It's just understanding of his moves. SRK grants some invincibility properties in the opening frames. Since it was a meaty air hado, he counted on that. Even if he traded, he probably could have gotten the ultra off anyway. Plus Akuma has a good amount of recovery frames when he lands from air hado, leaving him temporarily vulnerable.

So you've never HP SRKed someone who jumps in on you with HP or HK and didn't take any damage? If you didn't have any invincibility, you would at least trade. I guess the only way for it to make complete sense it to look at the frame-by-frame hitboxes.
I always use EX srk in those cases, which actually does go through the attack, HP srk def would not, im pretty sure daigo just somehow knew the air hado would whiff
sanford dropped some crucial combos and did raging demon in some bad spots. all it takes is 1 traded LP DP and you eat ultra. save the raging demon when you have almost a full bar! use focus dash back to get more damage before using it.

@monkeypower okay say you use a move with superior frame advantage over someone who uses a weaker move and say that person is in the air doing that move on you but u hit them with a superior frame advantage move. well in ssf4, moves tend to trade alot even if a move is less superior you are most likely to trade and in ssf4 no one can do their ultra after trade except ryu and only if you time right.

@monkeypower okay say you use a move with superior frame advantage over someone who uses a weaker move and say that person is in the air doing that move on you but u hit them with a superior frame advantage move. well in ssf4, moves tend to trade alot even if a move is less superior you are most likely to trade and in ssf4 no one can do their ultra after trade except ryu and only if you time right.

@XBUGMANX 3:52 in sf4 you can trade and still do ultra in sf4, they nerfed it in ssf4 but you can STILL do it with ryu in ssf4 if you time your ultra just right. Literally daigo status.

@XBUGMANX You can only do it in certain Instances and if you have the right timing for it.
No one can do trade ultra except for Ryu? Wtf? Sagat can, Balrog can, Dudley can, and so on and so on. You don't know what you are talking about.
Moves tend to trade alot? Yes if you play Ryu and can't time your uppercut right., that happens. Learn your timing maybe? Instead of blindly uppercutting and complaining.You do know that the pros in Sf4 trade on purpose in order to use the ultra right?

Sanford did very well in this set. Akuma's hard as fuck to use.. especially against a shoto. Ryu has the clear advantage in this matchup.

if you're going to go by tier lists, or watch high end play, watch the japanese.
sagat and ryu were the top tier of this game. akuma has decent options, but takes damage like a chipmunk. ryu has better priority, stamina, and more setups.
