Well, the explosion at the end is just clever editting, but this was still an absolute triumph for Top Gear. If they really did this in two weeks, as they claim, then is certainly shows what you can do when you pull out all the stops and make safety a tertiary concern on a limited budget.
I say limited budget... for a SPACE PROGRAMME it's a limited budget, I shudder to think how Top Gear compares to other TV show's budgets.
@maggotspeacy LOL!! Jezza would be fighting Capt. Slow every step of the way!! He'd accuse both him and Hammster of lacking style and would demand something else be used. Then, they'd fight over the engine design. Then, he'll bankrupt them by blowing the budget on unnecessary things. Finally, the other two will murder him out of pure frustration because, at the rate he's going, the shuttle will never be built! Good thing they kept Jezza out of the project!!
This is one of the best top gear episodes i have ever seen- the preparation must have been immense- my favorite part is the You Only Live Twice song around 3:40- this is the same song that is used when the "evil" space capsule captures the American Space Capsule in the movie-- great connection to this great episode--- thanks for posting
ANNOUNCER: 3, 2, 1...and LIFT-OFF! for the space shuttle Reliant, paving the way for the shuttles of tomorrow!
SHUTTLE COMMANDER: Houston, roll program. (Shuttle does a 180 degree turn in the air as it points itself on a course to the ISS, looking like a pig piggybacking on a sausage-shaped rocket in the process.)
HOUSTON LAUNCH SUPERVISOR: Roger, roll...Reliant....Robin. (Snickers are heard over the radio crackle.)
Greatest episode of Top Gear ever
