Ever try to quit cigarettes and the following day after a great meal you find yourself by the window searching your pockets before it all sets in? Amplify that and that's what Artie went through for years. Although the show kept him afloat through his depressions it eventually became the factor that drowned him. For drugs, he needed the 6 months treatment at this point. The Mental Institution he also went to was needed since shrinks have no effect on him. Thank God he made it through recently.
The thing about addiction is that 99% of addicts follow the same patterns of drug use, denial and destruction so Dr. Drew doesn't need to know much about Artie's individual circumstances. Once a therapist knows that someone is an addict, the diagnosis and treatment options are basically the same.

I was scared of therapy too because it forces you to confront yourself and it's much easier to sedate yourself with something to avoid being self aware. I hope big Art is doing good. Definitely! Many of his methods are questionable and not shared by the majority of the psychiatric community. He uses those SPECT scans to diagnose "organic brain dysfunction", which is a bogus diagnosis. Also, his whole theory about sex addiction is completely dismissed by most professionals. He seems to get so hung up on everything being a consequence of addiction that he misses underlying psychiatric disorders that actually drive addictions.

Not to mention the fact that on the latest edition of Celebrity Rehab he knowingly allows Tom Sizemore to enter the same rehab as his ex-gf Heidi Fleiss, who was convicted, CONVICTED of assault and battery on Heidi. That is insane. It isnt even advisable for a couple to enter the same rehab at the same time. He has a former couple with a history of violence in rehab at the same time! There is really so much wrong with that, it boggles my mind.

Yes, I had to read dozens of them in order to get my degree. Which ones are you reading? Almost all the latest research from bio-psychiatry suggests that the majority of addicts are coping with an underlying psychiatric disorder. That said, I wasn't referring to addicts in general when I made that statement. I was referring to Kari Ann Peniche from Drew's show, who has since been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder.

Unfortunatley a lot of these celebs lifestyles are not conducive to staying sober. Look at Mary Carey. She knew what she needed to do to be sober and happy and healthy. But she could not fathom giving up her 'fame' (or infamy). So when it came time to pay the bills instead of going out and getting a job she reverts to porn pays the bills and Drew used me. The sleezy porn industry is the only one that really cares and Dr. Drew who is a board certified physician who was trying to help her is evil.
