@CaptainSaul18 Today's engines are not sensitive to water and are regularly exposed to water during driving in rain. Rain is pulled into the engine compartment through the grill and splashed from below. An engine in good repair with no compromised electrical connections is not harmed by using an engine degreaser and a water rinse. We recommend covering air intakes and any electrical boxes from direct streams but if used as recommended, engine degreasers do not pose a threat to your vehicle.
@mypalrocco Really!, well try driving your car under the rain without a hood and see what happens. I seen guys destroy there engines by pressure washing them..
ok just a quick question i had a 05 mustang and i did this and my altanator went out that after noon the dealer said i caused a short with the water should i unhook the battery and let the car drip dry on a hot summer day before starting it
@gooztala We would recommend using a gun specific cleaner. We make the Smith & Wesson Gun specific lubricants and cleaners. If you go to their website you should be able to find what you need.
@Darkwade33 We recommend that you cover any air intakes, a distributor cap if you think it has any cracks in it and any wiring that may be frayed or cracked. A plastic bag will do just fine.
@viggoM35 As long as you follow the directions and rinse down the engine down after degreasing it will not effect any of the plastics or rubber parts. GUNK has been cleaning engines for over 60 years.
@RSCGUNK Does it have petroleum based cleaners? From my experience with detailing engines it's recommended to protect sensors, distributors, and other sensitive areas with plastic or aluminum foil. I go as far as removing serpentine belts, and even vacuum, breather, and radiator hoses. Just a tip to those that might have a model car with expensive replacement parts.
@veetour It's ok to spray down the alternator with degreaser, just don't hold a direct stream of water on it when rinsing off. Use a non direct spray, engines are built to withstand water since they get soaked normally while driving through rain storms. Cover any intake's or frayed electrical wiring that may cause a problem if you directly spray them with a stream of water. I would use the same precautions with the battery and only use an indirect spray to rinse.
i used the original one on my engine and it didnt do much. I'm assuming i need to use the heavy duty one? (i used the whole can over two applications)
@FutureMarine246 We would like to know more about what type of car you are trying to clean up and the issues you are having. Please feel free to call us at 1-877-464-4865. That way we can make sure we get you the right product for the job. Thanks!
@pelinos1995 All engines are built to withstand water, since they get soaked normally while driving through rain storms. It's important when cleaning an engine to cover any intake's or electrical wiring that may cause a problem if you directly spray them with a stream of water. Since the Carb takes in air, you want to make sure to cover it so that you are not spraying degreaser or water directly into the Carb.
@pelinos1995 It really depends on what your trying to clean off your engine. If you car has a carb then most likely its an older model and may have oil and grease built up on it from years of driving. I would recommend either GUNK Original Engine Degreaser or GUNK Heavy Duty GEL. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Spraying the matt on the hood can sometimes hold the odor of the degreaser. Spray degreaser on a rag and wipe into the heavy deposits. Use a brush to loosen the grease and rinse thoroughly with water.
We recommend to not get any over spray in the air intake or in the firewall padding. If the smell is coming from the padding you can try again to rinse it thoroughly with water to remove any odor. If it’s coming from the air intake or filter carefully remove the part and clean it out properly. We have 3 different Engine Cleaners/Degreasers that are formulated to work best on certain types of engine build up and then a protection/detailer product that should give you the results you’re looking for
I just clean my engine with Gunk and it made my car really stinky special inside my interior. Result weren't that great, and yes I follow and the instruction on the back.
Alternators are routinely sprayed with Engine Brite Engine Degreaser during cleaning. The key is to thoroughly rinse them. That being said, an alternator with questionable connections or damaged voltage regulator could be damaged further by the rinse water. If in doubt, cover it up. Keep in mind that a lot of water goes through the grill into the engine compartment when driving in the rain. Alternators are designed to resist a good bit of water, as are starters.
The only problem is using the engine shine, the belts will slip for months!

This is horrible to modern engines, too many electrical parts that can be damaged!

@2010Reilly We recommend starting the engine after rinsing and letting it run for 10 minutes or until all the water has had time to dry.
RSCGUNK 1 month ago
@2010Reilly It's not a bad idea to cover the alternator with a bag or something before you spray.

@viggoM35 As long as you rinse it off it's okay. As mentioned in the video it also helps to use an engine detailer afterwards.

@viggoM35 Also, never spray it on a hot engine.

@pelinos1995 i think the only think that YOU CAN NOT spray or get soaked will be the carburettor. thats a very sensible part of the.
i may be wrong so make sure.....
