Beautiful car!! You see the specs on it? 28mph and up to 70 mile range. No different than today really. Tesla himself drove a modified 1931 Pierce-Arrow powered by electricity for long periods of time - and at speeds of up to 90mph, very fast in comparison to the driving speeds of the day. The technology was there back then with the exception of battery technology, but even back the Tesla found a way around that. Too bad no one listened to Tesla.
@nashtwin8 i guess they went under in part because they refused to modernise! you are right, it is extremely old-fashioned, i seriously wonder why they didnt make something more modern... and in larger numbers!
Interestingly the electric motor (helped) killed the electric car. Electric cars tended to be driven by women who could not start/crank an ICE. The invention of the electric starter eliminated this disadvantage but the EVs were still seen as ladies cars and slowly lost market share. The DE name has recently been purchased for a revival (?)
Amazing display of early technology in how to save the environment. But with no steering wheel? There is a device that allows you to control this car.Did you see it or miss it?
the "steering wheel" is there. at :59 seconds you will see a rod sticking out. this steers the car by moving it"swinging" it. and at the end of the rod is a "grip" this is the throttle. kinda like a motorcycle throttle. thanks for asking. you twist the grip on the end to make it go.
@DJMisT0910 you are the idiot here. If you were not a young punk kid you would realize that the car was made that way from the factory. It was not modified in any way. Yes, battery operated cars were around back then. Next time educate yourself before you show how ignorant you really are.
I didn't realize they used steering rudders instead of wheels back in '32. Interesting. Great electric car. Too bad Detroit dropped the ball on that one.
Yo i was at that car show too. I got a small but pretty cool video of the 45th Das Awkscht Fescht in 2008. Check it out please, and also comment. (on something)
And outrageously priced, I wouldn't be too surprised if GM or Ford were behind Tesla in some way. At any rate, when you consider the years between this car and the DIY cars today, the range of this thing is pretty good. Lead acid is just a cheap way to start, LiPo seems like a good way to go long range.
,<b> at :59 sec. you see a rudder sticking into the drivers area. you steer with that and turn the end of it like a motorcycle (sure you know about them) for the throttle. see, you learned something today.
awesome

...you can Edison and his freemason buddies for that, and just think how much of our "energy" they have been stealing ever since...

Isn't it a bit ridiculous that this car was made in 1932 and we just now start to get it? Why aren't we all in electric cars by now?
mpopean 1 year ago
@mpopean Actually, this car was very old-fashioned in 1932. The electric car's heyday ended about 1910.

Good clean video. Tx.
Interesting how that auxiliary seat is in front of the main ones. We now have "kiddie" seat behind the main ones, even in pick-up trucks.
It is away from the steering gear, but not the pedals!! :)

Very cool..now check out the Tesla Roadster.
It gets 165 mph, 250 miles between charges thanks to it's lithium battery pack. Yes, the Tesla is a fully-electric car right now!

If you ever get a chance to go to the Ford museum, you can see electric cars that were built in the 1890's.
