Ok, I understand why some of you are frustrated, I have AS as well. But can we give some help to her, she's at least trying to help her boyfriend with a disease that many of us are familiar with. As far as taking medication, I do not take any, however if it works for you and you haven't had problems with the side affects I'm glad. There are some affordable things you can take such as dietary supplements. I take HA (Hyaluronic Acid) (good for joints) as well as Omega 3, Vitamin D.
hello for everybody !! I have AS , I have been medicated with remicade with great advances , now I am with autohemoterapy with also great advances ! I am looking for people to chat with , in english , to learn the languaje , also for coment experiences about our AS , good luck for everybody in your lifes , I will be waiting for your mesage , bye, bye !!!!
Get good health insurance and get on Humira or Embral. Works very well for me. Also this is a bone and joint disease and does not effect your brain. I am 36 years old and have AS. I also have been a skateboarder since 1985. Take my advice get on good meds that work and stay active in some sport. The meds are very expensive so get a job that offers good health insurance this is very important! Don't give in to this disease you have 2 choices to give up or fight!
@kopingkiller Actually AS can affect you in other ways. I found out from the VA hospital that I am anemic because of low iron and it's very possible that it was caused because of the inflammation. It's a good idea to check your iron levels and for me I had a very bad problem with my short term memory, mental focus along with other problems and when I increased my iron, along with taking supplements, (Omega 3's, Vitamin D). Look into HA Hyaluranic Acid, good for joints also anti-inflammatory.
@robjlt Ok thanks for the info. I do get blood taken every 6 months i assume they are checking for iron and other things. I also have bad short term memory but might be from years of the sweet leaf :) So far the Humira is working pretty well for me, but I can definitly tell that Im not able to do things as easy as i could 10 years ago. Still skateboarding alot people think im crazy but whatever even most of the people i know that used to skate say that they are too old now i just laugh :)
Hey hey hey, slow down. you have the rest of your life with him if you choose to. He will NOT become brain dead unless you convince him that is how he will be, this AS thing does not effect your brain. It can make him paralyzed if it gets bad. My advise for you would be to support him and encourage him to do anything and everything to keep himself moving and active. Watch as many of these AS videos on here as he can, they are great and have alot of usefull info for him. good luck!
wtf you do NOT become brain dead OR paralized. this is pure bullshit. i have ankylosing spondylitis, yeah i am almost wheel chair bound but that is due to PAIN when i walk. get your facts strait. the only brain dead person here is you.
Lovely people, if you or anyone you know have any conditions related to autoimmune difficiency or rhumatoid disorders, there IS HOPE!!! DONT GIVE UP!!!! I have an awesome man to recommend you who may be able to help. He has helped THOUSANDS of people, and i'm shocked that so little people know abou him. People com eto see him from all over the world. He is in Atlanta Georgia. Visit his site and BELIEVE ME, he addresses the CAUSES of the disease and helps STOP THE BLEEDING so to speak.
It is so great that he had someone like you in his life. He will need you! Tell him to seek all types of treatment and to not think negative. I have had this disease since I was 15 and I am still here. I dont know what will happen tomorrow, but I have stopped worrying so much and living a bit more. Get him to move as much as he can and stay active. Anything he can do is worth doing. I had to make myself get up and move but it pays off in pain reduction. Best of luck to you and him. God Bless!
lol.. Baconsoda. I would agree with that one. I'll let my Doc know tomorrow. He is going to flip.. lol.. But really girl. It does not do that. Brain death comes to those who give up. If you know what I mean. Let em know he's not alone. and don't give up on em.
I think the "brain dead" information is a bit dramatic. I'm not a Dr. but I do have A.S. and I've never heard of that. Also, in this plea..she talks so fast that I don't even know what shes saying for most of it.
