I would have thought Samsung was number 1, but being in that position is not sustainable. Only problem at 50, they exaggerate lack of contrast on the left. Most people can't even spot a difference between either technology even though judging a tv on brightness alone is what naive people do. That said, how thin it is (or the mactard factor), is useless. Fact is many better TV's end up being fatter because of enhancements to their design that result in a better picture. Local area dimming is nicer, but check price. Size is also an important consideration. Small TV's suck.
I have a Sony Bravia 55" Edge LED, and i'm kinda disappointed about the edge backlid. When watching a movie in the dark it is clearly apparent and as my last TV was a plasma, i notice it a lot.
So if you have the money, definitely choose local LED.
@gaijinblow Just to answer your question normal lcds use "ccfl's" cold cathode florescent light bulbs which use a ton of power, where as led lighting is almost no power a good example is a wind up flashlight if you can power a single led using your hand to turn a crank it must be very low power consumption they can use up to 60 percent less energy than conventional ccfl. From experience I could agree LCD is far worse then plasma but LED and plasma are hard to compare because they both are very good I can't tell which is better as of now id stick to plasma cause some LEDs had the motion blur and that shit is annoying

Samsung it the #1 seller and biggest manufactuer, Sony, LG have partnerships somewhere with Samsung, Sony have better research and innovation than Samsung in some spots. S-LCD is sony and samsung, Panasonic are the most supportive to the plasma section so better there. Chi Mei Corporation and AU Optronics build the LCD panels mosly all LCD's incl samsung So no moaning about that... I would say the best would be Samsung, Panasonic, Sony, Toshiba I think LG have good lookers but not as solid.
You Dumbass every brand you listed except Sony and phillips are not dated but them to are, Sony has good tv's for hz and contrast while phillips(as said by director) use cheaper materials to give consumers a lower price - extreme glares, pixel life of 1600 hours(should be atleast 3000) and the full HD tvs were voted to look like 720p
Actually, Phillips recent high end TV's have won many awards, and have been given excellent indipendent reviews.
All companies have good and bad TV's, a few of Sony's '09 range were terrible and very unreliable. A lot of LG's offerings have very soft images, Sharp had a huge problem with colour banding for a few years, and as lots of people have said Samsung are unreliable.
Quality seens to go on a TV by TV basis these days, no brand is best.
Oled UHD is the dream, but for now Samsung is the best. They were the first ones to sell Led tv's and they've got the thinnest Led tv's. Samsung are the pioneers of Led. Don't trust numbers. Go to the store and find out for yourself! My choice is Samsung.
It's better to get the full LED,which is actually called Directly lit LED,than the edge LED.Reason being that Edge LED will give that annoying gray effect with blacks,whereas "Full LED"(no pun intended)will not.

I've done the research and agree that Plasma is much better. I have two LED and two Plasma's in my home. The power consumption is not great on the Plasma, but if you enjoy seeing movies they way they were meant to be, then hands down Plasma is the only choice.
When it comes to technology, PLASMA displays over-performs any LCD-based flat-panel display. Bottom-line, PLASMA TV's are far superior!
So don't waste any more time debating CFL backlit LCDs and LED backlit LCDs (edge lit, side lit, full matrix array, etc. its just ridiculous how many design/layouts there are) and JUST get a frikkin PLASMA display. You will not regret your purchase!!

estoy apunto de comprarme una patalla de nueva generacion, leo y leo comentarios y no veo cual sea el mejor, estoy emocionado por uqe tendre mi nueva tv, pero que las led no duran mucho tienen corto plaso de vida pero dicen que joder sus colores son imprecionantes, ahora viendo este video veo que hay dos tipos de led, cual led es la mejor no seeeee, quiero mi pantalla para mis videojuegos

@newjesuswolf mira yo compre una y creo que es la Edge, segun e lvideo la full seve pesima. la mia es la sony bravia kdl-40nx710 esta muy barata en coppel hay la compre y para mi ps3 con hdmi se ve com madres!!! xD y si tienes un xbox e igual seven iguales salu2!!

I would have thought Samsung was number 1, but being in that position is not sustainable. It's as if Samsung spent the money to put our some really impressive tech and hype the situ to make them appear to be number 1, but in truth and as surprising as it was for me, LG does have a stunning picture and the response times are much faster than Samsung. Still not sure why Samsung allowed this to happen. They were always my first choice in TV and then Yamaha in audio.

Only problem at 50, they exaggerate lack of contrast on the left. Most people can't even spot a difference between either technology even though judging a tv on brightness alone is what naive people do. That said, how thin it is (or the mactard factor), is useless. Fact is many better TV's end up being fatter because of enhancements to their design that result in a better picture. Local area dimming is nicer, but check price. Size is also an important consideration. Small TV's suck.

I have a Sony Bravia 55" Edge LED, and i'm kinda disappointed about the edge backlid. When watching a movie in the dark it is clearly apparent and as my last TV was a plasma, i notice it a lot.
So if you have the money, definitely choose local LED.

@gaijinblow Just to answer your question normal lcds use "ccfl's" cold cathode florescent light bulbs which use a ton of power, where as led lighting is almost no power a good example is a wind up flashlight if you can power a single led using your hand to turn a crank it must be very low power consumption they can use up to 60 percent less energy than conventional ccfl. From experience I could agree LCD is far worse then plasma but LED and plasma are hard to compare because they both are very good I can't tell which is better as of now id stick to plasma cause some LEDs had the motion blur and that shit is annoying

My 37'' screen is the good ol' non LED. It's very good at keeping my small room warm and cosy. Also, my fat PS3 is good at spewing out some heat too.

Samsung it the #1 seller and biggest manufactuer, Sony, LG have partnerships somewhere with Samsung, Sony have better research and innovation than Samsung in some spots. S-LCD is sony and samsung, Panasonic are the most supportive to the plasma section so better there. Chi Mei Corporation and AU Optronics build the LCD panels mosly all LCD's incl samsung So no moaning about that... I would say the best would be Samsung, Panasonic, Sony, Toshiba I think LG have good lookers but not as solid.

You Dumbass every brand you listed except Sony and phillips are not dated but them to are, Sony has good tv's for hz and contrast while phillips(as said by director) use cheaper materials to give consumers a lower price - extreme glares, pixel life of 1600 hours(should be atleast 3000) and the full HD tvs were voted to look like 720p

Actually, Phillips recent high end TV's have won many awards, and have been given excellent indipendent reviews.
All companies have good and bad TV's, a few of Sony's '09 range were terrible and very unreliable. A lot of LG's offerings have very soft images, Sharp had a huge problem with colour banding for a few years, and as lots of people have said Samsung are unreliable.
Quality seens to go on a TV by TV basis these days, no brand is best.

Oled UHD is the dream, but for now Samsung is the best. They were the first ones to sell Led tv's and they've got the thinnest Led tv's. Samsung are the pioneers of Led. Don't trust numbers. Go to the store and find out for yourself! My choice is Samsung.

It's better to get the full LED,which is actually called Directly lit LED,than the edge LED.Reason being that Edge LED will give that annoying gray effect with blacks,whereas "Full LED"(no pun intended)will not.

@bestamerica It's cheaper because if it was made in the US, it would cost more. People legally have to be paid more in the USA, so it's cheaper to give people lower pay in Asia, and use the existing factories, instead of building more in the USA. So there is the answer. The USA cannot produce the TV and still keep the price at $1000.

I've done the research and agree that Plasma is much better. I have two LED and two Plasma's in my home. The power consumption is not great on the Plasma, but if you enjoy seeing movies they way they were meant to be, then hands down Plasma is the only choice.

When it comes to technology, PLASMA displays over-performs any LCD-based flat-panel display. Bottom-line, PLASMA TV's are far superior!
So don't waste any more time debating CFL backlit LCDs and LED backlit LCDs (edge lit, side lit, full matrix array, etc. its just ridiculous how many design/layouts there are) and JUST get a frikkin PLASMA display. You will not regret your purchase!!
