  • so you placed an extra fret between each the first and second, then the third and fourth fret. i've been interested in that for a long time. can this modification be done to an already build instrument, or is it advised to get a bouzouki build like this only? could a luthier just do it? another question costa, this would work well on trixordo, wouldn't it? i thank you for your time, keep up the great playing and ideas!

  • @nikjonjay

easy, mon. buddy is alive :-)

I was referring to some of the people who could be part of Satan's list (Jimi used to record Buddy and practice the licks).

SRV was an angel. Can't be on that list.

  • Wow! Costas......but when does Satan come to collect his due??

  • @nikjonjay

by the time he figures the mortgage securities of django reinhardt, jimi hendrix, buddy guy and pre-approval of john mclaughlin, and provided he is done with Robert Johnson's solvancy already. ;-)

Glad to find a fellow countryman who enjoys bouzouki.

search for "rialas bouzouki solo", that one is pretty cool synthesis

and also try :"rialas funky tsitsanis" which is out of this world.

what brings you to the world of bouzouki and rebetiko?

  • Can any one tell me what this song is called

  • Interesting sound

  • love itttttttttttt

  • What are the rules of taximi? In rock music, I simply take a key and a scale and I do what I want. Is it in the Greek music the same?

  • mbravo re riala no 1

  • It seems that Yiannis Palaiologou has had a massive impact on most bouzouki players, you have this at the core of your style .When Palaiologou did it ,it was not a new style of playing bouzouki ,but maybe a remachined one, which made it unique. Its also a sad thing to see so many bouzouki players try to reinvent the Palaiologou method, with more speed ,rather than find a new perspective, or has this method of playing been so over expanded, that it all just sounds the same.

  • @tonesoti

Perhaps you found your perspective with Palaiologou.

We found our perspectives with Rialas.

If it still all just sounds the same, I admire your search for the new perspective to the truth.

For some of us, this is the truth.

    Wishing you good luck.

  • Rialas The BEST.

    Very nicee,very pro.

  • Beautiful... love your playing!

I have added 2 (partial) frets on my flamenco guitar (!) so that I can use these middle eastern modes in my music.

  • Thank you Itamar. Your guitar playing is amazing. Respect.

  • Nice extra frets. I was thinking of having two extra frets put onto my bouzouki in this same way. I actually normally tune in GDAD or GDGD, which you said you do to this instrument. What gauge strings do you use on it? I was thinking of getting thicker strings because it sounds to loose with standard greek strings.

  • Unfortunatley I can't remember the gauge I used to use. As I sometimes tune to stantard tuning now, I just stick to standard gauge strings even though the tension is to low. A good luthier should be able to calculate the correct gauge for you.

  • Hey thanks for replying. I've been trying to ask around a lot and you're the only one who answered.

I was actually thinking of using standard Greek strings on the upper two courses. And then for the lower two courses I would use a set of Irish bouzouki strings, because they are thicker. However, the Irish tend to use unisons on the lower two courses, so I would use the upper Irish strings for the octaves. To me, this would make sense since tuning down to Gg-Dd-gg-dd is a lot of lost tension.

I adore you playing style. I'm looking into buying a bouzouki and I love the sound of quarter notes..

Would you suggest me adding only one fret for learning?

  • Great, great, great. fantastic music. Any idea on how to string a bouzouki professionally? Ive just bought one and the strings on the tuner side are twisted on the string itself. And what cds do you recommend with this style of music. I love it.

  • Thanks. 1st four strings of a guitar EBGD but one tone lower DAFC and doubled up like as 12 string guitar.

  • As a musician bass player i've always injoyed hollow body instruments. i owen a Brownville bass guitar made for Sam Ash Music NYC. My instrument is simular to the Paul McCartney Hofner bass, the only difference my BASS is a bit thinner & a little wide /w a thin neck. When i viewed your video, i liftted my arms in the air & said WOW! Ur amazing. thank U.

  • Hi Sam. Thank you for your kind words.

  • You are very welcome!!! Keep posting!!

  • Kataplixtiko!! I am a huge fan of the Ousak scale and quarter tones as I am half Lebanese. You make the bouzouki sound like an Oud. Fantastic!!! You are a true master and appreciate the true soul of our music!

  • fantastic it sounds great well done . sounds like 2 instruments in one.

  • Not only an excellent technique but also great feeling, you made the bouzouki speak. Please keep postong, you've got a fan here.

  • bouzouki sounds like saz or have i got damaged ears?

  • the best Oreos

  • It funny that there are people with criticism about space ( silence) in music, it is of great importance. I must agree but it's usually people who cannot technically execute a fast phrase and actually be saying something with it who make these comments. You would not have said the same thing to Miles Davis a master of space who plays some very fast & complexed phrases. The quarter notes are linear, that is to say the harmony structure is within the melody line.

  • Hi Chris. Man you analyze deeply. Anyway, i'm still trying to figure out the bass line of the track you wrote for me. It's coming along. Cheers.

  • Did not intend to sound to deep in my comments its mainly for some people who think there are to many notes !! in your video clip ha ha lol

  • PS. I accidently deleted the message you sent me last week whilst trying to reply. Sorry.
