Maybe you should tell the mod maker of enhanced combat what you liked and didn't like about his refinement of the mod. I'm sure s/he could use the feedback.

Mind you, I think Enhanced Combat certainly has a bigger chance of getting finished than Universe at War ever will.

Indeed.

the reason why i prefer this version is mostly because it's visually more color full, with over sized photon lazer and explosions. That make good looking videos. While the Enhanced combat seem to aim for more "realism" with the result of a less eye candy experience. The range of the fights are also much wider in enhanced combat, while that's good for gameplay, it's less good looking in videos.

EC don't really need improvement, it's just that for videos Universe at war look better.

Why do people watch Science Fiction movies / shows / games and talk about realism?

I mean seriously, 99.999 percent of the things we see on these shows is wholly unrealistic, even by scientific standards, so why even debate? 99.999 percent of that 99.9999 percent are the standard Sci-Fi tropes and literary devices that we see in all science fiction.

The keyword there is "literary" - like Captain Ahab on his ship - the "science" used is merely a vehicle to tell a story.

Weird ow in so much sci-fi universes, the ships have strange shapes. I'm pretty sure a realistic ship would have a very rectangular and not very original form, instead of those who have tiny and vulnerable lines exposed, so one hit on it would screw the whole ship.

you would get explosions on the ships because there is oxygen and fuel and things that would go boom

The sound I can take but the camera shaking is too much. In reality, watching a battle in space would be eerily silent excempt for people talking between ships.

But that camera shaking is so damn annoying! In films of air battles the camera wouldn't shake, there is even less justification in space. Its absurd!

Ditto that. Probably the best description of space combat was in the Aliens Colonial Marines Manual. It went something like "it's all about who spots who first". Very short and haphazard, because there are no hills to duck down behind and once a magnetically accelerated round hits the hull the ship is pretty much screwed. The second best description is, imho, in Mass Effect. Pretty much the same thing except for kinetic barriers. Sorry for the nerdyness : )

yeah except for the fact that the description of space combat depends heavily on what technologies are developed and what the limits on them are

depending on technologies we could be battling for days right next to each other or for half a second several galaxies away or vice versa

even in this day an age we still fight with knifes and fist and what ever blunt objects are within arms reach even though we have missiles that can fly threw windows miles away

the fact is that it won't be simple
