you could just reset the password for the user instead of make a new user. Thanks for showing how to troubleshoot the host name I had an IP just put 'localhost' in and it worked.
Great tutorial. Thorough and clear. But I still can't solve it. I have two database - one of which I am not clear ho0w it got there. Should I do the same for it too? I mean, the process outlined in your video?
Thanks! Up and running in short time. Now if I could figure out why between last night and this morning, while I was sleeping my database password became corrupted.
I've got this error on a Wordpress site using a MySQL DB on a remote server, nothing has changed with the credentials in the wp-config file, another Wordpress site using the same SQL server is working fine, any ideas?
Your video saved the day! It was the password that caused my problem so after trying out Einsteins definition of madness... Your tip to add another user to the database was the solution!
I had done a dns transfer to a different hosting by saving the blog to my hard drive but I forgot about the database with my all my content Grrrrrrrrrr
Now I have to find a way to transfer the database?

if the connection is working and it says connected but when u go to googe crome and search something and u get error is this the problem iam searching for
thanks for the video....i didn't realize that Godaddy doesn't use 'local_host' for wordpress, until seeing it scattered along the net and you finally nailing it down for me. thx.
Thanks for this useful tutorial but is it possible to have 0.00MB size while when i checked at my phpadmin database there is 19 structure in it. Whats the difference of MySql database with phpMyadmin database?
FWIW, I'm using Dreamhost, and while it appeared that everything did in fact match - - my database name, username, password, and hostname all appeared to be correct - - creating a new user and assigning that new user/password in the config file fixed my problem.
FYI ! ! ! 1and1 users, you can't use "localhost" as your DB_Host you have to change it to whatever it showed on your database setting (you need to log in to your 1and1 admin first)
I had been using my wordpress for about a week, but today something i got that "error" message, i look at the config file but everything was fine (I mean i have been using it for a few days) then i checked my database and notice both of the databases i had are gone and i can't make a new one, can anyone helo me?
Thanks for the videos, but I still have the same error. I double checked and am 100% sure that everything you mentioned in the videos is correct in my wp-config.php file. This error came out of the blue btw. The blog worked fine for more than 5-6 months and then all of a sudden it disappeared. I heard that it could have something to do with the htaccess file. Could you perhaps also make a video on that? Thanks, Robert
Then it most likely has something to do with your hosting environment...your host changed something. Best to contact them and see what they changed around the time you experienced the problem.
@kentuckyclassroom: Thanks for your advice! I contacted Hostgators Live Helpdesk and they solved the problem fast. They said that there was some code missing in one of the files, but unfortunately they could not tell me how it could've happened. And I have no idea either. Just glad it 's fixed now. Thanks again, Robert. PS. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
@DutchBlogger Odd. I have the same problem on a not-so important wordpress MU blog. All of a sudden I got this error and the login info is fine. Database is fine. I am also on Hostgator..
Thank you, very good help , simple and practical, before I found your video I spent more than an hour trying to fix this problem. After I saw your Great video, I solved the problrm while watching your video. Thank you again

Hi,
Thanks for the info. Only, I'm having this problem with the "enable multi-sites" plugin?
The root directory domain name where WordPress is installed works just fine but any sub-domain name I make only presents me with this error:
"Error Establishing a Database Connection"
I've looked at the config file and everything seems to be in order there especially sense I can access the root domain WordPress instillation.
Would you know how to fix this?
Thanks,
John
