  • Το large trowel!!!!!!!!!

  • My whole family are bricklayers pretty much and one thing I've learned is pert near all masons are "the best" and all others are slow, sloppy, rolling blah blah blah.. quality over quantity any day! P.s all masons that talk smack about other masons should really think about your future.. one bricky can't build the world.. what happened to teamwork, fun on the job, your ruining the trade man, you lower the moral and make people not give a fuck think about it.... nice video btw man

  • i tended for the mason that built my barn and we had 24 inch block and holy fuck that sucked haha. i have alot of respect for masons now

  • @farmingndippin yeah its one thing to carry the bricks all day another to throw them into a wall harder than it looks right

  • yours first time a

  • my mexicans would blow your doors off

  • i practiced the art of laying bricks in my bathroom a couple of minutes ago.

  • TIP TAHT TROWL BITCHES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • You got skills. I worked alongside an old school mason when I was a carpenter. MUCH respect for the art. Shame really how much of that is giving way to the "new age" of building. It's all faster and cheaper now. Old school skills are dying every year.

  • look like ice cream maker hehhhehehe........

  • 2:40 Look at the board. he was not even close to being out.

  • I am in a masonry class and were now learning how to lay brick to a line. I am only 17 years old and its really easy and simple to me. I get graded on my walls and projects and usually always get 95+ percentages.

  • @doomowner5 Yeah laying 2 a line isnt that hard except when UR laying 12in semi solids above UR head after they sat out in the rain the day B4. If you ever get a real job laying brick you will notice that half that shit you did in school wont even apply to the shit you do in the field. I have been in the trade for 28 years laying CMU"s and Brick and believe me when you get a hold of a Split face block and dont no if its got you are you got it then tell me how easy beating a line is.

  • @spiegelsteven 12" rain soaked blocks is a frickin workout!!

  • @MrInternet69 Yep i remember back in the 80s when i first started laboring for Masons we did a lot of House foundations. They were 12 inch block and a lot of times the last course were semi solids. I was 21 and was skinny as a rail i couldnt gain a pound but after a year or so my arms were as big as my legs. I would take the neighborhood tuff guys to work and watch them cry like a little bitch. It takes a certain breed to do that kind of work the kind you dont want to fuck with.

  • check out admicbrickwork.co.uk

  • There is only one way to lay bricks, ask a bricklayer to do it, and less talking and more work.

  • try some full joints champ!

  • i,m about to build a perfectly round house, um now where can I get the string from

I have the footing and slab down and started with blown quarry granite, changing to brick:))

This guy uses a totally different technique to what I have seen on others vids where they put the morter on the brick in hand. But then again I am a learner

  • i,m about to buld a perfectly round house, um now where can I get the string from

This guy uses a totally different technique to what I have seen on others vids where they put the moter on the brick in hand. But then again I am a learner

  • I dont understand why all these videos the masons are constantly scraping the mortar off the bricks several times which leads to smearing of the brick and also wasting of movements. A good mason only scrapes the mortar off one time picks up another and lays it and so one and so fourth. All that scaping does not amount to a hill of beans it is just wasting time.

  • when finishing joints how do you choose between raking out and concave?

  • @tcsotm99 it just depends on your overall preference. what YOU want the wall to look like.

  • i wanna be brickie

  • how tight does your g string supposed to be in order to have straight bricks?

  • @grig24x Pull it like you live

  • @grig24x

Tight enough to 'tang' a bit like a piano string. It's no so important on a short wall though.

  • @eatmoreraw that over great, wow! is that how tight your string?

  • Comment removed

  • Its laying stupid brick. I could do that with my eyes closed. No joke.

  • @xoerry101ox ur not even a mason

  • @xoerry101ox I guess you were born a mason huh?

  • What kind of mortar is he using that is so light in color?

  • @carlosg815 mayby baech sand mortar

  • not to mention hard work detection dickwaude

  • @adam you don't knw what the fuck your talking about it involves alot of math u dipshit

  • I tell ya what dude. There's dumb people in any field u go into. We might not all be the smartest people in the world, but ill tell you this. We work hard and earn our keep. And ill bet any one of us would run through ur ass in a heartbeat. So talk ur crap., but u wouldn't last twenty minutes with me

  • That's a lime mortar. No cement involved. Alot easier to work with. However you'd never use it outside.

  • A "Help" in doing Bricklaying is by using Joint Spacers.

  • can you please give me formula on your mix

  • So that's what Rowdy Roddy Piper is doing these days!

Just kidding, thank you for sharing your knowledge, you are, no doubt, a master of your craft sir.

  • this job needs higher IQ as it is an intellectual job hahahaha lol hahaha can i please call it a dumb job please allow me to say that

  • @adamisking666 masonry is a lost art - especially lost on douche bags like ada -- until you've worked with the mason's tools, save your comments; ada may also be surprised to know that there is an extensive science to masonry as well...haha...tell us about the equation for the formation of tricalcium silicate -- ada you're a waste of space

  • Thank you so much. You are a very good teacher.

  • Thank you so much. You are a very good teacher.

  • I was an asshole im sorry I now realize this video isn't about speed and I wanted to compliment you on your spreading abilities and placement on your bricks. Good job and sorry again

  • Not impressive. Stop tapping your brick. Wasting time buddy

  • great. thanks

  • Great video, thank you!

  • this is a really superb video thank you!

  • The Uniruler-folding ruler!!!Theunirulerguy-channel

  • Great video.

  • Great video.

  • your teach v well for masson

  • check out our channel for bricklayers theunirulerguy

  • Azuga, very informative...

  • The only thing that suprised me about brickying is that the bricks aren't uniform in size, even from the same batch. I can honestly say that gave me something to think about and slightly dissapointed me. But I was showed how to correct such minor details. Do you have any other clips from your videos, ie foundations/footings and different bonds?

I don't think the other poster has ever visited the US, especially around New England. The brick work on some of the buildings is as good as Englands

  • I don't care what the others say mate, that's a good wall your building, good tuition, good advice, if the others don't think your a bricky. Then they should watch your videos which I am thinking about buying. You are clearly a tradesman and know your stuff. I did a basic 4 day course on diy bricklaying in Stockport, and I am considering doing another course for more ornate work & buying a pallette of them to practice with in my cellar, then I can rebuild my garden wall in flemish bond.

  • well in mate..

  • How come though, when i try and spread the mortar on the brick (like you do) it just goes all over the place?

Maybe a few tips on actually spreading the mortar would be nice.

you make it look to easy, and its not easy at all.if you dont get the mortar spread out evenly you end up having to knock the hell out of the top of the brick with your trowel.

  • great video

  • Very nice video, This guy is a pro.... Thumbs up to you sir.

  • @IronMike940 this guy is not a pro this guy is hitting the brick the the back of his trowel and when he scrapes the mud off the brick he layed he doesn't head the next one on the wall he spreads the one i his hand alot of wasted movement these are things you learn not to do when you are laying brick i am a 3rd generation mason i should know but he does give the novice DIY a good lesson i suppose

  • @APBTisBeast not to mention he never lays his brick with a full head joint and is slow as shit im sorry but he is just now pro if he came on the job within 10 minutes he wouldn't have a job if i were the foreman especially which i probably would be LOL

  • @APBTisBeast PLEASE UNDERSTAND HE IS A TEACHER AND HE HAS TO SHOW PEOPLE IN A SLOW MANNER SO THEY COULD GET THE IDEA. I AM SURE 100% IF HE WORKED ON THE LINE AT A NORMAL SITE HE WOULD HAVE SHOWN EVERYONE HIS TRUE SPEED AND EVEN CHEATED A LITTLE BIT JUST TO GET A HEAD! I THINK HE IS A GOOD TEACHER!

  • @KnowHowDOCTOR a good teacher teaches to do things the right way never make a wasted movement never peck on brick with your trowel things like this he may be a good teacher for DIY type folks but not for people who are going to be in the trade the rest of there life

  • @APBTisBeast YOU ARE WRIGHT IF YOU TEACH SOMEONE FOR PRO WORKMANSHIP YOU CAN'T WASTE MOVEMENT I AGREE

  • @APBTisBeast your talking crap.you should always butter the brick in your hand as opposed to buttering the brick you have laid.

  • @thanxx LMAO OK kid i have been doing this for 20+ years i think i know how to lay brick the more steps you take to lay one brick the longer the job is going to take when you lay 80 thousand plus brick on a house with 2 people just me and my father then you can talk to me you must have took this guys classes or went to brick laying college LOL

  • @APBTisBeast No mate im currently at college(in England, you know the country that gave the world the art of brick laying)learning the trade and this is the way we are learnt.

Any way i thought you yanks built your houses out of twigs and shingles still?

Kind of makes the rest of the world laugh when we see you build your houses out of bits of wood, then cry every year when they get blown over in the storm season LMAO now that puzzling.

  • @thanxx just because the freemasons started in england doesn't mean you know your ass from a hole in the ground you said it your still in college you have never even laid a fucking brick a block or stone for that matter so how the fuck would you even know how to do it that is right you wouldn't the only way to learn masonry is to do it and like i said i have been doing it 20+ years and might i add not one house i have ever worked on has been blown down no go hit the books you'll need it

  • @thanxx I AGREE WITH YOU THAT YOU SHOULD ALWAYS BUTTER YOUR BRICK FIRST IN HAND!

  • merci

  • he did in a couple of minutes what it took me one day to do. and a million times better!

  • you can tell this guys a pro.Just look at how clean his trousers and shoes are.true tradesmen keep clean.bodgers end up covered in muck.

  • Now this guy IS an expert. Thanks a lot for this great video.

  • This guy is a natural - great demo and explanation.

  • Has this guy got anymore videos anywhere?

  • man! your good!

  • thanks for the reply, but mine is dark grey and in this video is a light grey. do you reckon i am using the wrong sand. i am using builders sand which i think is right. i know you can get orange coloured sand wondered if that would be better. I am also using large blocks so that may also be a problem, don't know if the same ratio apllies? 400X200X100 concrete blocks. any help would be greatful

  • @beckerton123 ah i see, it could be. But i think it'll probably be, just the colour of cement hes using. Im not sure, but it might vary from countries or different brand makes. If you have a search into Google on cement colouring you'll find all your answers there.(if you needed it a specific colour)

  • my mud doesn't look like this, it is stiff and dark grey where am i going wrong? I use 4 sand 1 cement, water and plasiticizer. it never sticks to the brick when i butter it and i can never tap the bricks down as easy as that.

    can somebody help me???

  • @beckerton123 add more water and maybe a bit more plasti

  • @beckerton123 yes . i will put a vid how to do morter soon . FOR 2 BAGS OF CIMENT PUT 1 1/2 OF WATER THEN PUT SAND TO THE MIDDLE OF THE MIXER , NEED TO BE LIKE THE MUD THE PUT 2 BAGS OF CIMENT FULL THE MIXER OF SAND BUT NOT FULL FULL ALMOST PUT WATER LETS MIX ABOUT 3 MINUTES STOP IT LET IT 2 MINUTES LATER PUT BACK ON AND ADD LITTLE WATER CREAMMY MORTAR BABY

  • @beckerton123 you need plaz or a drop of fairy washing up liquid. the colour depends on what your trying to match?? standerd pug is 4/5 shovels of sand half a bag of cement and another 4/5 shovels of sand, add water till its rite with the plaz or washing up liquid, i tell my labourer to take a hand full of pug out the mixer and drop a dollop on top and when it spins round if its still there your good to go.

  • @leemassey1 lol your a knobhead

  • @jrgniuwer hows that you jobs worth cunt??

  • @leemassey1 oh look its you again going through youtube mugging people off! lol prick

  • @jrgniuwer putting a dollop of muck on top of the mixer is an old school way of teaching a new kid on the block how to no wen the muck is good enough. if it stays there wivout running all over its good. if it falls off u need water. idiot proof

  • @leemassey1 washing up liquid lol you cunt! hahahaha and sticking muk to the side of the mixer hahahahha

  • @jrgniuwer i didnt mug any1 off u nob head??? only you, are you on crack??? yea a drop of washing up liquid shit cunt does the same job as feb-mix u rookie slag

  • @leemassey1 lol you fucking twat! what you price for feb and go down co op and get fairy liquid? you mug

  • @jrgniuwer does that make sense??

  • Great video, very helpful. I'll be having some free time these days, so I plan on building a brick fence around my house.

  • this is a gud vid

  • i think you call it front and back

  • in germany we dont have the line inside allways outside the wall

  • no tapping

    youneed full cross joint

  • no tapping

  • Thanks , tryed it and it worked out great .

  • Nice video... to the simple, to the point and INSTRUCTIVE! I haven't laid brick in a while... had to refresh my memory because I haven't done a ton of it. You make it look easier than it is.

  • Master Brick Layer!

  • You don't tap your bricks down with your handle! This guy is not a real bricklayer.

  • @TPLR2 and if you look he aint filling in the perpes of the back of the brick

  • @TPLR2 yea do

  • @miniwill94 yea do what?

  • The only complaint i really have is the way the brick is buttered.Buttering only one side so that the face looks nice is not the best way to instruct beginners.Instead of buttering the front use that mud to butter the otherside.Every extra action will take its toll over the day.Overall though a thumbs up....much better than those d.i.y shows.

  • i wish i had become a proffesional brick layer ,,,its my fave hobby though

  • very nicely done boss! thanks for posting.

  • search for bricky wall building tool and click the one that says john doing his thing

  • 3:27 - he dont look too happy making this video... lol!!!

  • true about the war, even Winston Churchill was inspired by the brick men he met on his walkabouts, so much so that he took a quick course, and then in his spare time began to build walls in his garden in Kent, he became so obsessed with it he gave up his old hobby of water colour painting.

  • question.. how would you lay the brick down if the wall is not leveled?

  • @MrZiggy1979 HI MATE you would level it with the spirit level or if the brick is two low you wud put more of thatt thing

Hi mate i have a question for you wat is that brown thing is it cement ot wat

  • Very nice!! Thank you for posting this video. I wish this video series would have existed before I built my fireplace.

  • tap tap tap tap tap tap, typical yank, this is why English bricklayers are the worlds leading tradesmen. And btw whats all this about washing your work? English bricklayer NEVER have to wash their work.

  • @JTFLMUSTARD english brikies are pig s i saw alot of them lol

  • @JTFLMUSTARD bricklayer here in Canada, you can do better, tap tap tap, i here you man, just lay the fuckin` thing, but as far as that, what makes the british the worlds leading tradesmen? explain it it to me my friend? i would love to know

  • @retoryx we had all our cities flattened in world war two and rebuilt brick by brick, English and German bricklayers are the best in the world simply because the more in any industry you have to do the faster the skills and techniques develop and rebuilding every city in the country is a pretty big task i work with Englishmen every day and there have been a couple of not so good tradesman but the vast majority of them the work is unbelievably good same as the germans though they are slower

  • @JTFLMUSTARD you're a jackass! this is a video for non masons. oh english bricklayers suck

  • @evan5159 Do we?

  • why not get rid of the excess cement after you've done a full row? just askin and by the way nice brick laying

  • am sorry juhui91 but as a brickleyer. i feel bricklaying is an art. not anyone can do it. it takes skills. but what is with all the tapping. but you need to allways wash you work. it just looks better.

  • sorry as a bricklayer not brickleyer my bad

  • This guy is very good! I am a bricklayer and I really liked the video. But I do recommend that you use a smaller trowel you don't need one that big.

  • Very useful - I'm going to practice this...

  • This video was really helpful and very detailed! Thank you very much for uploading this info.

  • why all the tapping?.lay a lighter bed and push the brick home thus having to cut the snot once maybe twice and then you won´t have acid wash your work.

  • that isnt art its very easy

  • hey nice vid but how come you butter the bottom of the brick when your bed is there

  • your video has shown me what I have been doing wrong all these years. many thanks

  • wow i was a complete klutz trying to remortar 2 loose bricks today.. I've got a lot 2 learn but thanks for the vid

  • this guy is actually pretty good

  • @wandersonfcastro he isnt that great, he only butters half the brick which unless theres a cavity will make it a pig to joint up

  • thanks for this videos, i could learn something, and like you said, practice, practice n practice, i love this videos

  • Gawd there's so much judgement involved. It's not nuclear physics, but it's still very easy to do wrong!

  • Woody Wood Pecker your feet must be warm in that carpet of mortar.

  • To much tap tap to the brick the impact of the tap moves your under course!!

I was a bricklayer for 12yrs and instead of tapping the brick i positioned the brick by hand lot smoother and faster bcuz the last thing your forman wants is for you to hold up the line for big comp. Its all production

Not much about quality well make it look good with your jointer and your brush lol

  • Thanks a lot for the lesson I learned something

  • You can also use Block Spacers if you're not confident in keeping the 3/8" joint.

  • i dont understand yeah i aint being rude but, HOW THE FUCK IS THAT CALLED CLEAN BRICKWORK i jus left college like 2 or 3 months ago n i would actually be ashamed to say thats my work i aint being horrible though. the mortars the same colour as the bricks it just dont look right.

  • that string line is slap as my granmams pussy.

  • he aint buttering the otherside of the head of each brick, if the camera went round the other side there would be more gaps than swiss cheese. i could push that wall over when it's set because if the mistake he keeps making

  • I'm not a bricklayer, but is this done right, I have a dead body to get rid of and I've planned to put it behind a wall in the house, I need it to look right!

  • I've been a bricklayer and a union member for well over 30 years and I found this video fun to watch and good for an introductory lesson. I must say that for a quality job each brick head joint should be buttered as you pick it up, and on all surfaces before it's laid. Buttering the brick after it's laid does not completely fill the head joint, and often leads to cutting the line with the edge of the trowel. And too many motions will wear you out! Taptapscrapescrapetaptap.... You'll be tired!

  • your a verry good and clead bricklayer but even the best should take advice and i want to give you some and here it is if you push the mortar out to the front you leave v shapes in your bed i would advise you not to do this because if even the tiniest bit a water was to get into one of the capillirys that this method makes in the winter the water expands when frozen and weakens the brick work by cracking the mortar thanks

  • Really nice, good tips, lovely clean work, is their a reason you don't joint the back of the head joint.

    Thanks

  • Beautiful Job ... Great Screen Cast, Learn a lot, am ready to Repair Chimney and make some Money

    THANKS SO MUCH

  • you should not tap the brick .its manipulated with your hands and you should always fill your holes.

  • I like the video!

  • Excellent video, easy to follow - Thank you

  • Union Brick layer, you're exactly that . . .

How are ya gonna knock this guy, he's doing a fine job, all brickwork must be cleaned.

Also, he's got no gloves on, he does not want to be touching the brick too much or the mortar with his naked skin , it is fine to use the trowel, imagine what your hands would look like if you pressed all of those brick bt hand .

    Fine work . .

  • Real bricklayers dont tap the brick into place.

  • @OrgasmoTheGreat dam straight brotha

  • Your mortar is nice and plastic. Mine is never that plastic. Did you add a plasticizer?I'd like to know how you mixed the mortar. what do I use for a practice mortar. nice video.

  • @588158 it looks like a lime mortar,

  • im 15 but wanna be a bricky

  • He ain't that good, union bricklayers use their hand to press the brick down to the line not the trowel. Also he scrapes the hell out of the face of the brick that's a good way to make your wall need more cleaning.

  • excellent lesson !

  • set it and forget it

  • It's a good film, easy to follow and makes a lot of sense, especially keeping the excess mortar to joint the next brick, also the lext bed joint will fill most of the void left in the perp due to tip jointing, which is fine anyway, I always say, as long as there no light shining through, it must be good! Next bed will help anyway.

  • I LOVE MASONRY AND ME CAGO EN TI PUERCOTE

  • This dude is good. I'm a contractor, and he's the best I've seen.

  • Thanks for the video; very instructive. Please make some more videos.

  • Great video to explain how to lay plus possible missteps. I've never layed block and can't find anyone to do it! We are usually do-it-yourselfers...I guess we've got no choice but to learn this, too!

  • thanks alot this helps heaps

  • he appears to have a big package between his legs

  • I teach brickwork in school. Mix lime with sand. 1/4 It will set hard enough to obtain a realistic feel and look, and can be knocked down and used again and again. Many colleges do this. We use silver sand.
