  • seriously, it's "man e is a hell of a drug." that's why it's trippy in the video instead of children pooping from manna laxatives.

  • @jaimehutkin Crazy good lyrics eh

  • Oh my gosh. I heard this song while watching old episodes of Gossip Girl so I found it and I am now the owner of their entire cd. They are a spectacular band.

  • Manna (Hebrew: מָ‏ן‎) or Manna wa Salwa (Arabic: مَنّ‎, Kurdish: gezo, Persian: ترنجبين‎), sometimes or archaically spelled mana, is the name of an edible substance that God provided for the Israelites during their travels in the desert according to the Bible.

think about it, andy is very religious and within the context of the song...

  • @shadowbane01 This is the Manna i was referring to.

Manna is a plant. Its dried sap is used to make medicine.

People use the dried sap of manna as a laxative for constipation. They also use it as a stool softener to relieve pain during bowel movements caused by cracks around the anus (anal fissures), hemorrhoids, and rectal surgery.

    How does it work?

Manna contains the chemical mannitol, which might work as a laxative to help stool move through the intestine

  • Yesterday my boyfriend told me about a dream he'd had: we were married and I was pregnant and he died in a car accident. He said that he thought it was because of this song and we listened to it on the drive home from school and at almost exactly "I prayed for what I thought were angels, turned out to be ambulances" we passed an ambulance. It was eerie and sad and scary, the thought of losing him, but it reminded me how much I love him and how lost I would be without him. I love you, Scott <3

  • andy hull is a god. everyone else can kindly fuck off

  • @earzmundo except rachel mc adams

  • @SwordThe MasterKain

Manna was 'food' given to the Israelites by God...not a laxative.

  • i think these guys just became my new favorite band

  • Manna is a hell of a drug. Manna is a laxative for children. O:

Other than ewh, amazing song in my opinion.

  • @SwordTheMasterKain

I reckon Manna is certainty in this case tho.

--From a dead neck that needs to clean up his own mess.

  • @SwordTheMasterKain its "man, e is a hell of a drug" get it right

  • @gamer30003000 "Man' e?" And every other place as said it was "Manna." So maybe you should take it up with them.

@leadbelly2 'Manna' the drug is a laxative for children. It's not very commonly used if i'm not mistaken.

  • so, those people with the thumb down thought it meant "download", right?

  • LISTEN,SO YOU DONT HAVE TO HEAR.......YES KIDS THERES A MESSAGE HERE !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Once I realised the true meaning of this song, I sat here and cried my eyes out. I lost my best friend in a car crash. The lyrics are so passionate and full of a kind of emotion you only understand if you've been through it.

  • One Direction advert before a Manchester Orchestra song? Actually disgusted.

  • I think that he writes all these songs so that every person who listens to them can relate to them in their own way. Every song has its own special meaning to all of us.

  • I wish I could have every one of these songs explained to me by Andy.

  • OH MY GOD!! SEVEN PLATYPUSES JUST DISLIKED A MANCHESTER ORCHESTRA VIDEO!!! D: Nope Chuck Testa. .______.

  • For the last couple of years i've loved the song. Tonight, for the first time, i found this video........STUNNING.

  • I've never paid for any band, ever. I officially bought tickets for me, my wife, and my indian brother. This guy is God sent people. He's music gives proof that we won't be alone when times get harder and harder, look to god my brothers and sisters!

  • i get chills every time.

  • i dont get it

  • this is the most beautiful song ever written. its been 2 years since i've heard it and i still come back to it. always

  • Manchester Orchestra is the only music in the world that can supply me with tears of joy every single day.. no matter how many times i hear each song. I never want it to stop.. :')

  • For the few moments the song plays, this ultimate sadness passes through me and then its over and I press repeat. Such a beautiful song.

  • If I could only listen to one song for the rest of my life, this would be it. The most beautiful and complex song I've ever heard in my life. Nothing even comes close to this standard of perfection.

  • I have this cd and its in my stereo in my truck. I haven't changed it for like a month. Just amazing music!!!

  • this is one of those songs, where you keep listening, and can't get enough. Manchester Orchestra is an amazing band

  • This song is just so profoundly beautiful. Just can't stop listening to it.

  • Didn't know about Manchester Orchestra 'till a couple of weeks ago....they're becoming my favorite band of all time, slowly but surely, and thats pretty damn hard when it comes to me....damn, how did you do that?

  • simply beautiful.

  • Hooked<3

  • 4 hours 16 minutes on repeat, going strong.

  • manchester orchestra=best music videos

  • wow, goose bumps.

  • i wish this song lasted forever

  • This is the first Manchester Orchestra song I had ever heard.

  • @Mackenzieofcourse good thing it wasnt sleeper 1972 or else you'd be tearin hard.

  • @chibibaka Oh no, this is the first I remember hearing, I've been an Andy Hull obsesseser for a while now.

  • @Mackenzieofcourse the first of many i hope. :)

  • @Mackenzieofcourse mine too, its brilliant

  • What a depressing song...

  • soo beautiifulll

  • Just one word...Beautiful

  • it was a dream. they didn't ACTUALLY die.

  • i agree i play this song over and over

  • this makes me wish i was david casey

  • 5 people are feeling too cold today

  • there songs can be so sad, but so good.

  • xoxo Gossip girl <3

  • the big time rush commercial in the beginning totally kills the mood

  • @theemilyalbers I got some tiger commercial which adds a very strange atmosphere to the video...

  • @theironmitten17 alot of his songs are about his wife from the ablum Everything to Nothing, if you REALLY look at all of them, they all lead back to her and her death in the car crash and the baby...it's really sad :( but yes, the song is about some kind of death, probably his wife.

  • What does this song mean?

  • @goldfishgiggles is about a car crash with in which his pregnant girlfriend or wife died. i don't know if this really happened, but i'm pretty sure that's what it's about.

  • @alvids333 Oh my god, i knew the song but not the meaning and it fits, im about to cry you bastard.

  • AMAZING SONG!!!!

  • @7947chris A hot one is a bullet and its referring to himself commiting suicide after his pregnant wife died which was a dream.

  • @theironmitten17 No not even :P Everyone who thinks its about him dieing or anything of that matter is wrong. He explained it in this interview here: mygazines. com/issue/353/77 .

  • This band has the power to make me cry.

  • its about him killing himself. think about suicide through the song and pay close attention, it really makes sense. "The blood runs cold, it was sober, the feeling of audible cracks" meaning his skull. "I can feel a hot one." a "hot one" is a bullet.

  • @ABitStronger I heard it was about Andy Hull being in a car crash with his pregnant girlfriend. His girlfriend died in the car crash and killed the baby in the process.

  • I loooove singing this. It's so easy to mimic.

  • Goosebumps. Every time.

  • I'm going to be late to work, because I refuse not to finish every second of this song. It's absolutely perfect.

  • It was written about a dream that Andy Hull had, in which, he and his wife were in a car crash. In the dream, she was pregnant. The first part (from what i've heard anyway) is about him talking about his relationship with God, and a sort of overview of how he sees himself. The whole manna thing is just figurative language...

  • @AWriterofFictions thats simple math not this song

  • i can't play this song without crying

  • I thought a ''Hot One " was a lethal dose . Then he talks about the curtains around her neck. And how he thought he heard angels but it was ambulance sirens.

  • best song :")

  • I got out of bed at 1:50 to listen to this song

  • i listened to this song, went to order a calzone, drank some soda, sat down and started listening then went and grabbed my guitar so i could play the rest, knocked my ashtray over and said "fuck the ashtray, ill pick it up after the song is over."

  • It's amazing how artists like Manchester Orchestra and Death Cab for Cutie have lyrics that are hard to understand if you're not really listening, but when you finally understand what it is they're talking about, and I mean truly, you can't help but feel their pain. From what I got, they were arguing in the car and ended up crashing.

  • If you don't feel the slightest bit of sadness from hearing this song, you're not human.

  • @LongLiveTheGreats I couldn't agree more.

  • @LongLiveTheGreats wow. I felt it in the first 3 seconds

  • @LongLiveTheGreats I must be a alien then, this song makes me happy.

  • @LongLiveTheGreats

I may feel sad, but I absolutely love this song, and every time I heard it it makes me smile and I get happy. So what does that make me?

  • @Mauisplash An optimist. If you can find the beauty in a song and the emotions tied with it, and most disregard them as depressing and undesirable, then that's the definition of an optimist.

  • @LongLiveTheGreats

    your right, I am predator.

  • @LongLiveTheGreats i feel a swelling happiness actually

  • @LongLiveTheGreats Actually this makes me happier and apreciate life just a little bit more:)

  • @LongLiveTheGreats Lol its Funny how u think humans are emotional creatures yet we are the only species who kills our own for beneficial gains and kill other species for nothing but useless trival gains. (head hunters)

    Oh boy were so kind.

  • @cloud9981 get you're facts straight.

  • @kshasaurus haha you wrecked his shit.

  • @kshasaurus Get your grammar straight, bro.

  • @nelith999 hah!

  • manna is a hell of a drug

religion can be just as alluring and addicting as substances after a tragedy. Has there been any speculation as to whether it became a crutch or a source of hope in this case? Beautiful song, the depth is refreshing

  • @punkrocker202017 Manna means a gift from god correct? Well when he says "the lord showed me dreams of my daughter" that could of been the "manna"

  • @TheSkankasaurusrex . The story goes that God gave them "Manna" more than enough food to survive, but He required faith. If the led group took more food than they needed just for that day then the food would spoil...and they continued to take more than they needed. enough was never enough... though we dont actually know what Manna was in the bible they believe it was food... that spoiled.. theres a lot more to it but.. yeah :)

  • VEVO,

That "it gets better" section in the top right corner is a joke, right?

    ...Right?

  • ohmygosh. this song made me cry so much.

  • 4 people missed the point of life and love.

  • Wow.

  • Wow.

  • Wow.

  • mayonnaise is a hell of a drug...

  • Thats his wife who left him... he was so emotionally wrecked then they got back together and she died in a car crash when he was driving two days after they got remarried

  • why is the same girl in all of his music videos? im not sayin it as a bad thing. i acually kinda like it. its like a continueing story through all of the music videos. but really why? does she like mean something to him?

  • I still believe this song is referencing the birth of his daughter.

  • I'm crying.

  • I love this song so much... even though its made me cry every time I've listened to it.

  • @imdan1182

Wow, your comments are amazing, it's nice to see that people actually think about the lyrics and pay attention to the emotion and meaning of the song and it's also nice that songs can mean so much to someone. wow, thank you.

  • With one last ditch effort I pray to the Lord to save her, but it’s too late and the ambulances have come to take her away. But the Lord gives me a glimmer of hope by showing that our baby is inside of her. And although I am going to lose Amy, we will always have something together in the form of our daughter. At that moment that best thing I could say was… and i felt love again......thats what the songs about...sorry about posting this way...

  • @imdan1182

beautiful. i can look at the song in a different way now.

  • So I prayed for what I thought were angels

    Ended up being ambulances

And the Lord showed me dreams of my daughter

She was crying inside your stomach

  • And I realized it then, you were perfect

With my teeth ripping out of my head

And it looked like a painting I once knew

Back when my thoughts were not tire leak intact

Sometimes it’s too late to realize things you should have earlier, and at this moment, I’m looking at Amy and realizing that she is perfect as I’m amongst this disaster that is being played out on the road. I realized right then that all the things I was worried about didn’t matter.

  • Your blood was dry it was sober

    The feeling of audible cracks

And I could tell it was over

From the curtains that hung from your neck

In this dream, I’m driving Amy, my soon to be wife, back to her parents house in Birmingham, Alabama. We get side swiped by this tractor-trailer and the wreckage is where this verse starts. As she’s lying there, I can tell that she’s not going to make it and that this was the end.

  • I could feel my heart beat taking me down

And for the moment I would sleep alright

    Veiny with a selfish fear

To keep me up another restless night

    Another restless night

Being on the road is a gnarly trip and sometimes after like 12 hours of straight driving, you start losing it. Here is the beginning of me losing it. Just pulling my blanket over my head and crying and crying and eventually crying myself to sleep. That’s when the dream starts
