The reason why there is no comparison is because your examining the Edge's ability to the way Gorham and Roberston play. The Edge doesn't play like those guys but he is a fantastic gutair player when your not judging him by such narrow and innapropiate standards. The Edge is a minimilist gutair player so off course he won't be held in high regard for flashy solos. He adds texture to a song and uses effects masterfully, not to mention he's one the most original players.
In 2010 John Norum made a cover of this song. The time is faster than this one and the sound is great! :D It's in the album "Play Yard Blues" with other fantastic songs

I find his tone and phrasing whining.
To me his tone is like an modern solid state amp and to much distortion from pedals.
Gorham and Robertson have the crancked up tube amp sound wich sounds great imho.
They also play fast, driving or layed back solo's but never whining like G.M.
So to me it is not about 'who is the best' but about 'who do i like the best'
