  • their timing is unbelievable. 4 virtuosos -- for selfish reasons I wish they never stopped. Why can't there be any modern fusion bands even attempting this?

  • MY GOD!

  • Al di is sooo stiff. But a damn good player, I love this band.

  • Great upload. Saw them play this live in 81. Great concert.

  • I saw this tour at the Dorthy Chandler Pavillion, they brought Stevie Wonder up on stage to jam with them. This and Mahavishnu Orchestra Visions of the Emerald Beyond tour, the two greatest fusions groups ever.

  • In the entire history of Humans playing music, it simply doesn't get any better than this!

  • Once saw a concert in NYC in the 70s where Chick and Herbie Hancock

played on dueling Grand pianos - heaven must sound something like that

  • Some accused Al Dimeola of fraud in recording when his solo was 1st played - cuz no one ever heard 64th notes so crisp and clean - but these were folks that didnt realize - he was TACHING guitar at Berkley at 18!

  • simply the most virtuoso song ever recorded.....Four of the gr8est Musicians to ever play instruments....together...music can truly be magical

  • j'adore.

  • Best song ever written.

  • This video gets me going! utter brilliance!

  • 7 DISLIKES???

  • Maybe the best piece of music ever by the over all best band`s best Album !

  • Sick band of legendary proportions!

  • the first time i saw these great musian,s was in. central park [n 1970,s for shaffer music fest the ticket cost just 4$ what a wonderful time.that was.wine poch and all,

  • Saw them in 76. Alphonse Mouzon, doing his power-drummer double bass thing, was with them. Roy Ayers too.

Anyway, Lenny White did Alphonse's double bassdrum solo with one foot. Mr Mouzon had his mind transpalnted watching from stage left. Both great drummers, just that Lenny was a freak.

  • Just saw them last night in Boca Raton Florida minus Al but with Jean Luc and it was fantastic. It was an experience that you should not miss!

  • @puppylovers37 was there , was great, glad you enjoyed as well.

  • Do you know what I would do to see Al Di Meola one time in my life?

  • I bought this album back in '76 or '77(9th grade) just because I thought that the album cover was cool- man did I get lucky!

  • @MrBillydoo I'm going to the 9th grade tomorrow!!

  • @n64wilbert Keep an open mind kid, don't believe everything that they teach you- some things you have to learn for yourself!

  • @MrBillydoo I corrected many of my Teacher's lessons!!

  • @MrBillydoo Is this moral was based of your experience at Secondary or High school!!

  • @n64wilbert Both!

  • I have that same ovation guitar so sickkk

  • Stanley looks like Julius 'Dr. J' Erving! Classic 70's vibe all around... The peak of fusion.

  • WOW!!

  • This is one of the pinacles in fusion!

amazing... I've seen them live a long time ago!

    LOVE RTF !!!

  • To jest po prostu magiczne

  • return2forever "dot com"

  • They are touring right now!!!

  • I was in college, and this was my kiss goodnight.1976 Howard U

  • I was in college, and this was my kiss goodnight.

  • IS THIS NOT THE MOST AWESOME RECORDING **EVER!!!

  • i like when stanley ditches his bow. lol. he's like, "peace out mofo!" lmao.

  • I still proudly own the LP.

  • The six dislikes were disappointed because they couldn't line dance to this song .

  • just saw return to forever iv last night at the syracuse jazzfest... chick corea, stanley clarke, lenny white, jean-luc ponty, frank gambale...amazing!

  • they should have left the obvious round of applause in this clip

  • I have discovered then became deeply interested in Fusion since I heard this music. It is a great pleasure to hear to Chick Corea's creativity

  • THANK YOU TO THOSE THAT MADE YOUTUBE POSSIBLE

The genius of Chick Corea and the joy of all the musicians shine in this clip.

  • I wrote this from the heart and feel every word of this sentiment ...to this day

  • THE BEST ALBUM EVER!!!!!

  • This is one of THE BEST ALBUMS of ALLTIME !!!

  • raging sick piano solo

  • The original Stanley Clark!! Major props.

  • Listening to the vinyl album right now and had to send overseas to my Lady! BraVO reminiscing the band!!!

  • I meant I love Chick Corea's style. The way his finger move up and down the piano like water droplets from glass is just amazing. Like most jazz pianist he can improvise which is a must for musicians.

  • I love Chick Corea's stour

  • Lenny White is one of my favorite drummers. His sound always gets my attention, so interesting, dynamic and tasteful.

  • I love the fact that all the instruments are the traditional acoustic version

  • IMHO This is the best line up of musicians in all of fusion history that were in one band at one single time... the only close second would be Steps Ahead

Check out Steps Ahead - Beruit

  • I saw them with this programm in 76 or 77 in Hamburg in the "Musikhalle". We were overwhelmed. A gang of "Paganinis"! Magic.

  • This album is in the TOP 100 of the recording industry.... simply aWSOME!!!!

  • Di Meola had few peers and perhaps just one superior — legend John McLaughlin, whose tommy-gun riffing with the Mahavishnu Orchestra on an EDS-1275 remains among the most staggering six-string every recorded.

  • @keo774 For jazz fusion, hell yes. I can however, probably name over a dozen technical death metal guitarists who nowadays are far beyond practically everyone besides there peers on the 6 string electric guitar. At least as far as fast and complex riffing goes. Everything else on the guitar is a vast and grey area, but I'm pretty sure death metal since the mid/late 90's is the upper echelon of riffage.

  • @ThaDeeStylee al and john totally own those "metal" players. these 2 guys dont need distortion to sound good. i'd like to listen to these metal guitarists play on acoustic...

  • @keo774 Chill brah, I thought we were only talking about riffs. No reason to be like that. Acoustic is nearly a different discipline, and you know that. All I'm saying is, if one of your main basic concerns is stylistic and extreme riffage... you're bound to be preeeetty good at it. I'm sure I can show you some music by the types of virtuous guitarists I was talking about that you'd at least respect musically. Perhaps you might momentarily enjoy it even. /watch?v=JOh89QFKJ8s

  • @ThaDeeStylee got it. i was talking about playing guitar in general, not only riffing. that's why we had a misunderstanding

  • I am so glad I saw them live in 76.

  • is stanley clarke just playing with a pickup?

  • Can you but not love music like this.asking?

  • I just saw Stanley tonight with Hiromi ,He still has it ,Maby more than ever . If you get the chance to see them , DO IT.

  • @jenko701 yea hes a nut

  • @jenko701 nice!

  • best jazz ensemble ever. chic correa's solo is insane

  • @thelongshot99 soooooo Agreeee!!!!!!!!!

  • best jazz ensemble ever.

  • i saw these guys at the troubador! we were in the alley waitlng to get in when a limo pulls up an out pops stevie wonder we yelled stevie an he nodded his head like he does an went in.anyway it was an amazing show we were standing right next to demiola an i swear he looked just like robert fripp.dressed all in black with cross on neck an black les paul, well being a crimson fan we razzed him pretty bad. also lenny was drenching us with sweat as he played what an animal!

  • Oh, Yeah.

  • before the glory that is you tube, i spent my youth imagining RTF razor editing their brains out with piles of Romantic Warrior tape on the floor and tacked to the wall, only to be shamed into realizing I grossly underestimated the capability of the human mind to actually pull off a composition such as this---in REAL TIME. Typically, all 4 of these guys were supposed to go insane or jump off bridges in the 80's, unable to handle the level of genius God had imparted unto them.

  • SHREDDING ON ACOUSTIC. AL DI MELOA FTW!

  • Remember buying this album in 11th grade. No, the songs never left my memory, so much that I bought it on CD years later. Too bad jazz composers con't write music like this anymore, at least not that I am aware.

  • I was blown away by ALL of these guys when I saw them live back in the 70's.... but I'd have to say Lenny White was the standout..... because he doesn't even appear to be trying. The guy is mind numbingly good. Oh hell.... they're all so frickin good....I'm only speakin fractions here when I say Lenny stood out!! GREAT post!!

  • 6:35................

  • stanley clarke's fingers must be the most incredible things ever!

  • I never will forget when I first heard this song... My first producer Mr. Bernard Wright ( who do you love) showed me that music is much more than just what you hear... Thanks Nard!!!!

  • i finally get it

  • @chiconmaui congrats! its amazing when your mind and ears open up...

  • Thank goodness the video is in sync!

  • THis is just FUcking Amazing. I mean RTF is fucking amazing, I also like Dream Theater, and Steve Vai, I think those three are just the best of the contemporary.

  • Jazz Fusion has to be my favorite genre

  • my balls dropped after watching this

  • @gbum007 dude I seriously LOL'ed when I read this...

  • @3rr0rid10t hahaha it's true man lol

  • timeless smoke

  • sencillamente extraordinario

  • The Greatest Fusion SONG EVRRRRRRRRRR

  • Loved it!!!

  • thanks chick al di lenny and stanley! you are the best and opened my eyes to music

  • Best album of all time...best band of all time...I know, but they ARE!!! This album give me chills listening to...yeah at my funeral...definitely this SONG!!!

  • yeah!! memories of when music was..the most important thing....

  • I think abig reason alot of people(myself included) have rtf as fave is how they solo.these 4 r probably the most striking

  • I'm growing ever more tired of the "bic lighter" music of now. It kinda works and then gets tossed away. This stuff here is like uranium man. It's half life gaurentees that it will still be here long after we've all "returned to forever." PEACE...

  • @1samuelfour

    Great analogy, man.

  • We were incredibly lucky in the 70's learning with all these fantastic jazzmen touring with their own bands after playing with Miles. Thank you Chick, I never have enough of your music.

  • thanks

  • One thing the Wheater report miss : a guitar player

And here there is one great!

  • I saw them on the 25th reunion tour and they better than ever.......cd available, just google RTF !!

  • played perfectly . . .

  • Incredible talent from every member. Stanley Clarke blows my mind, what an amazing bass player!

  • Lenny White was dropping hard beats before hip hop was even an itch in funks nuts!

  • Nice

  • Luv WEAther Report but it troubles me 2 c that ahell of a lot more people r checking Report on u tube than 4ever.these guy were the ultimate fusion display.nothing against report but lets b serious.NOBODY FUCKIN TOUCHES THESE GUYS AS A WHOLE PERIOD

  • @STEVE25406 - except maybe the Mahavishnu Orchestra who inspired this whole movement of jazz fusion.

  • oh contrair Not to take anything from Mahavishnu but It was Miles Davis who inspired the fusion movement..Listen to Bitches brew or "Jack johnson" (with McLaughlin on Guitar) I rest my case

  • @congabat: sure Bitches Brew was infuental (though Miles in the Sky, Filles de Kilimanjaro & In a Silent Way were MD's first real attempts) and had 1/2 of RtF and of course McLaughlin. But it focuses more on rhythm/backbeat and less on the harder edge and virtuosity that both MO and RtF do. I was responding to the point that no one touches RtF - I think that's wrong. I"m not saying RtF is bad - just that I think MO is stronger & pioneered that approach by 2-3 years.

  • Holy fuck!!! Corea is blowin' me away here -

what a set of awesome musicians

  • Holy fuck!!! Corea is blowin' me away here -

  • This is one of the most incredible pieces of music ever written.

  • the most consistent RTF album is Romantic warrior. All r great but I think they were alittle more seasoned as musician/composers.They always had tremenduous energy ,brilliance and avant garde insanity. So get all the discs and keep checkin this you tube stuuf. This is 1 of the most special bands ever.godak you have sum newly discovered musical goldmine

  • After watching this I must say that Stanley Clarke is the best bassist I've ever seen. Chick, Lenny and Al make the ultimate band. Just awesome.

  • What's the best album to buy to start listening to this band?

  • @godak To my taste the 80's compositions and engineering are the best place to start. To me the zenith of Chick's innovation is found in the first "Elektric Band." If you have multiple band EQ fade the 4-6k hertz bands. It'll take the edge off the highs of the cymbals. That's the one downside of the engineering. It betrayed Dave Weckl's performance and tends to be brittle. I hope you enjoy.

  • Where the fuck is the part that Lupe sampled??

  • My favorite jazz song for 25 tears only recently dawned on my dumb ass that this is a totally acoustic piece of music. How kick fuckin ass. It's like if someone sat you down in aroom and there was a drum kit a stand up bass an acoustic guitar and a piano and someone told you some guys were going to come in and play the most kickin jazz jam ever. Unbelievable

  • simply fantastic

  • One of the best fusion grooves ever laid down...

  • Saw these guys at the Masonic Temple in Detroit. I was one of the few white guys there, and I'd never heard of them before that night but it remains to this day one of the best concerts I've ever seen.

  • I remember me and my mate who played bass used to get stoned listening to this on the deck looking up at the stars. Amazing. Kiwi drummer boy.

  • Best song ever. I am sure Miles was proud.

  • I seen this tour in Phoenix. Mesmerizing. And its all acoustical on this song. Imagine them jamming in their living room.

  • ahhhhhhhh 6:37 my lord what a groove

  • Dam thomasa62 I was thinking the same thing...LOL

  • The best set of musicians ever put together :)

  • One of the great things about PAL is that they always had this song on their in-flight music system (circa late 70's early 80's). It has been awhile since I have flown PAL (or anything else) but I can only hope they still have this CLASSIC in their system.

  • I saw this at Princeton U. in south Jersey and they just left everyone's collective jaw on the floor....

  • God where has all the fantastic music like this gone now? Sounds that take you somewhere else. Created by visionary artists that saw for miles. Music that touches your soul, takes you to better places in your mind. To think this was once played in mainstream! Have we become so TV mind control programmed, so fluoridated, drugged up & dumbed-down not to appreciate GREAT music like this as a society anymore?

  • @rg2027x your so correct , don't make em' like this anymore....we were lucky back in the day to have access to "real music" that was more a journey than anything else.

  • @lespaul8287 Thanks for your reply..Yes we had it all back then. No iphones, digital TV or Internets. But we had passion, we had soul & creativity

Oligarchs don't promote conscious expanding music now. They give us dumbed-down, label made cardboard cut-outs...Business-class, image over substance, sanitized drivel. Mindless, spiritless, ball-less & disposable.

Sad part is, so many MILLIONS buy it! They can't open their wallets fast enough to consume all the BS puked upon them by marketing corps

  • @rg2027x ..I think one of my favourites is BrandX...(Phil Collins on drums and vocals)Percy Jones on bass and John Goodsall guitar, wow, what an imagination these guys had, "unorthodox" to say the least!!!!

  • @lespaul8287 I agree. - particularly their first album. I also loved Robin Lumley (i think that's right) on keyboards. The song euthanasia waltz is a classic.

  • @rg2027x . This was the best, but you have to admit that even then, most people were not into RTF. RW has sold no more than 1M albums while Meat Loaf´s 1977 album Bat out of Hell (not exactly outstanding music) sold over 40M albums.

  • @lespaul8287 i have to disagree, check out The Seatbelts. They are a little more contemporary, but i feel like they make jazz just as storng as it was back then

  • First time I'd heard this version of Romantic Warrior. Wooow. Off the planet good.

  • Chick's solos on this tune were always mindboggling!

  • these guys define the word 'woah'

  • I appreciate this band so much more now than I did in '76. The album "Romantic Warrior" was possibly the height of their output together, but all four LPs this group recorded have their great moments. This is a terrific tune (so is "Sorceress") , and I love seeing and hearing it performed live in this setting-- before the LP?

  • I almost bought this CD the other day but I'd never heard it before so I didn't. OOPS!

  • epic synthesizer.

  • no one makes music like these guys did...

  • @amramjose There were few other, i.e. Jean Luc Ponty's "Imaginary Voyages" album was damn close; not to mention. the "Birds of Fire" album by Mahavishnu Orchestra; Herbie Hancock's "Headhunters" album; Al Laurance Dimeola's 1977 "Elegant Gypsy" album just to name a few.

But you are right, this group of extremely talented individuals were in a very special league which few have attained.

  • @drporter2009 Thanks! had forgotten about those great musicians, since its

    been so long! cheers.

  • The 70s were the best "era" of musical expression. Return to Forever, 11th house,

Mahavishnu. The concerts were an experience. Skilled, creative musicians that offered views never expressed before. Priceless.

  • Maybe I have commented before on this video but this is just the complete music by the complete band. What skill, what creativity and what a feeling.

  • my favorit music

  • is it in d minor or in F major?

  • you are the best.

  • you are the best.

  • If it is true that music has the ability to touch the most inner spaces of our brain and soul, then Romantic Warrior is an unparalleled masterpiece. Its complexity and aesthetic beauty completely takes me out of this world to one of multiple possibilities and vigorous empowerment. Never heard nothing like it since I did it for the first time at age 21.

  • what about kind of blue

  • Best jazz album of all time!

  • @DRoty1 maybe only you been listen to it :)

  • @DRoty1 one of (certainly)

  • @DRoty1 wouldn't go so far but It's (when not the best) the best Jazz Fusion album

  • @DRoty1 and can you believe I picked it up for $1 at my local record store?

  • music is a gift from YAH

  • @lilpoison2

    -WEH?

  • @lilpoison2 I agree............

  • these men are gods in the flesh!!!

  • This is one of the bright moments of this renaissance, which was the 1960's and 1970's. Ever since that era, music has delved into some new realms, but few have made a mark in history like Return To Forever. The Romantic Warrior release has to be their pinnacle achievement, and we are blessed to have been living during such times. When it comes to mixing up rock and jazz, hispanic and african cultures, this truly is American art at it's finest.

  • IF I HAD ONE SONG I HAD TO PICK TO LISTEN TO...THIS WOULD BE IT. HAS EVERY ELEMENT I ENJOY IN MUSIC: MELODY, MUSICIANSHIP, CREATIVITY...has the ability to remove me from my state of consciousness to a euphoric place...AM REQUESTING TO HAVE THIS PLAYED AT MY FUNERAL...

  • @thomasa62 I echo your every thought. Being a dead head I have my shares of favs but this takes me to the farthest place in my mind

  • @thomasa62 I wore the grooves off of this album when I was a teen in the late 70's.. Every freakin' day, I'd put this album on.

  • @thomasa62 You got the feeling right. This is now one of the soundtracks of my imaginations. Beautiful

  • @thomasa62 amen!

  • @thomasa62 amen my f
