  • How are you coaxing that brass lead out of the ESQ1, Are you using an expression pedal? I can't tell if your foot is on one or not but I really gotta have that vangelis horn bleeding out of my esq1! I beg you!!

  • Just wanted to say I love your work. Really great pieces.

  • Superfantastic this Music! In my prefer.

  • Like to drink a coffee on a 2nd earth somewhere.... :)

  • Impresionante, estos sonidos te trasladan a otro mundo.......una delicia para el oido, como me gustaria saber tocar asi los sintetizadores, gracias por compartirlo, un saludo desde España.

  • @bandidito Gracias :) and greetings from Ireland

  • really great, reminds me of Bladerunner as well!

  • This is beautiful.

  • i love saw trumpets ^^

  • He does need a little work, but I think it sounds pretty good. I do not know about it sounding anything near classic though.

I would say composers like Yasunori Mitsuda sound more classic (actually I think mitsuda sounds more celtic).

Yeah yeah I am a game music fanboy geek. But its some of the best music of our I day. Strictly my opinion of course XD

  • Thank you very much for this inspiring work. I hope to emulate your style as I learn more about synthesizers.

  • Jesus you are on here too. I did not know you like the same music as I, ick. I feel dirty now.

  • Can´t believe it ....Great WORK ! I make Music so long, but this is my Target, to play like you, sorry my English are not so good....

  • Original composition (NEEDS PRACTICE?????)

WTF? You wanna blow our brains out of its housing?

I really enjoy the way your work sounds... it's art! Simply beautiful...

  • Really nice sounds - classic;)

  • some where ..its like pink floyd

nice work ! i love this music

    thank you so much .

  • simply

    YOU ARE AWESOME

    ok.bye bye.=^,-,^=

  • awesome i like this kind of music

  • you have to do Ubik OST :D or the next mass effect haha.

  • So beautiful. That make me feel as the first time I Watched Blade Runner, I think it's a major influence for you.

  • Thankyou, yes Vangelis' bladerunner soundtrack , specifically "desolation path" was a big influence here.

  • Wow! This is great. I had put this video on my ipod and listened to it so many times. It is for the moment the best musicpeace i had heard in vangelis-Style. i am born in 1967 and so vangelis, jean-michel jarre, tangerine dream, robert schroeder and so on were also a great part of my life. Please do some more. You have a great fan here in germany. MP3 or AAC would be very nice to have from this. Thanks and please go on!!

  • Hi and thanks, that is a flattering and encouraging comment. You are more than welcome to have an mp3 of it, I will send you a link in the coming days.

  • Fantastic job mate, well done :)

  • Thankyou for the great comments, much appreciated :)!

  • Man oh man that sounds lovely, the Ensoniq honestly sounds gorgeus. Totaly reminds me of Vangelis

  • man you dont need pratice....

dude seriously your videos are freakin awesome....

are you a serious stoner?? cause I feel totally ripped when I listen to some of your stuff.....

I got a Roland RS-5 but it sucks compared to the Juno, where can I get one of them??

and what is that awesome horn lead type solo coming from? that sound really cuts to the core of me..

I look forward to more videos.....

  • cheers, the horn type leads are patches from my good old reliable Ensoniq EsQ 1 , I have tweaked them over the years. You can get Junos quite easily over the internet but I recommend the 6 or 60 as the 106 suffers from chip problems. Like everything analogue tho, they are getting more expensive. And no i'm not a stoner but often half pissed when i do these Vids...! take care

  • If I could only drop a track like this, no sequencing? Inspire me some more...

  • Bravo!!! Thank you very much!!! Peace!!!

  • Masterpiece

  • Hi Mick, jsut a simple question: the piano patch you used coming from the ESQ1, I know it's tweaked with the reverb and all that, but is it a standard preset? Or did you customized it? Grtz, Dave. :)By the way, check out a youtube video from 'gattobus' called 'Analog Blues', I think he did a great job there.. :)

  • this is the music that I love...

    awesome!

  • Your room is a dream for many of us...

... and you play with all your stuff with talent! Sound is excellent, excellent choice of the patches, great impro... Respect.

Thank you so much for sharing, I'm following your work, Sir ;)

  • Thanks, much appreciated!

  • Hi, I've just one question for you: how on earth did you achieve the ead piano sound with the 'after-effect of strings' that is so Vangelis-like-sounding? I GREATLY admire your work!!! :)

  • Hi there, using the Esq as a midi controller I can play an internal patch such as piano and layer it with strings from a different synth via midi.. By reducing the attack time of the string patch from the Juno G. it gives the effect. Also, I added a lot of reverb to the piano.

Most modern synths have presets with piano and strings pads but most of the time they sound very bland. I guess it's combining sound sources from 2 completely different synths give it more depth

  • Superb job..!!! The lead sounds coming from that ESQ 1 are simply amazing..!! Sounds very Vangelis like and has real feeling, an eerie, moody, atmospheric quality about it.I really love this type of instrumental music, so easy on the ears and relaxing to listen to.

  • really nice!

  • This is one of my favorite synth video's. Great job. Check out Creg Padilla & Skip Murphy playing Steller Nursery on Utube. They have an arsenal of analog synths and are very talanted also. Keep the video's comming I enjoy them very much.

  • Thanks mattsynth, yes i have seen stella nursery video, I would kill for their studio!

  • Excellent track :) Greetings from Poland.

  • Great sense for music. I always admired your works. Keep up the good work.

  • Calm music and great sound. We know you like what you are doing ,so keep up the good work and hope to have your own CD soon.

It is nice to be able to do what you are doing and find the right sound for the right state of mind.

    Thanking you.

    IAN DANA BOGDAN

    Ian Dana Bogdan

  • Thankyou Ian and dana for the kind words

  • Very cool sound, and a great piece, keep up the good work. :)

  • Reminds me alot of BladeRunner. Very Very VERY good job.

  • I got chills listening to that! Very deep (and cool)

  • thats a sweet setup you have, and good stuff

Have you heard of the yobi sing contest?

  • I was just wondering if all the backing parts are being driven by the Esq1's sequencer? Also how do you back up the Esq1's sequences? As a new owner of a Esq1 I can see you can save to tape, cartridge, or a Mirage(!)

  • theres no sequencing in this particular track, I just assigned different sounds to each track to make them more easily accessable. But to answer you're question, you can do a midi/sysex dump of sequencer information to cassette tape. The cartridges are only for patches i'm afraid. Check if you have extra internal sequencer memory storage, most ESQ's must have them by now.

  • I feel like i'm sitting on a cliff and the sea is crashing below.. watching the sunset eaten up by the horizon. BRILL!

  • -drools-

    that is AMAZING. wow...just woww.

  • Beautiful, very beautiful music and sounds. You should definitely make a CD album with the same compositions.

I would certainly purchase a copy as it has the qualities of vangelis etc

  • I agree with the CD - the music is fantastic. Why don't you have a recording contract already?????

  • G-O-O-S-E-B-U-M-B-S !!!!! For about two decades I've tried to make that kind of music...but never came close.

  • Really nice stuff! Great spatial sound. What is your reverb here? It has that old Lexicon 224 or PCM 70 sound.

Yes, a lot like older Vangelis or bits of TD as others noted, but nothing wrong with that at all.

I also fully agree with your comments on being able to play, and arrange, and shying away from purely computerized music.

  • Hi, the reverb is the cathedral reverb on the behringer mixer, mixed with a voice reverb on a Zoom multi effects unit. Both quite cheap but effective!

  • Thankyou! comments like that fuse my desire for this music

  • I am glad I am finding more music like this around youtube. I haven't had heard too much beyond tangerine dream, which is my favorite ambient/experimental band, if not the best band ever. I absoluetly love this. Keep on making this music, and I hope to hear much more.

  • Hi and thanks! I love T. Dream myself, and like them and other experimental/ambient/electronic artists from years ago I try to stay clear of moddern trappings like computers and software. Glad you liked it

  • very very nice !!!

You are the "clone" of Vangelis !!!

  • Absolutely amazing!

A beautiful ethereal piece - reminds me a lot of Vangelis, and you play and manage your synths as well as him, too!

    Awesome work!

  • Thankyou !

  • Awesome !!!

have you programmed some of the sound patches ?

  • Thanks, the ESQ patches were tweaked a bit, the juno 6 and 106 were created for this piece, MicroKorg is a default patch, as is the juno G

  • WOW! I want to here this again and again! so nice....so...sleep-like.

  • Great sounds, keep up the good work

  • Very nice keep up the good work!

  • This is terrific! I can see Mike is getting better and better! I'd be surprised if someone did'nt pick this up for a documentary or film, its very atmospheric! As a keyboard player, I'm in awe of the timing and control of space, I've only heard Vangelis do it this well before :)

  • Superb stuff, very tranquil... you might need more keyboards though. :)

  • Beautiful!

Are you able to give a brief expose on which instruments are producing which sounds?

e.g. floaty ambient by synth X

    Fat bass by synth Y

    & so on...

So that we get an idea of what each synth there is good at?

    Many thanks

  • no problem. The Ensoniq ESQ1 is doing 3 sounds, electric piano, abd the 2 "CS80" type leads. The Korg X5 is doing the "soft choir" , Microkorg is making the sweeping sounds, Juno 106 the twinkly bit, Juno 6 the deep bass and the Juno G is doing the string backing to the piano, it's a patch called "voyager", also the rich synth pad.

  • This is one of the best things I have heard in a while. The composition is phenomenal, and really brings back a sound that needs some contemporary attention. Thanks for the excellent video.

  • you are very welcome , thankyou!

  • Amazing sounds ang great composition!!!

One of the best I've ever heard on Youtube...

You really know how to use your keyboards.

    Really great...

    You have my respect.

  • lovely track , delicate , light and a wondefull soundscape ,

if you ever want your esq to have a juno makeover let me know

    jeff : )

  • excellent work mick really enjoyed esp Vangellis cover story, Now i know what the racket was from your attic well done paddy

  • WOW!!! What an awesome improvisation man. As the big Vangelis fan I am, I have to say that your track is much better that some of his lastest works. You recover most of his greatest sounds and play them really well, fitting this classic atmosphere he used to do in his golden age. I hope to do such improvisations someday... Excellent!!

  • I love it! As a non-musician, I enjoy seeing how you manage all those keyboards with such finesse. Thanks for the music.

  • Thankyou, a very nice comment! As the great man himself (vangelis) says " I don't think about it, if I think about it, it becomes something else" Well, something like that!

  • Yeah. Really nice work! Any way you'd want to share some of those beautiful esq-1 patches with me via sysex dump? Send me a message if so.

  • absolutely amazing! the overall sound, the individual patches and the atmoshpere

  • Cheers!
