I think this guy is ok, but Dick Clark is the best. The absolute worst was Donny Osmond.Dick Clark took the show very seriously and acted if the people won and if they got into the winner's circle and didn't win he'd try to give them clues to see if they could get the ones they missed. Also back then the celebrities were more down to earth. The seemed to be there to really help the contestants unlike the ones that came on the show when Donny Osmond hosted it.
@80smusicfanNO1 You mean like go back to the original board design of ten categories? For the tournament, that might've been interesting and instead of 6 in sixty seconds, make it ten in 90 seconds?
I am having a senior moment where I cant remember the name of the celebrity. I know her, I have watched her forever, but I am blanking on her name. Please help.
Well, I watched all 5 Davidson $100,000 wins and what I read on fan sites and/or message boards was right. The entire audience doesn't mob the floor like on the Clark version. How come that never ever happened on the Davidson version?
To answer your question, I think they put a stop to that after M.G. McCormack's win in 1987. If you watch the footage, the entire audience on the floor was a distraction. Dick couldn't even break in the crowd to get on camera and congratulate the winner. In all subsequent wins, only the winner's family showed up. I'm not 100% sure, but I think that had a lot to do with it.
I'm pretty sure it was Debbie Sepian's $100,000 victory that ended the whole "audience mob" thing. Dick sounded kinda pissed when he said "OKAY!" Like, he meant "ok, no more of this shit!" LOL.
I think there is some truth to what you are saying, but I think somewhere along the way Debbie was implying that most of them were with her. She had a lot of audience members when she won the $10,000 with Don Galloway the week before. There were audience members up there, but they were all with Debbie. But you are right overall; that was a huge mob of people so they could have limited the number of people who could come on stage after either M.G.'s or Debbie's win.
Does anyone notice the odd flashing pattern they used when they were going to commercial into the WC? That was the same odd flashing pattern they briefly used on the Dick Clark episodes of $100K Pyramid.
Although this version paled in comparison to the previous ones (because of John Davidson obviously), still, a $100K win on the last episode of the finale week was a good way for it to go out.
JD (IMO) was much better when he was hosting "Hollywood Squares" (1986-89) than he was on here. Whereas Dick Clark allowed the celeb/civvie enough time to celebrate, John Davidson ran up there the second the festivities started.
The reason why JD wasn't as good was b/c he lacked the sense of timing Dick Clark had when it came to big wins in the WC.
I know. And even Bill Cullen, when he hosted the weekly nighttime syndicated "Pyramid", made sure to wait until they were done celebrating before joining in on the celebration.
"Did we do it? Did we do it?" Fucking adorable.

Was this the fial episode of John Davidson's Pyramid?
tpir1972 10 months ago
I think John did the VERSION the way he wanted to, Ralph Edwards did the same to Bob Barker, letted him do the show there own way.
tpir1972 11 months ago
@tpir1972 It's true, every host does the show his/her own way.

Ironically, John didn't overstate the rules of the winner's circle....like he usually does.

He's the first man to win $100,000 since MG won it back in 1987.

@Sjsuman5000 i thought "Child Stars" would be a tough one, but apparently not for them.

@barber215 Child Stars is tricky I have to admit too. But FRAGILE and CIRCULATE are harder IMO.

This show is so easy, they should have added another part of the pyramid to make it a bit trickier to get to 100k

@DorvellTStewart The producers should have left Davidson on "Hollywood Squares".

Yeah, they did that almost every time someone won the tournament. Made the big win more fun IMHO. :)
