Half Broke Horses really is a wonderful book- I read it on the beach during vacation and I felt incredibly decadent given the fact Lily never seemed to take a day off in her entire life. I thought I worked hard all my life until I read this book-my life is so easy in comparison! I don't think I could survive the ranch life she describes so vividly.
The Main Street polygamist group was NOT a part of The Latter Day Saints! Our Church outlawed polygamy in 1904. The "uncle" was probably their leader because they had would have no connection with our Church in Salt Lake City. Utah women (thanks to Brigham Young) were the first in the nation given the right to vote. They were very well educated and outspoken pioneer women much like Lily.
Many polygamist groups claim to believe the Book of Mormon but that does not make them "Mormons".
The Glass Castle was an edge-of-your-seat book that definitely can't be put down!
I would stay up till about 4 reading it, and i'd have to force myself not to take it to school with me! but then at school, i kept thinking about the book "What happens NEXT?!" ...uff that book gave me chills! I gotta say, Jeannette's dad was understandable because of his alcoholism, but not her mother! can't wait for more captivation! I'm so excited for Half Broke Horses!
