on my satellite receiver's sked, "question period" is supposed to be broadcast in HD now, but i think i checked it a couple of sundays ago, and it still isn't...
makes me wonder why CTV, being the largest private broadcaster, isn't waaaay too keen in airing their news and current affairs programs (at least the national ones) in HD yet...
CFTO aired World Beat News from 6:30-7:30 at that time. As I recall they moved to 5:30-6:00 and 6:30-7:00 in 1988, and finally in 1991 they moved to 6:00-7:00. In 1987 the only stations in Toronto with local news at 6 were CITY and CBLT, not counting Global.
This techno intro for Question Period was used from 1984 to 1989. Tangy music!

The VO Intro is done by legendary Ottawa broadcaster Bill Luxton, he of "Willy & Floyd" fame, Margaret Trudeau's talk show, etc., etc.

Great video with great quality. BTW, did you have and use a Betamax Hi-Fi Stereo VCR to record these on?

Yep, the majority of these are from betamax tapes.

How'd you convert them to digital?
Your channel ROCKS, by the way...same with the WNED17 video channel. SO many memories.

Thanks! I use a WinTV card, highly recommended for saving the past from the future!

Question Period still airs, of course, now hosted by Craig Oliver and Jane Taber. I believe this open survived until CTV's big 1990 rebranding.

I think I've heard about this...how Toronto 6PM newscasts were not common during this era...when did CFTO achieve this normalcy.
