Everybody has seen the terrible tragedy that has happened to Japan. And of course, it's obviously not as near bad as what had happened to Japan. But seeing out power plants and harbors, are by the ocean, we are just being prepared. For the past years there has been an increase in these tragedies and seeing that all of them are happening in the Ring of Fire, and Hawai'i is right in the middle of it, we just want to be prepared for anything that comes our way.

@310socalifornia Because Hawaii is far enough from Japan that the waves were much smaller. This small wave that hit Kona, was the same wave that hit Japan. Just like ripples in a pond, the waves are MUCH larger close to the epicenter, and get smaller as they radiate outward. Though, to be fair to your point, even one foot of water can do serious damage and injure/kill people when it is moving like that. I certainly wouldn't have chosen that particular spot to stand. :P
