i saw on the tv pantera special on VH1 that vince said for a while that dime would just pose in his mirror with his guitar before he learned it XD and i think vince said something like "are you planning to be a guitar model or a guitar player?" lol
you couln't be more right bro, i don't get it why pantera "denied" their glam metal years, they fucking rock! this is the best glam metal music i have heard and probably will hear, too bad that times like these are over
This is very reminiscent of Skid Row's Slave to the Grind album, which I always thought was the most worthwhile album of the glam metal era.
Phil Anselmo has a fantastic voice for this kind of music. And really, I always thought the way he mixed the falsetto in with his more aggressive sound on Cowboys From Hell was something special. I think dropping it was a mistake. A lot of people can growl angrily. Not many can hit the last note on Cemetary Gates. If you have a unique talent, use it.
Skid Rows Slave to the Grind...hmmm...good call. My favortie Skid Row album was Subhuman Race, which you can tell they were greatly influenced by Pantera on
@deelee74 well actually heres the thing, in all honesty...not many people CAN growl and scream the way phil did on albums like Far Beyond Driven. Most guys like the lead vocalis from Children of Bodom or Between the Buried and me do a really fake growl/scream. Listen closely and Phil is using his full voice and actually still hitting a lot of pitches with his screams. with that said I still agree with you. What he did on Cowboys was something very unique. Havent heard anyone else do that.
Oh, getting offended, are we? Just face it, the '80s wipe the floor with the '90s in every conceivable way. This album is so much better than Vulgar Display of Shitty Music it's not even funny.

Really nice music, I think Pantera in the period before 'Cowboys from Hell' also made great stuff

I think Pantera's only good stuff is in that period and in parts of Cowboys. Death to '90s groove metal!

this sounds like an obvious precursor to classic Pantera. I am still not convinced that Dime ever sucked at the guitar :D.
