No, poorchristopher, it is you who are gravely mistaken. Catholics do not worship Mary at all, yet without her saying "yes" to the immaculate conception, we would not have our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ DIE for us on the cross. Catholics HONOR Mary as the mother of Christ(God), and so does Christ. After all, the 5th Commandment does say to honor your father and mother, right? Even Martin Luther, the father of the Reformation, honored Mary as Catholics do. Do not be mistaken again. Thanks! :-)

It's a common misconception that Our Lady is worshipped and idolised by Catholics. She isn't at all, because that would be a deliberate breach of the 1st Commandment. She is only 'honoured' by us as the Holy Mother, immaculate and free from original sin from her conception. We pray to her and ask her help as a sign of respect for what she undertook. The 'Hail Mary' is one of many devotions that illustrate this.

Hailing the virgin is only a salutation, it is not a form of worship or idolisation. we salute her as the holy mother, she isn't a 'mediator' because the mediator is Christ.

Take the wedding in Cana when the wine ran dry. Mary asked Jesus if he could help, but she didn't need to because He already knew being that He knows and sees all. But Mary still interceded on behalf of the other guests. Believe me, read what the Catholic Church teaches about Mary. We do not worship or idolise her.
