sheer number of crap drivers around, mate. Safe roads to you and all.

  • @Ruperttube ...well said..agreed

  • @Ruperttube the driver didnt indicate AT ALL, the driver tried to knock the guy off his bike durign the section of the road and alsowhen the cyclist stopped. the ownign the road were the parts where it would have been unsafe and infact ILLEGAL for any other vehicle to overtake.

  • advanced dementia driving license !

  • I would have done exactly what you did. overtaken him and stayed in the primary position.

One thing I do is that I hate confrontations when the driver is being agressive. If the driver passes me closely then I will have a little word with him to give me more room next time, but if the driver is trying to knock me off then I will just avoid them and not let them hit me or have a chance.

  • @monkeysnutscom

I dislike confrontations too but as I knew I was about to head off down a side road and I also knew this driver was going to follow me to stop and "have a chat", I made the choice to stop there and then, while still in full view of passers by on the main road, where it would be safer all round.

  • @kmcyc Yes, if there is going to be a confrontation you need witnesses to what he is doing.

  • @monkeysnutscom

Witnesses are good to have, as is the camera, which is why I point it out ASAP when this sort of thing happens. Folks behave slightly better when they know they're being filmed.

  • @kmcyc Incident like this is the main reason why I have got a camera, so things can be reported and you actually have evidence, not just word of mouth.

  • @monkeysnutscom

Yep, same here. Had an unfortunate incident when a pedestrian stepped out and I hit them at 20 mph. We both got injured but I was able to get up, while she was still laying in the road, not having the benefit of a crash helmet. The police investigation was based on CCTV footage as all the witnesses kinda disappeared when the time came. The outcome: no further action, not in the public interest but a worrying 4 months wait.

  • @kmcyc Well lukily I have never had an incident that bad but I have had a few incidents where cars have gone into me (didnt have my camera then). Its good to have the knowledge that whatever happens is caught in camera

  • @monkeysnutscom

Yes, it's a sad fact of life that our roads are so full of traffic that from time to time, we all have a close call of some sort or other. Hope the camera works out for you and that you don't need to use it for the purpose for which you bought it. Stay safe.

  • @kmcyc Thanks, I am only uploading the really bad vids of drivers now as my uploading limit is 40Mb and I uploaded 800Mb in just 3 days!

  • @monkeysnutscom

Ooops! Time to change ISP perhaps...? ;)

  • @kmcyc haha too much faff...

  • lol just looks like 2 very sad children to me, the cyclist had the close encounter on the video so why did he need to harass the driver??? get a life and just let it go man or your just end up dead!!

  • @balf1111117373

The driver in question was going to stop whatever I did next. Ordinarily he would not have turned into the side street. As that's where I was heading and not knowing what was coming next, I chose to stop near the main road where there would be plenty of witnesses just in case. And I'm glad to say that I at least had a chance to explain a cyclist's view of the road to an "Advanced" driver. Perhaps he learned something, who knows?

  • A car weighs more than a bike. It's not worth "owning the road" if the car can just drive over you. Avoid all confrontations at all costs.

  • @BikerCheetah

I am aware of the weight difference but fully disagree with your avoiding confrontations at all costs comment. If cyclists automatically jump out of the way of motorists, it does nothing to inform drivers that cyclists have as much right to use the public roads as they do. Sure this video goes on to show how a debate ensues but I hope it also shows how I was able to reason with the driver, who may have learned something that day.

  • When the driver drove away at the end he didn't indicate!

  • @ruam2

Oh wow! I never spotted that before and him being an advanced driver and all...! LOL, thanks for pointing that out!

  • Wow, how civil and with sound reasoning your discussion goes down. In the US it would have gone a little differently.

  • @zigzigerblat

Thanks and sorry to hear it would be so different over there. I don't like having these discussions but when it is inevitable that the driver is going to pull over for "words" never swear at them (no matter how much you may want to) and always begin with a disarming comment, such as calling them a "friend". You don't often get a chance to provide a driver with a cyclist's view of the road but I got the feeling that this bloke understood at least some of what I said.

  • @kmcyc I am about to buy my first real cycle as an adult (haven't ridden since my bmx in the 80's). I have been watching a lot of vids on youtube and I am a little scared. There are so many videos from all around the world of motorists harassing or trying to run over cyclists. The one in Brazil being the worst of course.

    That is some good advise.

I have heard that some cyclists carry billy clubs to whack mirrors.

  • @zigzigerblat

Good for you! Take it easy to begin with and build up the distance, speed will come too. Ride sensibly, you drive I presume, so you know what a driver cannot see, where a driver's blind spots are. Don't ride there!

You hear all sorts of stories about cyclists carrying bats and clubs etc but I've yet to see one.

  • @kmcyc I bought it. A 90's lotus for $150. I am loving it. I got out there in traffic a little. I noticed that sometimes you want to be on the side of the road out of the way and sometimes it makes sense to take up a lane. I am just placing myself in the perspective of the driver.

I always hate when people ride in blind spots (car or bike). I will hit the brakes (in my car) just to get them out of that zone.

  • @zigzigerblat

Well done, keep it up! Sounds like you're getting the hang of it already.

Btw, not sure about your brake-testing tactic. Riders often draft behind other bikes or even vehicles, it's an energy saving technique which allows you to ride that much faster. You never know, now you're on 2 wheels as well, a driver may do this to you and I'll bet you won't appreciate it. Live and let live mate.

  • @kmcyc When a car is in my blind spot, they are not directly behind me. They are diagonal to the corner of my car. So I do not break check them. Rather, I basically allow them to shoot forward and I pull in behind them so they no longer have an option to ride in my blind spot.

I think some drivers actually try to ride in blind spots, because I have had people fight to stay in my blind spot. I would definitely not want to allow a cyclist to ride in my blind spot, for their safety.

  • @zigzigerblat Get yourself a nice heavy metal pump and strap it to your frame. Useful for flat tyres, and giving naughty cars a tickle

  • @gutgutgutgut How about a CO2 tank with a pneumatic cattle culler like the guy in No Country for Old Men. LOL Just joking.

  • lol does the bloke in the black top know u guys, or is he just waiting for something to kick off? :P

  • @TheBrux100

I never had any idea who that fella was. I knew he was there of course but I could not be certain who's side he was going to come in on if he did. Perhaps he just enjoyed the spectacle? He seemed to wander off when he couldn't stop himself from laughing any more...

  • @kmcyc in any case, you handled it in the best way :)

  • @TheBrux100

Thanks! No point in losing my temper, he'd already done that... ;) These moments are an opportunity to share our view of the road. I hope my "advanced driver" friend learned something that day.

  • He looks like a frigging idiot, The hutchback of figging britain, look at him, he looks like tosser by the way he dress's.

  • Just to summarize for those without the time to watch the whole thing: an angry exchange quickly clams down with mutual compliments then the turban guy asks if the cyclist would like to go back to his flat for some gay sex where the film ends.

  • mate... touching a car in that manner = asking for serious trouble, that doesn't even require a road rage situation.

  • If he was in such a hurry to get past, why then spend 5 mins arguing. Clowns like him should stick to a Nissan Micra.

  • he parked his land barge on double yellow lines and he apparently has an advanced driving licence hmmm

  • An excellent example of an advanced driver :-)

  • Wow I can't watch all this, you just seem to be shouting him down while you hide behind the camera

  • @AnotherCopierOfM13

Hmm, perhaps we were talking across each other initially but if you watch to the end you'll see we settle down to a polite exchange of views (his swearing excepted) and eventually reach agreement, shake hands and wish each other well.

  • I'm amazed that you managed not to deck him, after the attempts he'd made to wipe you out with his truck.

He almost certainly committed enough offences in that short distance to earn all 12 points and a ban.

Not to mention an ASBO for his subsequent behaviour.

  • Stupid hunch back prick... also all this while he is parking illegally.

  • bit of a waste of time talking to this 'advanced' driver lol

  • Sounds like the first time he saw you was you overtaking him back at the crossing from what he said, not that he'd just done similar. I'm glad it stayed, relatively, calm.

  • I'm glad it ended well.

Road rage is controlled by the caveman part of the brain.

  • for such a small man, he has quite an ego. well done for staying calm

  • what a frightening little man, i hope he thinks a little more when he drives now.

  • Love the bloke who walked off because he couldn't keep a straight face.

  • @mrcellophane99

:) Yeah he amused me as well. Initially I was glad he was there although I couldn't help but wonder who's side he would leap to if it came to that. The fact that he couldn't stop smirking was killing me inside though...

  • well done on keeping clam and showing the error of his driving

  • Your shoulder check and right-turn signal - 0:37.

    His overtake - 0:40.

    I think he's talking bollocks!

Still, good of him to acknowledge that he's going to give you more room.

  • LoL

  • LMAO 'You mean i slowed down on an incline?' HAHAHA

He says you didn't look, but you did, you possibly could have looked more but as you say, you know where he is!

  • @gaz545

Yes at times it was hard to keep a straight face. One of my favourite comments was "I'm a motorist, I have to overtake" another was when he tried to explain he was an Advanced Driver. All in all though, I was glad that it ended well.

  • @kmcyc hah gaz - that was my fave bit too!

  • 0:53 skid noises (braking/wheel spin)?

Almost feels like you got your point across with regards to primary etc hopefully it will last in his mind.

ADM should know about half of this stuff anyway (and I think most would display the ADM stickers they get in their packs).

  • @drsquirrel0

Hmm, not sure about the noise, think that's more likely wind in the mic.

We did seem to reach an understanding and as noted in the video, we shook hands rather than threw punches, so that's positive.

I have my doubts as to his advanced driving qualification though...

  • You're awesome.

  • @187Premises

Thanks but really I was just dealing with the inevitable discussion as calmly as possible. I knew I was going to get followed and I'd prefer to deal with it there and then, in a prominent location, rather than half-way down a side street. I hope he calmed down enough not to take it out on anyone else.
