Wushu swords that are used in competitions and public demos are not real weapons. Real swords are much heavier and require more skill in order to handle them.
That kind of cultural mishy mashy, battle royale, determine the ultimate swordsmen thing never goes well. Too many divisions in this divided world, I'd rather see matches between competent warriors, independent of style, etc.
seems a little... weedy. but everyone has to have their own path i guess :)

2 handed sword came to the Mantis styles with Master Hao Heng Lu, who created "Ba xian jian" and "Damo jian" in Mantis family in the middle of 40th.
This form you can study in Beijing from Ma Weijing laoshi or in Hamden US from Ilya Profatilov.
