  • Looks like he led with his shoulder to me

  • shows how tough he is to be able to catch that

  • clean hit

  • @Hanks47gmp agreed, clean hit, but maehl is fucking badass

  • @mooninites755 took it like a champ

  • Clean hit smh football has gone so soft

  • screw oregon

  • What a catch, true football player!

  • personal foul my ass. Typical clueless pac-10 officials.

  • popped right back up ? he tried to get up and then stumbled then got back up.... there was no flag needed there.

  • Im a diehard duck fan and that wasn't a cheap shot it was a good hit, he didn't lead with his head, glad jeff held onto it tho

  • bad call not a cheap shot

  • There was no "hat to hat". This was a squeaky clean hit. I like that they are trying to protect the players but it gets ridiculous sometimes.....like here.

  • I see he did lean with the shoulder but there still was helmet to helmet contact. a bang bang play really. It wasn't a dirty hit but i believe it was the right call at full speed and slowed down it's close but right still. The best part is that the Maehl man held on to the ball, stumbled getting up but then shook it off and was ready to go. That's a gritty WR. Most reviecers would have dropped that ball. That one tough guy catching the football. It's a shame he went undrafted.

  • @dboardman17: Impossible. At the angle he hit with his shoulder the only way the helmets could've hit was if his helmet was the size of a beach ball or his neck snapped.

  • if meahl got hit like that in highschool when he ran 2back, his pulling guard would have broken afalavas leg in the next play. no doubt in my mind.

  • im a maehl man fan, but this was clean..

  • duck fans let me get you straight if that happened to a beaver receiver u would talk shit about it like youre doing here so shut up

  • Afa Who?

  • Great Shot, Great Catch

  • as an oregon fan I saw this when it happened....there is no doubt in my mind it was a "clean" hit...

  • Afalava= douche bag

  • Dennis Dixon was 10 Thomas is 1 and masoli was 8 and 6 so I guess I'm a retard but who's the Qb?

  • Good effort by both players

  • lol at Maehl trying to get up after that hit. For sure a clean hit.

  • @Tyklein45 trying to get up? he popped right up and held onto the ball lol?

  • The only reason why he caught it is because when you die your muscles tense up.

  • @MikaeIe90 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @MikaeIe90 its called rigormortis.

  • @MikaeIe90 haha alright I'd like to see you hold on to that ball then

  • @MikaeIe90 Oregon > OS

  • I wasn't looking at first, then I turned my head, instantly saw the hit

I felt it in my soul

  • 100% clean. He drilled him with his shoulder. It's football, ladies.

  • @joey5picks He lead with his shoulder but the helmets touched penalty everytime.

  • Beavers are a feeble bunch. how was your bowl game this year?

  • Mad props to Maehl for holding on to that one, but that wasn't helmet to helmet. That was just a nice hit :) GO BEAVERS!

  • Jeff's a fucking boss

  • great hit

    great catch

not helmet to helmet, and if it was, who gives a fuck, its still a great hit.

no one was complaining about helmet to helmet hits before 5 years ago, so shut up

  • AL AFALAVA LAYED HIM OUT HAHAHAHAAHA HE TRIED TO GET UP AND STUMBLED HAHAHA AND IT WAS A LEAGAL HIT

  • great reciever after taking that his he was still able to hold on to the ball great reciever hope he does great in the nfl

  • Good hit, good catch. All other commentary is useless.

  • och

  • Jeff is THE toughest WR in college football. He made the catch, took the hit and got up. That's amazing

  • Yeah and look who made the catch and popped right back up, unharmed. I would like if any of you haters could even run through the middle of the defense and not shy away from contact. This is a much more impressive catch than a hit

  • Clean hit.

  • The catch makes him even more embarrassed

  • But the most impressive thing is that he still caught it,lol

  • this is my friends cousin jeff said he had no clue what had even happened when he got hit.

  • might wanna change the name on this video, it is definetly not a cheap shot.

  • Thats a clean hit Come on let the kids play

  • I am a Duck fan, and I will say this was a legal hit.

  • if u look at it there was no foyul phil knight just pays thereffs so yea

  • @essdubb1070 your an IDIOT. the Duck (JEFFREY MAEHL) is still in college... the leading reciever for the #2 ducks!!!

  • @Chimaira2689 And yet, all you can do is sit there and talk about how you proved your point? The only thing you proved is that you didn't know what the fuck you were talking about with sarcasm and the internet. And then when I call you out on it, suddenly it's a straw man? Whatever.

Reply if you like. I'm sure you will. You come off as that type of douche who has to claim everyone else needs to have the last word to justify his own need to do so.

  • @Chimaira2689 Here's the sequence of events.

    - You failed to read into the sarcasm in my post and responded.

    - I jabbed at you for not recognizing sarcasm

    - You claim "inflection and sarcasm is lost on the internet" and add a flame to try and 'prove' your point

    - I refute, conceding that inflection is lost, but not sarcasm.

    - You refute, claiming that the two go hand-in-hand.

    - I provide an example that disproves your point.

    - You change your mind, but try and act like it was your original idea.

  • @Chimaira2689 However, given the nature and timeliness of your response, it is implied that you meant that sarcasm could not exist without inflection. I mean, how else is someone supposed to take it when you use the term "Inflection and sarcasm go hand in hand my friend." as a response to "inflection is lost on the internet, sarcasm is not."?

Your point hasn't been proven, lest of all without a doubt.

tl;dr Quit acting retarded. Saying "I win cause I say so" only works for school bullies.

  • @Chimaira2689 So now they don't go hand-in-hand? Which is it there, sir? Do you believe that sarcasm cannot exist without inflection (as you originally claimed), or is sarcasm possible without it?

  • @Chimaira2689 Inflection and Sarcasm are not two parts of a whole. Sarcasm can be done without inflection. For Example:

"This is my genius son, who failed out of college."

There is no inflection there, but it is pretty clear that the statement is sarcastic in nature.

  • @Chimaira2689 Given Afalava's NFL career stats, my obvious nature as a Duck fan, and the fact that I referenced a former Duck who's actually making an impact on his team in the same statement, the sarcasm should have been implied.

While I concede that inflection is lost on the internet, sarcasm is not. It's not my fault you're too slow to piece together a simple puzzle.

    P.S. Sticks and stones.

  • @Chimaira2689 Congratulations, you win the Poe's Law Award for not recognizing sarcasm.

  • totally legal..very hard, but legal

  • @Clackergille Except for the part where he lowers his head and the tackle becomes a "spear".

  • The best part was he held onto it for a 1st down and popped right back up. What a champ.

  • @camhirtle Jeff is amazing!

  • @camhirtle Cant wait for the NFL version of this hit. Afalava will dominate maehl in the pros lmao

  • ur all missing the point..go ducks! and he popped back up like a true beast, the OSU guy just bitched the whole time.

  • How is that legal??? He led with his helmet and hit maehl in the helmet

  • Maehl is a GREAT COLLEGE PLAYER. Why does everyone think he will go pro? He's too small. Let's be honest, he is no Wes Welker. If anything he will only make a practice squad..IF

  • @VileVengeance look how big Larry Fitzgerald is...

  • woo looks like someone just got raped owww al afala is a beast

  • good hit, better catch

  • I love Jeff Maehl but this was a clean hit, Maehl got rocked

  • clean hit... nothing dirty here folks

  • clean

  • that was a clean hit

  • essdubb- he's not in the nfl cuz he's still in college dipshit

  • The point is that the play could have been made without the controversy and Afalava knows it and so do the rest of you. He wasn't going for the ball as he had his hands bunched up near his chest projecting his shoulder out to make an extremely hard hit with the desired result to knock the ball loose and prevent a catch and to hurt the reciever. The Helmet making virtually simultaneous contact wasn't intended though I'll agree with that.

  • @Leavon Well he's obviously going to try and knock the ball loose to prevent a catch. That's what his job is. I don't see how this hit is illegal in any way. He's leading with his shoulder and avoiding Maehl's helmet. Perfectly legal hit.

  • Fouts (the announcer) played for the U of O, and even he didn't think the hit was dirty. It was a nice play by the defense, a great job hanging on to the ball by the receiver, and as usual, a pathetic bit of officiating by a Pac 10 crew. How this can be the "League of Champions" with the worst officials in the country, I'll never know.

  • I've seen this hit in slow mo. It's absolutley clean. Afalava leads with the shoulder. to the receiver's shoulder. The receiver's head snaps forward and his facemask hits the side of Afalava's helmet after the shoulder contact. Not an easy call to make at full speed. .

  • @BBdaWolfy Apparently you and 16 other people miss the part where Afalava lowers his head as he goes in for the hit. That's why the penalty gets called.

    People are retarded sometimes.

  • @BBdaWolfy Your a fuckin retard if you think that was a "absolutely clean" hit.

  • lol... that was a nice hit ;) i think he did more then hit him off balance... that was just a lil love tap, idk why the duck went down???

  • Lol ore st was prolly expecting him to not get up lol but we gets up and walks away

  • This guy just got lit up plain and simple. What a crap call.

  • That's shit this is a contact sport. If you don't want too get hit go too Europe and play soccer

  • Cheap shot? Last time i checked football was a contact sport.

  • if people cant take the hit dont play fuckn football.. ur a pussy if u cant take the hit so leave football and join another profession. and the fuckn refs to football is all about hitting u fuckn asswholes

  • GO CUZN! Dnt worry bout them HATERZ! thtz all dey good for, HATING... They cnt handle, ahaaaa!!! LOVE you!

  • gotta agree with the refs on this one

  • It's a well known fact that Pac-10 officials are the worst in the nation. They've somehow ecclipsed whack officials sometime in the last decade.

  • cheap shot my fuckin ass. he lead with his shoulder you pussy. grow a pair.

  • i hate cheap shots especially by pussy ass WRs and pussy ass DBs

  • classic osu football.

  • Apparently Special Ed is hearing more than one "shoulder first" from the announcers.

And never mind that, on the final angle, the same announcer points out where the "hat to hat" contact was.

    Typical Beaver fan is fail.

  • gosh dangit its football

  • I'm a Duck fan....that's a somewhat clean hit. Afalava did almost everything in his power to try to lead with his shoulder but he didn't get down far enough. the crown of his helmet went right into Maehl's. i wouldn't call it a cheap shot at all...but i wouldn't say the refs were wrong either.

  • @eKriZZLe

In what angle did they hit?

The view from the endzone makes it look completely clear, that Al's shoulder was all that went into the receiver. If the helmets touched, its because the Duck's head snapped forward from the hit.

  • @tyberiksen you're missing the point of what i was saying. his right shoulder went into Maehl's left shoulder. that means the two helmets did hit. the fact that he put his head down and used the crown was the clincher for the refs.

my point is that the rule needs to be altered because it's nearly impossible to hit someone cleanly and have it be a good hit nowadays. i think it was a good hit but according to the rules, the refs had it right. which we both can agree is crap.

  • @eKriZZLe

Fair enough. That's consistent with my view: Al tucked his head forward (left of player), but from the refs view that would be seen as leading with his head. Back view cleared it up.

    Agreed.

  • What a bush call; this was totally legal. Maybe that's why Afalava is in the NFL and that Dusk isn't.

  • @essdubb1070 I'm pretty sure that he'd do just fine in the league. Plus "that duck" is still playing for Oregon.

  • @essdubb1070 also that "Dusk" is still playing in college, maybe that's why he's not in the nfl?

  • @essdubb1070 first of all jeff wasnt even eligable to go to the nfl he's only a junior right now u fool

  • @XxsiqneszxX He's a senior now actually

  • @essdubb1070 maehl was a sophmore at the time and decided to do the same thing as kristic and stay in school until his senior year, jerk, get your facts straight. that hit was legal from the helmet to helmet stand point, but it was targeting an unprotected reciever, which is a rule, so again, GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT!! even as a Duck (not dusk, omg) fan, i'll give kristic a 100% for effort.

  • @essdubb1070 wow check your facts, Jeffrey Maehl was only a freshmen in this game... which makes him a senior this year. So of course he isn't in the NFL.

  • @essdubb1070 that "duck" is the best receiver in the pac-10 on a national championship-material team this year. you may be right about it being shoulder to shoulder though

  • Comment removed

  • @essdubb1070 That Duck is still at Oregon you fucking dumbass

  • @essdubb1070 that Dusk is still in college

  • @essdubb1070 That Dusk is still in college football tearing it up. And Alfalfa is not in the NFL. Good catch for a little freshman at the time.

  • @flshmastrj He's a free agent... so technically, yes he is in the NFL. Even if he is never signed again, he still put in time for the Bears.

  • @essdubb1070 That Duck is tearing it up as the top WR in the Pac-10 right now.

And Afalava has an outstanding NFL resume underneath him. Too bad he can't be a factor for his team like Patrick Chung has been.

  • @essdubb1070 Ummmm well hes not in the NFL because he is still kicking ASS at Oregon!

  • @essdubb1070-well actually that Duck is currently a senior and starting WR for the Ducks, and he is arguably the best receiver in the Pac-10. Does that answer your question why that Duck isn't in the NFL?

  • hey Dumb shit JEFFREY MAEHL was a freshman that year and is a senior now so you'll be seeing him in the nfl@essdubb1070

  • @essdubb1070 dude, that "duck" Jeff Maehl is still in College. Of course he's not in the NFL. Get your facts right.

  • @essdubb1070, agree with you on the clean hit & a great catch. Maehl will be joining Afalava in the NFL by and by. Meanwhile, watch your spelling!

    & Merry Christmas... Go Ducks!

  • @essdubb1070 That "dusk" (I assume you mean Duck) isn't in the NFL because he is still a student at U of O...

  • @essdubb1070 dude,he's still in college and beastin it up there, btw, has Afalava done anything good in the nfl?idts

  • @essdubb1070 why are you calling Maehl soft? he held onto the ball despite the hit. Typical Oregon hater

  • @essdubb1070 Dude, He was a junior at the time, he wanted more stats in college lol. Dont try that biased beaver shit.

  • @essdubb1070 lol that's cuz that duck is still in college playing for a national championship.

  • @essdubb1070 dumbass...maehl was a freshmen at the time. what has afalava done in the NFL? maehl is still in college making his mark, tearing it up in national championships, winning conferences, leading the conference is receiving and going undefeated. eat a dick DUMBASS

  • @essdubb1070

he will be in the nfl

  • @essdubb1070 that "dusk" is on his way big dawg... an maehl said ill catch that bitch anyways "lay your best hit on me pussy:

  • clean hit

  • wat a bullshit call they hatin on the uso

  • @pepseli58 osu dude

  • good hit, hope he works out in his second year with da bears

  • @jdjsd15141086 haha u most of been an offensive player who got his shit lit up when u played cause for us defensive guys, thats called a nice hit

  • @jdjsd15141086 First off you need to look up the definition of pussy. Second off This is football and when you have the ball, off balance or not defenders are taught to fucking kill. This D back did just that and he celebrated his hard nose fucking hit. Should this D back wait for the WR to get balance then hit him? Didnt think so idiot. Should D backs not celebrate big hits? Didnt think so idiot. Helmet to helmet is another gay rule, this is football.

  • @jdjsd15141086 when you completely destroy someone, however it may be, you tend to think that

  • HELMET TO HELMET DUMB FUCKS!! LOL

  • How is it a cheap shot if he is leading with his shoulder??? CLEAN. GO BEAVS.

  • ow that hurt..

  • Thats a penaly he lead with his shoulder thats called getting jacked up great hit.

  • im a duck fan. thats just a great hit and an even better catch

  • got his shyte BLASTED!!!!!!!!!!!

  • that a boy way to kill some duck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • It's football. How in the hell can that be a cheap shot? Yeah, Afalava is capable of aiming the specific part of his helmet at a specific part of his opponent and top speed....ok....retard.

  • @jtuds Every other safety can do that and make a clean play. Why Afalava cannot, I will never know.

  • @Bohannan55 ncaa*

  • i dunno about "cheap shot" but there def was accidental helmet-to-helmet contact

  • Ha.. Where is the cheap shot?

  • thats not a catch

  • Man. I haven't watched this in a while. Roper sure hung him out to dry on that one.

  • @TSxUCEHADOUKEN I hear ya. Still, I don't think I ever said it wasn't a good hit. You don't think with hands like that over the middle that Maehl could make it in the NFL?

  • I dont know about football elsewhere in the world but im samoan and we live for the helmet to helmet contact..and dumb call because he went in shoulder first.

  • suck theat jeff mahel go beaves

  • @TSxUCEHADOUKEN Wow, it's amazing what a stir my comment is causing. I guess I should admit that deep down I don't care about any of this "you couldn't make that hit" crap. Yes it was a killer hit! I'm not saying it wasn't or that I could even dream of tackling like that. What really matters is that I am a Duck for life and I love that we've crushed the Beaver's Rose Bowl hopes two years in a row!

  • ds video go hard aha

  • How could this be called helmet to helmet, neither players helmets were involved in this hit. It was Al's shoulder to Maehl's chest/shoulder area? Clean hit all the way! Fuck the Pac 10 ref's!

  • the was clean he lead with his shoulder

  • Did he die?

  • clean hit

  • how is that a cheap shot? nothing illegal there...thats football..nature of the beast

  • layed out!!stupid palangi!!haha!

  • that was def NOT a cheap shot, there was no helmet to helmet, terrible call by the offical

  • Need to change the title; THAT WAS NOT A CHEAP SHOT!!! That's the NCAA following the bullshit rules the NFL has put in place for the sake of "protecting a defenseless player." The NFL is ruining American football....it's a collision sport! If u ain't man enough to take a hit, don't step on the damn field!

  • all i gotta say that was clean! he fuck the vajesus out of him!

  • but to the ref who threw the flag it looked like he was leading with his head

  • crfranchises1 your dumb shut the fuck dat hit was mean

  • Bad call but even worst tackle, whats up with kids looking for the highlight reel shots these days. WRAP UP!

  • @crfranchises1: That wasn't a "tackle", it was a "hit." Laying the hit or wood or smack or whatever u wanna call it, emphasizes "imposing ur will" or letting the other team know, we came to knock ur ass out. That receiver know has "alligator arms" and will think twice when required to run his route through the middle again. It's part of the mental side, but yes, kids don't wrap anymore, they wanna be Sportscenter too, and not leave it to the skill players.

  • just surprised he wasnt knocked out from that geezus

  • All you guys are talking about how great the hit was, but even without the penalty he made a great catch for a first down. Obviously Afalava can't hit hard enough!

  • @dancameronw i like how u guys say the hit wasnt hard. no diss but id like to see you take a hit like that
